The curing formula is vital to the performance of epoxy resin impregnated paper (RIP) material. This work explored the effect of curing agents and accelerator contents on the thermal and electrical properties of RIP material. It was found that the RIP material cured with 1phr accelerator has the optimal glass transition temperature, electrical conductivity, dielectric loss and DC breakdown strength compared with RIP material cured by 0.5phr, 2phr, and 3phr accelerator. The RIP material cured with MEHHPA has better thermal and insulating properties compared with the RIP material cured with METHPA. The existence of the crepe paper amplifies the influence of accelerator and curing agent for the hydroxyl groups affect the curing process as well as the chain segment arrangement. This study provides the research support for the design of the curing formula for RIP insulation used in DC bushing.

Melamine-impregnated paper, a decorative material in furniture and interior design, could potentially impede the spread of indoor bacteria if it possesses antibacterial properties. Here, nano Ag-doped ZIF-8 (Ag@ZIF-8) was synthesized using ion exchange and in-situ chemical reduction strategies, followed by incorporating it into melamine-impregnated paper. The ion exchange mechanism of Zn 2+ and Ag + during ion exchange reactions was investigated. The structure of Ag@ZIF-8 was well-defined, with Ag nanoparticles evenly distributed on the surface of ZIF-8. Ag@ZIF-8 showed good thermal stability at 400 °C, meeting the requirements for the hot-pressing process of the melamine-impregnated paper. Ag@ZIF-8 exhibited enhanced ROS generation under visible light compare to ZIF-8, which was attributed to its reinforced light absorption and charge carrier separation facilitated by the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect. The antibacterial activity of Ag@ZIF-8 was better than ZIF-8, owing to the multiple-synergistic antibacterial mechanisms of the ion release and ROS generation. Specifically, the 10-Ag@ZIF-8 exhibited MIC of 128 μg/mL and 64 μg/mL against E. coli and S. aureus , respectively. The signal intensity of •O 2 − induced by 10-Ag@ZIF-8 was 4.38 times higher than that of ZIF-8. As the addition of Ag@ZIF-8 increased, the antibacterial performance of melamine-impregnated paper improved. Considering the antibacterial property and economy of melamine-impregnated paper, 0.20 wt% was the optimal amount for 10-Ag@ZIF-8 decorated blockboard. This study proposes a novel approach for synthesizing MOF-based melamine-impregnated paper with antibacterial properties, aiming to reduce bacterial spread, minimize disease risks, and contribute to lowering overall healthcare costs.

The development of melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin-impregnated paper has great significance in the decoration and construction industries. However, the MF-impregnated paper is prone to cracking and burning due to the inherent brittleness and poor flame retardancy of MF resin, restricting its wide application. Herein, we report a hyperbranched polysiloxane (HBPSi@EP) containing a flexible Si–O–C skeleton and tailored terminal epoxy using a simple, low-cost, and easily controlled ester exchange strategy to modify MF resin for fabricating high-performance and multifunctional impregnated paper. The break elongation of MF/HBPSi@EP impregnated paper increased by 186.5% since the energy dissipation of the hyperbranched structure and lubrication of the Si–O–C skeleton enhance its toughness. The tough MF/HBPSi@EP impregnated paper displayed outstanding cracking resistance during the thermal–cooling cycle. Meanwhile, the tensile strength of MF/HBPSi@EP impregnated paper reached 10 MPa, owing to the formation of a dense cross-linked structure by the hyperbranched epoxy in the HBPSi@EP. Notably, this impregnated paper exhibited good flame retardancy (B1-level in GB 8624-2012), cigarette burn resistance (Level 4 in GB/T 17657-2013), and wear resistance (1305.5 r). This facile and effective strategy can promote the development of tough, strong, and versatile coatings, film materials, and multifunctional composites.

Epoxy resin-impregnated insulation paper (RIP) composites are used as the inner insulation of dry condenser bushing in the ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) power transmission system. To improve the dielectric properties of RIP, nano-SiO2is added to the insulation paper at concentrations of 0–4wt % before impregnation with pure epoxy resin. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy observations as well as the typical dielectric properties of relative permittivity, DC volume conductivity, DC breakdown strength, and thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC), were obtained. The effects of trap parameters on the breakdown field strength and volume conductivity were investigated. The DC breakdown electric field strength of the sample increased as the trap level increased. The maximum DC breakdown strength of nano-SiO2-modified RIP was increased by 10.6% the nano-SiO2content of 2 wt %. The relative permittivity and DC volume conductivity were first decreased and then increased with increasing nano-SiO2content. These changes occurred near the interfaces between nano-SiO2and RIP. The increased DC breakdown strength was mainly attributed to the increased trap level. Keywords:dry bushing;epoxy resin-impregnated paper;dielectric characteristics;thermally stimulated depolarization current;nanocomposite

Three-dimensional paper-based microfluidic devices have great potential in various applications, including point-of-care diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and tissue engineering. However, their fabrication is still limited to stacking and origami methods, in which auxiliary equipment is needed to maintain the layers in tightly connected junctions. Inspired by the art of bamboo braiding in China, we developed a novel fabrication technique based on the braiding concept to create three-dimensional paper-based microfluidic devices with PDMS-impregnated paper substrates as the building units. The resulting three-dimensional paper device brings unique advantages, including compactness, facile disassembly, and real-time flow visualization. The multiplexed glucose analysis with a braided device integrated with 16-switchable valves for flow control was further fabricated to demonstrate the device's applicability. We envision braiding-based fabrication technology opening new possibilities and bringing broad applications for three-dimensional paper microfluidic devices.
