To achieve the goal of self-healing of marine concrete cracks and fixation of harmful ions invading the cracks, researches on the synergy of microbial mineralization and inorganic mineral hydration were carried out. The fixation effects of Cl − , SO 4 2− and OH − in simulated solution with different inorganic mineral dosages were tested by experiments. Further, the growth performances of microorganisms in the modified simulated solution were also tested. Finally, the self-healing effect of cracks in cement-based materials was experimentally verified. The results showed that the Cl − and SO 4 2− in the simulated solution can be effectively fixed by the double metal hydroxide , and combined with a part of H 2 O to form hydration products that accumulated in the deep region of the crack. A large amount of OH − were also consumed for the formation of double metal hydroxides, which greatly lowered the pH of the simulated solution. Thus, the chemical environment of the simulated solution became suitable for the growth of microorganisms, and the number of microorganisms in the solution increased significantly. Eventually, the hydration product and the mineralization product area were connected to form a superimposed repair zone, thereby expanding the repair scope. The test results could provide reference for concrete crack self-healing and anti-corrosion of buildings applied on marine environment.

Marine fouling on concrete has become one of the severest problems that damage the surface and even cause internal corrosion of marine concrete. Dissimilarly to the previous abuse of toxic antifoulants, developing hydrophobic waterborne antifouling materials could be regarded as one of the most environment-friendly and potential directions to protect marine concrete. However, the insufficient hydrophobicity, antifouling, and mechanical properties limit their application. Herein, we reported a series of hybrid coatings combining hyperbranched polyglycerol (HPG) decorated waterborne fluoro silicone polyurethane (H) and HPG-grafted graphene oxide (G-HPG) that improve the hydrophobicity, antifouling, and mechanical properties. The hybrid materials were modified by the hyperbranched polyglycerol synthesized based on the anionic-ring-opening reaction between glycerol and ethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol. Remarkably, the hydrophobicity (115.19°) and antifouling properties (BSA absorption of 2.33 μg/cm2andP. tricornutumattachment of 1.289 × 104CFU/cm2) of the materials could be developed by the modification of HPG with higher generation numbers and backbone molecular weights. Moreover, the mechanical properties negligibly decreased (tensile strength decreased from 11.29 MPa to 10.49 MPa, same pencil hardness and adhesion grade as H of 2H and grade 2). The results revealed that the HPG of higher generation numbers and backbone molecular weights could benefit materials with enhanced antifouling properties and hydrophobicity. The method of hyperbranched modification can be regarded as potentially effective in developing the durability and antifouling properties of marine antifouling materials. Keywords:hyperbranched polyglycerol;waterborne fluoro silicone polyurethane;graphene oxide;marine antifouling materials;marine concrete

Designing a stable superhydrophobic surface has been a current research focus. A functional bionic mineralized layer is introduced into the coating system to enhance the applicability. In the process of bionic mineralization induced by dopamine, silver ions were in situ reduced to nanosilver by dopamine in the interstices of mineralization products, forming a micro-nano composite structure by the mineralized grains and nanosilver microspheres. Then the superhydrophobic (CA = 153°) antibacterial coating was obtained by silane modification. The characterization of the coating shows that it can significantly improve the antibacterial effect, the mineralization layer and the silane molecular network can delay nanosilver loss. Furthermore, the superhydrophobic coating has extreme stability and its wettability hardly changes under abrasion, biological environment and freeze–thaw conditions, obtaining higher superhydrophobic, antibacterial and anti-icing performance. Considering the above properties, this novel superhydrophobic coating is anticipated to be a promising protective material which solves the corrosion, biofouling and freeze–thaw problems confronting marine concrete.

To overcome limitations of single-trigger self-healing systems, this study developed microcapsules (MCs) responsive to both mechanical stress and chloride ions for marine concrete repair. Ethyl cellulose/nano-silica shells encapsulating epoxy resin were synthesized via solvent evaporation method, with PbSO 4 embedded for chloride activation. MCs exhibited optimal size (70–120 μm), thermal stability (>190 °C), and homogeneous PbSO 4 distribution. Increasing PbSO 4 content enhanced chloride responsiveness, forming pores that released healing agent via osmotic pressure, while improving MC stiffness. Additionally, the self-healing mortars demonstrate notable strength recovery, with the highest healing rate of 126.30 % under standard curing and 114.50 % under seawater curing, reflecting the MCs' robust performance in aggressive environments. Cracks up to 229.7 μm width were effectively healed within 7 days, with healing efficiency positively correlating with PbSO 4 content. The porosity reduction rate rose with the increase in PbSO4 dosage, reducing porosity by 9.42 %–26.71 % post-healing. Additionally, MC significantly enhanced the chloride ion permeability resistance of self-healing mortars, achieving a reduction rate of 67.37 %–84.90 %. This d ual-trigger system provides targeted, efficient self-healing for marine concrete infrastructure, significantly enhancing durability.
