Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has been considered a high sensitivity, specificity, and ultra-fast analytical technique in molecular fingerprint recognition. Herein, a kind of sandwich Au/“star-like” mesoporous SiO 2 /Ag (Au/MSiO 2 /Ag) hybrid nanostructure was developed by implementing the electrostatic adsorption and magnetron sputtering technology for SERS application. In the experiment, the decoration density of the MSiO 2 /Ag nanostructure was conveniently adjusted through tuning the washing times of the silicon wafer in ethanol. The prepared substrate with the optimal geometry structure exhibited an enhancement factor (EF) of 9.2 × 10 5 , a limit of detection (LOD) of 5 × 10 −5 M, and a low relative standard deviation value of 5.02%. In the end, the obtained hybrid SERS substrate was used to detect nitrofurazone and an excellent LOD of 1 ppm was achieved. Overall, our novel sandwich Au/MSiO 2 /Ag hybrid SERS substrate provides a rapid and accurate way of monitoring ultra-low trace antibiotics, which can significantly promote food safety.

Surface-enhanced Raman detection of thiram is demonstrated by using Ag-nanoparticles (Ag NPs) on Au film over nanosphere (AuFON) substrate as the hybrid substrate. The SERS signal of the Ag NPs attached to solid supports is studied. The close coupling together of thousands of Ag NPs on AuFON leads to the generation of hot spots for SERS. The Ag NPs on AuFON can be applied to detect rhodamine-6G (R6G) with the detection limitation of 10−11M and the pesticide thiram in acetone with a detection limit of as low as 0.24 ppm, which is much lower than the maximal residue limit (MRL) of 7 ppm in fruit prescribed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The hybrid substrates are shown to be highly sensitive for the detection of thriam, which produce highly enhanced Raman signals with good uniformity and reproducibility due to having plenty of hot spots on its surface. Keywords:SERS;Ag NPs;Au film over nanosphere;hybrid substrate;trace chemical detection

Pesticides and additives, extensively used in the raw agriculture samples and processed food, have attracted tremendous interests owing to their latent menace to the surroundings and human health. Herein, a rationally designed multifunctional polymethyl methacrylate-silver/graphite-like carbon nitride/silver (PMMA–Ag/g-C3N4/Ag) hybrid substrate with plasmonic-enhanced intrinsic Raman signals was exploited and served as a recyclable and quantitative surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor. Especially, the as-prepared flexible substrate with an electromagnetic enhancement factor of 1.64 × 106 could realize the sensitive monitoring and in-situ degradation of thiabendazole (TBZ) and carmine acid (CA) on apple or in applesauce with limits of detection as low as 2.29 × 10–6 and 6.76 × 10–5 mg/mL. Furthermore, heightened linear correlations with coefficients of 0.996 and 0.997 were accurately acquired using the film peak of PMMA as an internal standard. It was proved that the proposed sophisticated substrate may present attractive superior-in-practice multiplexed quantitative monitoring and facile decomposing of harmful molecules. The resulting recovery values distributed from 60.9 to 126% for the deeply processed foods that were decorated by 10–4 to 1 mg/mL CA together with TBZ.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a powerful fingerprint spectroscopic technique capable of detecting trace molecules, which finds extensive application potential in diverse fields. The SERS substrates with excellent Raman signal enhancement, scalability in large-scale fabrication, and long-term stability is of significant scientific interest and practical value. Herein, we report a hybrid SERS substrate, namely tip-Si@MoSxOy, which integrates a periodic tip-patterned Si metasurface with MoSxOy semiconductor nanostructures, to develop novel noble-metal-free SERS substrate with sensitive molecule detection performance. The engineered periodic Si metasurface enables broadband matrix resonance by coupling with incident light, significanlty amplifying the localized near-field intensity at the inter-element nanogap regions. Theoretical calculations show that the maximum E-field enhancement can be up to 511 times. Meanwhile, the MoSxOy semiconductor leads to modification of the the polarization of probe molecules due to the charge-transfer interactions enabling chemical mechanism SERS effect. These combined effects make the detection of rhodamine 6G (R6G) at concentrations as low as 10-9 M and enhancement factor as high as 107. Moreover, the hybrid substrate exhibits superior antioxidation properties, eliminating the requirement of inert storage environments necessary for traditional noble-metal-based SERS substrates. Also, the MoSxOy semiconductor nanosructures are covalently bonded to the metasurface, ensuring structural stability without the need for post-transfer processes. Therefore, our work provides a novel approach to develop hybrid substrates with improved SERS performance, which is readily achievable and is expected to attract more research enthusiasm in the future.

Owing to its ultranarrow spectral line width, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) as a specific fingerprint identification technology has exhibited its distinctive talent in the multiplexed assay of illegal food additives. Herein, a three-dimensional (3D) hybrid SERS substrate was constructed by utilizing polystyrene (PS) nanospheres as template matrix, silver as active interlayer, and graphene oxide (GO) as coating surface to enable the effective monitoring of mixed melamine and dicyandiamide in dairy food without interference. Through amalgamating the significant electromagnetic effect triggered by the PS-mediated 3D architectures with the chemical enhancement and molecule-enrichment abilities of GO, the proposed substrate exhibited a highly sensitive detection characteristics with reliable reproducibility, facilitating a limit of detection low to 2.8 × 10 −8 M for 2-naphthalenethiol. After the further establishment of standard calibration lines, the feasibility of the proposed sensitive substrate in the multivariate monitoring of melamine and dicyandiamide was verified in milk as well as yogurt, achieving moderate recovery rates higher than 75%. This work proposed a facile strategy to construct 3D hybrid SERS substrate, which might show great promise to secure food security.
