The amphipathic property of paper inhibits its applications in cake packaging. Herein, sodium alginate, calcium chloride, and cinnamaldehyde were mixed, and the process was precisely controlled to maintain homogenously aqueous coating solution. Sodium alginate and Ca 2+ chelation is helpful to the intermolecular hydrogen bonding, which improves oil resistance of the coated papers. Kit number of the coated papers were 12 at 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105 and 120 °C, and soybean oil resistance time was over 24 h. The coated papers exhibited good biocompatibility, and the bacterial inhibition zones reached 28 ( Escherichia coli ) and 34 mm ( Staphylococcus aureus ). Additionally, the mechanical property, air permeability, ultraviolet and high-energy blue light blocking, and antioxidative property were all improved. Cake preservation results showed that the coated paper inhibited oil penetration and bacterial proliferation. This biomass-based coated papers can be an alternative for grease food packaging.

Polysulfide adhesives are often subjected to breakage or even fracture caused by highly loaded vibrations and large deformations from the wing, limiting their practical use in aircraft fuel tanks. Inserting polyurethanes into liquid polysulfide systems is a viable approach to strengthening their mechanical properties and avoiding nonuniform dispersion of the curing agent. In this contribution, a series of sulfur-containing curing agents were prepared by liquid polysulfide and trimethylolpropane tris(3-mercapto propionate) (TMPMP) to minimize the effect of the polysulfide-urea (-NHCOS-) groups on water resistance. Subsequently, the two-component polysulfide adhesives were successfully synthesized via the prepolymerization method, and their chemical structure, mechanical properties, and solvent resistance were systematically evaluated. As expected, the large introduction of sulfur linkages and -NHCOS- groups provided excellent oil resistance and strong mechanical properties for polysulfide adhesives. Notably, Samples 2-4 exhibited the highest tensile strength of 1.11 ± 0.02 MPa, the greatest shear strength of 1.87 ± 0.04 MPa, and the best hardness of 81 ± 2 Shore A, with 122.0%, 523.3%, and 170.0% improvement over the control, respectively. Furthermore, the oil absorption rate of all samples was less than 3.0%, and their tensile strength remained almost unchanged after 30 days of immersion than before. We believe our paradigm can provide a valuable guideline for designing high-performance polysulfide adhesives.

Fluorosilicone rubber (FSR) has become an indispensable sealing material due to its exceptional adaptability to extreme temperatures and non-polar media environments. In this study, the influence of interfacial interactions and fluorine content in FSR composites on their mechanical properties and oil resistance was investigated. Three modified M5s (@M5) were firstly prepared by surface modification of fumed silica M5 using three fluorinated silane coupling agents with different chain lengths. Among them, though 13F@M5 and 17F@M5 exhibit weaker interfacial interactions with the FSR matrix, they exhibit remarkable hydrophobicity (water contact angle >142°) and dispersibility. Additionally, among the three @M5/FSR composites, 13F@M5/FSR and 17F@M5/FSR exhibit excellent tensile strength (>11.1 MPa) and elongation at break (>490 %), while 3F@M5/FSR shows superior oil resistance, with only a 5.1 % decrease in tensile strength after 48 h of immersion in IRM 901 at 150 °C. The analysis of the interfacial structures reveals that interfacial interactions play a decisive role in the oil resistance of FSR composites, whereas the fluorine content indirectly affects the oil resistance by preventing the oil molecules from immersing into the interphase. The present study not only provides a comprehensive understanding of interfacial interactions and the influence of fluorine content on the properties of FSR composites, but also offers valuable insights for the design of high-performance composite interfaces.

The blending of different elastomers can greatly broaden the application range of rubber materials. However, due to the poor compatibility between polar elastomers and non-polar elastomers, severe phase separation occurs during the blending process, which severely degrades their processing performance and mechanical properties. In this paper, we prepared SBR-P/XNBR blends by emulsion blending polar modified styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR-P) latex with carboxylated nitrile rubber (XNBR) latex. The effects of the blending ratios on the vulcanization behavior, mechanical strength, dynamic mechanical properties, and oil resistance of the rubber compounds were studied. Experimental results showed that the mechanical strength and oil resistance of the modified SBR-P/XNBR blends are significantly higher than the unmodified SBR and XNBR blends. The dynamic mechanical analysis curve results of the rubber compounds showed that SBR-P has good compatibility with XNBR. With the increasing addition of XNBR, the oil resistance of the rubber compounds improves, and the solvent adsorption is reduced by over 60%.This study proposes a solution for utilizing non-polar rubbers, which are typically not oil-resistant, in oily environments. The proposed solution enables the preparation of composites with excellent mechanical properties in such environments.

By structural design, a new type of highly functional ionic liquid (NHFIL) was synthesized by combining 1-vinylimidazole with tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate through a one-pot method. When it is melted into the polymer composite, the highly reactive vinyl of NHFIL promotes the cross-linking within the polymer system to enhance the compatibility between the inorganic filler and polymer matrix and further improve the mechanical properties of the composite, additionally, the N and P elements would generate non-flammable gas phase and carbonized layer during combustion, which endows the polymer composites with remarkable flame-retardant performance. On this basis, the low-smoke flame retardant ethylene–vinyl acetate (EVA)-based composites were prepared by introducing NHFIL into the industrial formula of the cable sheath material for maglev trains. The effects of the composition and molecular structure of NHIFL on the interfacial compatibility, microstructure, mechanical properties, and flame retardancy of composite materials have been studied in detail. The results indicate that with the addition of NHFIL, the cross-linking degree, gel content, thermal stability, mechanical properties, oil resistance, and the flame retardancy of the EVA-based composites were comprehensively improved. Significantly, with a low addition of 3.5% NHFIL, the gel content reaches 90.3%, the carbon residue reaches 42.7%, and the limiting oxygen index (LOI) reaches 36.3%, and surprisingly, the oil resistance increased by five times, which endows the composites with great application potential in cables of major transportation equipment.
