The preparation of most high-performance perovskite optoelectronic devices usually relies on costly inert or vacuum conditions to circumvent the inimical effects of moisture, which could lead to inferior crystallization processes and nonuniform morphology. Hence, it is imperative to develop a reliable and cost-effective approach to deposit a high-quality perovskite in ambient air. Herein, we investigated the influence of tert-butanol (TBA), sec-butanol (SBA), and isobutanol (IBA) on the nucleation mechanism in ambient atmosphere. It was found that TBA as an eco-friendly anti-solvent leads to the formation of uniform, smooth, pinhole-free, mirror-like perovskite films with enhanced optoelectronic properties compared with other solvents. More excitingly, perovskite photodetectors fabricated using TBA exhibited an excellent photoresponsivity of 1.93 A W−1, which is among the highest values reported for the same device structure and also demonstrates the distinctive advantages of our nucleation management strategy. This work sheds light on developing high-performance perovskite photodetectors using eco-friendly solutions in ambient environment.

Graphical In this work , incorporating donor-acceptor structured AIE molecule (TPE-TCF) into the perovskite precursor solution can improve the morphology of perovskite film and suppress nonradiative carrier recombination, leading to perovskite solar cells with reduced trap density and negligible hysteresis. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of TPE-TCF-treated PSCs achieved a remarkably enhanced from 15.63 to 19.66 % with high charge transport and defects passivation under air condition without a glovebox. The intrinsic defects in perovskite film can serve as non-radiative recombination center to limit the performance and stability of metal halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The additive engineering in perovskite film is always applied to produce high-efficiency PSCs in recent years. Here, a typical donor-acceptor (D−A) structured aggregation-induced emission (AIE) molecule tetraphenylethene-2-dicyano-methylene-3-cyano-4,5,5-trimethyl-2,5-dihydrofuran (TPE-TCF) was introduced into perovskite film. The D−A structure of TPE-TCF molecule provided additional charge transfer channels, contributing to transporting electron of TPE-TCF-based device. The cyano (C≡N) of TPE-TCF can interact with the uncoordinated Pb to from a relatively stable intermediate, PbI 2 ⋅TPE-TCF, resulting in the slower crystal growth, reduced the defects at the grain boundaries and suppressed carrier recombination. As a consequence, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of TPE-TCF-modified PSCs achieved a remarkably enhanced from 15.63 to 19.66 % with negligible hysteresis, which was prominent in methylammonium lead iodide-based devices fabricated under ambient condition. Furthermore, the PSCs modified by AIE molecule possessed an outstanding stability and maintain about 86 % of the initial PCE after 300 h storage in air at 25–35 °C with a high relative humidity (RH) of ≈85 %. This work suggests that incorporating AIE molecule into perovskite is a promising strategy for facilitating high-performance PSCs commercialization in ambient environment without glovebox.

The interfacial modifications between perovskite and charge-transport layers can arise from strong chemisorption bonds or weak physical adsorption interactions. However, modifications based on physical adsorption are susceptible to detachment, which not only disrupts the original energy level alignment and defect passivation but also introduces new charge recombination centers. Here, we report a fully chemical modification strategy in which the interfacial modifiers undergo an in situ crosslinking-like reaction, forming a localized, chemically bonded layer that seamlessly extends from the bulk of the underlying transport layer to the interface. Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) fabricated with this fully chemical modification strategy achieve a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 25.52% (certified 25.49%) under standard conditions, representing one of the highest PCEs reported for devices fully fabricated in an ambient atmosphere. In terms of static stability, unencapsulated devices exhibit linear extrapolated T 80 lifetimes of 27,000 h during dark shelf storage and 19,000 h under thermal stress at 85 °C, both of which are record-breaking values for dark shelf and thermal stability, respectively. For dynamic stability, the devices maintain a linear extrapolated T 80 lifetime of 2,600 h under light-dark cycling, representing the most dynamically stable PSCs reported to date.
