The negative reduction potential of gallium leads to the occurrence of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) during the process of gallium electrowinning. However, accurately measuring the partial current of the gallium electrodeposition reaction (GER) using the chronoamperometry (CA) test is not possible. To address this issue, a model capable of separating the partial current of the GER and HER from the total current was employed, and the CA curves were fitted at different potentials. This approach allowed the researchers to determine the relevant electrochemical parameters. The results indicated that the measured value of the current efficiency was in agreement with the fitted value, indicating the reliability of the model. The nondimensional forms of the partial contribution of GER were compared with the Scharifker–Hills model to determine the nucleation mechanism. The model showed that the GER transitions from instantaneous nucleation to progressive nucleation as the potential increases, which was further confirmed by the microscopic morphology at different electrodeposition times. In summary, this study offers a promising solution for accurately measuring the partial current of GER during gallium electrodeposition.

Aqueous batteries are facing big challenges in the context of low working voltages and energy density, which are dictated by the narrow electrochemical window of aqueous electrolytes and low specific capacities of traditional intercalation-type electrodes, even though they usually represent high safety, low cost, and simple maintenance. For the first time, this work demonstrates a record high-energy-density (1503 Wh kg −1 calculated from the cathode active material) aqueous battery system that derives from a novel electrolyte design to expand the electrochemical window of electrolyte to 3 V and two high-specific-capacity electrode reactions. An acid-alkaline dual electrolyte separated by an ion-selective membrane enables two dissolution/deposition electrode redox reactions of MnO 2 /Mn 2+ and Zn/Zn(OH) 4 2− with theoretical specific capacities of 616 and 820 mAh g −1 , respectively. The newly proposed Zn–Mn 2+ aqueous battery shows a high Coulombic efficiency of 98.4% and cycling stability of 97.5% of discharge capacity retention for 1500 cycles. Furthermore, in the flow battery based on Zn–Mn 2+ pairs, more excellent stability of 99.5% of discharge capacity retention for 6000 cycles is achieved due to greatly improved reversibility of the Zn anode. This work provides a new path for the development of novel aqueous batteries with high voltage and energy density.

Considering the intrinsic importance of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) as a biomarker in disease monitoring and as a mostly widely used biolabel for signal transmission in bioanalysis, the development of a new ALP assay method is highly pursued. Herein, a well-known ALP-catalyzed silver deposition reaction onto gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) was developed into a single-particle-collision-based electrochemical biosensor. ALP-catalyzed dephosphorylation of ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AA-P) resulted in ascorbic acid (AA), which in turn reduced the silver ion to form a silver nanoshell on the surface of Au NPs (Au@Ag NPs). The generated Au@Ag NPs could stochastically collide with the microelectrode to produce transient current spikes. The collision frequency and charge could concurrently indicate the amount of produced Au@Ag NPs and then the ALP activity. Thus, a new single-particle collision-based electrochemical biosensing platform for ALP was constructed. It operates homogeneously and does not require electrode modification, nanoparticle biofunctionalization, and washing and separation steps. It showed good detection sensitivity toward ALP activity with a quantification limit of 2 mU/mL in 10 μL. The background-free feature endows it with absolute selectivity. It could also be used for inhibitor screening and applied for the ALP assay in the serum. In addition, the proposed collision-based electrochemical strategy was developed for a new enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. With the human immunoglobulin G (IgG) as a model target, it could effortlessly evaluate 5 ng/mL analytes. It thus opens a new avenue toward the development of single-particle collision-based electrochemical biosensors for a wide range of applications in disease diagnosis and bioanalysis.

The fluidization quality significantly affects the mass transfer and the deposition reaction, which determine the uniformity of deposited TiO 2 thin films on fluorophlogopite particles. It was found that the effective addition ratio of nano-TiO 2 particles is above 0.2 wt% to realize fluidization of fluorophlogopite particles. The addition of nano-TiO 2 particles leads to competitive deposition between free TiO 2 particles and fluorophlogopite particles, which decreased the coating rate of TiO 2 on fluorophlogopite particle. Besides, the existence of free TiO 2 particles on pearlescent pigment particles decreases the glossiness. The gas-solid ratio primarily determines the number of the free TiO 2 particles on pearlescent pigment particles. It was summarized that the optimal value of addition ratio of nano-TiO 2 is 0.4 wt% with the gas-solid ratio of ∼0.05 m 3 kg −1 h −1 to enhance the fluidization quality on the one hand, and to reduce the free TiO 2 particles on the other hand.

In this work, a novel and ultrasensitive electrochemical biosensor was constructed for DNA detection based on functionalized gold clusters/graphene nanohybrids (AuNCs/GR nanobybrids) and exonuclease III (Exo III)-aided cascade target recycling. By utilizing the capacity of GR as universal template, different metal nanoclusters including AuNCs/GR nanobybrids and PtNCs/GR nanohybrids were synthesized through convenient ultrasonic method. Exo III-aided cascade recycling was initiated by target DNA, generating the final cleavage product (S2), which acted as a linkage between capture probe and the functionalized metal nanoclusters/GR conjugates in the construction of the biosensor. The AuNCs/GR-DNA-enzyme conjugates acted as interfaces of enzyme-catalyzed silver deposition reaction, achieving DNA detection ranging from 0.02 fM to 20 pM with a detection limit of 0.057 fM. In addition, PtNCs/GR-DNA conjugates presented peroxidase-like activity and the functionalized PtNCs/GR nanohybrids-based electrochemical biosensor also realized DNA detection by catalyzing the 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine-hydrogen peroxide (TMB-H 2 O 2 ) system to produce electrochemical signal. This metal clusters/GR-based multiple-amplified electrochemical biosensor provided an universal method for DNA detection.
