The dynamics of droplet adsorption at the liquid-liquid interface of parallel flow in a microchannel is investigated. The adsorption process is divided into three distinct stages: the liquid bridge expansion stage, the rapid deformation stage and the spreading stage. The dynamic behavior of droplet adsorption is elucidated by quantitatively analyzing the evolution of adsorption length and droplet height over time under different droplet viscosities. This experiment makes a positive contribution to further reveal the droplet adsorption mechanism and expand the application prospect of microfluidic technology.
Nanofluid droplets have considerable applications in industry. In this study, the coalescence dynamics of nanofluid droplets in an expansion chamber structure microchannel were visually investigated; the shape and liquid bridge evolutions of droplets were studied systematically. Five droplet coalescence flow patterns were observed: non-contact, double coalescence, cascade coalescence, compact slug flow, and jetting flow regimes. Due to the adsorption of nanoparticles on the fluid interface, a solidified layer is formed, which restrains the curvature change of the liquid bridge, slowing down the shrinkage of the liquid bridge. The evolution of the liquid bridge neck width with time could be divided into two stages: the dispersed phase control stage and the continuous phase control stage. The nanoparticles could affect markedly the dispersed phase control stage, while having less effect on the continuous control stage.

Covalently immobilizing the active sites or ligands on a polymer surface is an efficient strategy to achieve a full use of expensive organic parts. In this work, 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) was anchored onto polystyrene beads through an ether bond or an ionic liquid bridge. We quantitatively compared their thermal stabilities at nitrogen atmosphere and their chemical stabilities in a biphasic oxidation surrounding. It was found that the ionic liquid-bridged TEMPO exhibited an additional advantage of stability and could be reused for 30 consecutive recycles with a conversion ratio above 90% without any significant loss under the condition of the Montanari oxidation system (NaClO/NaBr, CH 2 Cl 2 /water), and the overall reaction time exceeded 2700 min.
