Co-processing of bio-oil and petroleum-derived feed in a fluid catalytic cracking process of a refinery is considered to be one of the most potential bio-liquid fuel preparation technologies. The detailed qualitative and quantitative analysis of the oxygenates in the co-cracking products facilitates optimization of the subsequent processing. In this study, an in-depth characterization of trace oxygenates from home-made co-processing liquid products in a fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) pilot plant unit at different bio-oil water-soluble phase (BOWS)/vacuum gas oil (VGO) mass blending ratios (0/100, 10/90, 20/80) at different reaction temperature (500 and 525 °C) was performed with quantitative and qualitative comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC × GC–MS). An internal standard method with the internal standard 1,1,3,3-tetramethoxypropane was used to quantify trace oxygenates, which was selected from the qualitative analysis of the co-processing liquid products. The results showed that the contents of phenols and benzofurans in the liquid products from co-processing were low and the addition of BOWS was beneficial to improve the co-processing conversion, reduce the coke yield, but reduce the gas products and gasoline yield. The deoxygenation of catalytic cracking for oxygenates also weakened with the increase of bio-oil addition. The increase of reaction temperature can strengthen the deoxygenation of catalytic cracking, but the excessively high temperature can strengthen the thermal cracking reaction and reduce the gasoline yield.

Epoxides, a class of ethers with a three-membered ring structure, are widely used in the textile, pharmaceutical, and packaging industries. Chemoenzymatic epoxidation presents a promising method for synthesizing epoxides. However, its epoxidation efficiency is hindered by low chemoselective perhydrolysis, which is caused by the hydrolysis side reaction in the aqueous phase. In this study, a chemoenzymatic epoxidation process in the aqueous phase was developed by utilizing an acyltransferase from P. litoralis (PlAcT) for its chemoselective perhydrolysis. Crystal structure analysis, molecular dynamics simulations, and quantum mechanics calculations, along with site-specific mutagenesis, revealed that the selectivity of perhydrolysis is due to a lower energy barrier in the acyl transfer step compared to that in hydrolysis. Furthermore, the mutant PlAcTM3–2 exhibited a 7.6-fold improvement in solvent stability and a 1.3-fold increase in perhydrolysis activity compared to the wild type, achieved by reshaping interface interactions. As a result, the engineered strain Y07, harboring PlAcTM3–2, successfully synthesized compounds 3a–3n with conversions ranging from 11–99%, and the titers of compounds α-pinene oxide(3i), β-pinene oxide(3j), 3-carene oxide(3k), and limonene dioxide(3l–3) reached 55.8, 16.7, 75.2, and 21.4 g/L, respectively. These results demonstrate a sustainable method for chemoenzymatic epoxidation in the aqueous phase.

Unsaturated lipids play an essential role in life activities. Identifying and quantifying their carbon-carbon double bond (C C) isomers have become a hot topic in recent years. In lipidomics, the analysis of unsaturated lipids in complex biological samples usually requires high-throughput methods, which puts forward the requirements of rapid response and simple operation for identification. In this paper, we proposed a photoepoxidation strategy, which uses benzoin to open the double bonds of unsaturated lipids to form epoxides under ultraviolet light and aerobic conditions. Photoepoxidation is controlled by light and has a fast response. After 5 min, the derivatization yield can reach 80% with no side reaction products. Besides, the method has the advantages of high quantitation accuracy and a high yield of diagnostic ions. It was successfully applied to rapidly identify the double bond locations of various unsaturated lipids in both positive and negative ion modes, and to rapidly identify and quantitatively analyze the various isomers of unsaturated lipids in mouse tissue extract. So the method has the potential for large-scale analysis of unsaturated lipids in complex biological samples.

Catalytic fast co-pyrolysis of biomass and plastic is an effective method to achieve high-quality bio-oil production. In this work, (Ni)-MCM-41 catalysts with different Ni loadings were prepared and characterized in detail by using a variety of advanced analytical techniques, and the effects on the catalytic performance were analyzed by micropyrolysis with gas chromatography mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) and thermogravimetry-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (TG-FTIR) methods. The results showed that an appropriate amount of Ni addition can effectively modulate the physicochemical properties of MCM-41. For a Ni loading of 25.1 wt % (Cat-C), the catalyst showed an optimal catalytic performance, a decrease in the proportion of oxygenated compounds in the product from 35.6 (MCM-41) to 13.4%, and an increase in the relative total amount of olefins plus aromatics from 62.2 (MCM-41) to 84.6%. The excellent catalytic performance of Cat-C can be ascribed to a balancing of its proper physical structural properties, appropriate acidity, strong metal–carrier interaction, high metal dispersion, and excellent compatibility balance between active and acidic sites.
