Adsorbable organic halogen (AOX) is mainly produced by the reaction of residual lignin and chlorinated bleaching agents during bleaching processes. The formation of AOX can be reduced via optimization, addition of chemical additives, and/or pretreatment processes. Only a few studies
exist on the effective purification of chlorine dioxide solutions and its effect on AOX reduction. In this paper, the effects of the extraction pressure, temperature, pH, and extraction time on the chlorine gas removal rate (CR) were evaluated. In addition, a response surface model was established
to optimize the chlorine gas removal. The temperature of chlorine gas separation was optimized at 39.85 °C, with a separation pressure of –51.20 kPa and solution pH of 1.94, providing an estimated CR of 70.93% under the optimum separation conditions. Chlorine dioxide solutions with
and without chlorine gas removal were used for pulp bleaching. AOX formation was reduced by 69.57% at the same 2.0% chlorine dioxide dosage, while the pulp brightness decreased by 3.0%ISO. In addition, AOX formation was reduced by 27.90% at the same bleached pulp brightness (80.00%ISO). The
results provide theoretical support for the production of high-purity chlorine dioxide solutions and the development of clean pulping and papermaking processes.
Lignocellulose, as a kind of abundant natural resource, continuously developed to convert high value-added biological products is of great significance. Herein, we report a N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO) solvent system to completely dissolve unbleached pulp to prepare a renewable lignin-containing cellulose film. The viscosity of the completely dissolved cellulose solution was measured using a high-pressure rotary rheometer. The shear viscosity exceeded 85 Pa·s at a shear rate of 1.62 s −1 . It exhibited shear-thinning non-Newtonian fluid behavior with increasing shear rate. CF-WS had excellent tensile strength (>73 MPa), and exhibited unique optical properties of high transmittance in the visible region and high shielding performance in the ultraviolet region. When the thickness is only 0.016 mm, the UV shielding rate exceeds 75 % (λ < 380 nm). The structure of the bioplastic was revealed by SEM, XPS , and Raman spectroscopy . Directly dissolving lignocellulose in NMMO aqueous solution is expected to yield bioplastics with high strength and biodegradability . It is a potential substitute for petrochemical plastics and provides a possible way for the utilization of agricultural waste.
There is a challenge to find an effective and eco-friendly method to achieve the modification of fibers. The effect of laccase-TEMPO system on the properties of the bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp was investigated in this work. The results were demonstrated by the decreases in curl values and kink index. In addition, carboxyl and aldehyde groups were introduced in this reaction system. Compared with initial pulp, the contents of aldehyde and carboxyl groups of the treated pulp were increased from 42.6 μmol/g, 8.4 μmol/g to 125.4 μmol/g, 26.3 μmol/g respectively. However, the treatment had a detrimental effect on the thermal stability of pulp fibers. Moreover, the crystallinity index was slightly increased (from 82.1 % to 83.8 %) after the TEMPO-mediated oxidation, but the native crystalline structure was nearly unchanged. Furthermore, after the oxidation treatment, the relatively smooth film surface became textured, the carbon and oxygen bonds were changed, which were investigated by scanning electron microscope and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
