The porous and tubular structure is conducive to improving performance of sensing materials. At present, how to obtain sensitive materials with unique porosity and high surface activity by green, low-cost and simple synthesis methods is still a challenge. In this work, novel In 2 O 3 porous microtubes were obtained by water etching of MIL-68-In and calcination methods for the first time. The as-prepared microtubes exhibit excellent NO 2 sensitivity at 50 ℃ (S=156–3 ppm NO 2 ), and the limit of detection is 50 ppb. The sensor also has good NO 2 detection ability in the actual environment. The excellent NO 2 sensing performance at low temperature is closely related to high surface activity of In 2 O 3 porous microtubes. Combined with TPD, in-stiu DRIFT and XPS technologies, the NO 2 sensing mechanism was detailed analyzed. This work provides useful guidance for constructing high performance NO 2 sensor. The excellent NO 2 sensing performance at low temperature makes a positive contribution to promoting the application of metal oxide sensors in environmental detection.

Bimetallic nickel-molybdenum nitride (NiMoN) catalysts have attracted great attention due to their remarkable similarity to group VIII noble metals in terms of electronic structure, good electron conductivity, and durability for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, the existing approaches for fabricating NiMoN catalysts usually entail a series of multiple steps and hazardous ammoniated ingredient. As a result, these methods are difficult to be scaled up for large-area fabrication towards industrial water splitting. Herein, a hierarchical composite NiMoN@Ni(OH) 2 @NF composite electrode with a sheet morphology was synthesized based on a rational combination of seawater etching and magnetron sputtering. This method is easily scalable for producing large-area electrodes with minimal pollution. The incorporation of Ni(OH) 2 @NF nanoarray carriers enhances the exposure of additional active sites on the NiMoN layer, thereby augmenting the electrochemically active specific surface area of the electrode. The as-synthesized NiMoN@Ni(OH) 2 @NF electrode demonstrates excellent HER activity, with an overpotential of 57 mV at 10 mA cm −2 , and exhibits remarkable long-term catalytic stability for over 100 h at a current density of 100 mA cm −2 .This study presents an eco-friendly and straightforward method for preparing large-scale transition metal nitride catalysts with high catalytic activity.

To address the inherent trade-off between mechanical strength and repair efficiency in conventional microcapsule-based self-healing technologies, this study presents an eggshell-inspired approach for fabricating high-load rigid porous microcapsules (HLRPMs) through subcritical water etching. By optimizing the subcritical water treatment parameters (OH− concentration: 0.031 mol/L, temperature: 240 °C, duration: 1.5 h), nanoscale through-holes were generated on hollow glass microspheres (shell thickness ∼ 700 nm). The subsequent gradient pressure infiltration of flaxseed oil enabled a record-high core content of 88.2%. Systematic investigations demonstrated that incorporating 3 wt% HLRPMs into epoxy resin composites preserved excellent dielectric properties (breakdown strength ≥ 30 kV/mm) and enhanced tensile strength by 7.52%. In addressing multimodal damage, the system achieved a 95.5% filling efficiency for mechanical scratches, a 97.0% reduction in frictional damage depth, and a 96.2% recovery of insulation following electrical treeing. This biomimetic microcapsule system concurrently improved self-healing capability and matrix performance, offering a promising strategy for the development of next-generation smart insulating materials.

Abstract Fossils are nonrenewable natural heritages formed by Mother Nature. After being excavated or exposed, fossils can be destroyed by weathering and water erosion. However, until now, there is very limited research work on fossil conservation. In this work, we focus on the protection of pterosaur fossils found in Hami, which are very sensitive to water. Four siloxane-based polymeric sols, including from tetraethyl orthosilicate and other three hybrid siloxane monomers, are prepared by controlled hydrolysis protocol. Their chemical and physical properties and performances as fossil protection materials are examined. Experimental data show that all sols have excellent permeabilities, decent reinforcement abilities, good resistance to light and heat aging. The organic moieties in the hybrids can also significantly increase the fossil’s hydrophobicity and reduce the cracking of the gels. The results indicate siloxane-based polymers can be very potential protection materials for fossils. And the hybrid polysiloxane sol containing epoxy function groups has overall the best performances.
Top left: severely degraded fossil due to water erosion, top right: structures of four sols Bottom: significantly improved fossil resistance to water after treated by silica sols, from left to right: treated by TEOS-TMPM-s, TEOS-TMPE-s, TEOS-BTME-s, TEOS-s and control sample.
