The spheroidization of explosives with micro/nano hierarchical structure is a feasible and efficient way to meet the requirements of energy and safety. In order to achieve the expectation, a microfluidic strategy consisting of a spheroidization model and verification experiments was proposed. The model states a possible spheroidization process and three spheroidization types by theoretical analysis. Furthermore, a continuous microfluidic platform was established for the verification experiments, which is consisting of a combinatorial microfluidic module and a spray-drying module. Here we used HNS (2,2′,4,4′,6,6′hexanitrostilbene) to verify the applicability of the strategy. The spheroidization process was verified by deconstructing HNS microspheres and adjusting the internal-outside pressure at the microscale . The spheroidization types were verified by tuning flow rate ratios of the solvent and antisolvent. It was found that the model is quite applicable for the spheroidization of micro/nano hierarchical structure by microfluidics. According to the detonation test, it was found the HNS microspheres have similar firing sensitivity to nano HNS under short-pulse shock wave, which means the better fluidity and higher bulk density can be realized while retaining the firing sensitivity. This study demonstrates an efficient, safe strategy to realize the high-quality spheroidization and continuous preparation of explosives with micro/nano hierarchical structure.

Powder preparation is the key step in producing laser cladding coatings with desired properties. In this paper, quaternary TiO 2 -B 4 C-C-Cu composite powder with high sphericity and good densification has been successfully prepared by a powder fabrication process combining spray granulation with densification sintering. The effects of slurry characteristics, spray granulation process parameters, and densification sintering temperature on particle morphology and performance were studied. The formation mechanism of quaternary spherical TiO 2 -B 4 C-C-Cu composite powder was revealed by analyzing the process of heat transfer and water transfer in the droplets, and the optimization direction of the powder preparation was indicated. The optimized process parameters for the quaternary spherical TiO 2 -B 4 C-C-Cu composite powder are: slurry solid content of 52 wt%, dispersant content of 1.25 wt%, binder content of 2 wt%, inlet temperature of 180 °C, the airflow rate of 310 L/h, slurry feed rate of 4.5 ml/min, and the two-stage temperatures of densification sintering are 500 ℃ and 900 ℃ for 1 h, in turn. Under the optimized process, the fluidity of the powder reaches 112 s/50 g, the apparent density reaches 1.2 g/ml, and more than 70% of the particles are between 15–53 µm. The powder has been verified by laser cladding to prepare in-situ synthesized TiB 2 -TiC-Cu composite coatings , which could have a better prospect for potential application.

Bimetallic oxygen carriers hold great promise for CH 4 chemical looping reforming at 500–700 °C. Current research focuses on material optimization of lab-scale powders. However, industrial use requires mass production, shaping, and calcination—causing performance shifts from lab samples. Therefore, this study explored how beads-shaping and calcination affect a 10-kg-scale Fe–Ni oxygen carrier. Compared to powder, spheronized beads increased H 2 generation in reduction stage. Calcination at 1300 °C produced 2.5-time stronger beads than 1200 °C. Both calcined beads had 10-15 percentage points lower CH 4 conversion at 550–600 °C, recovering to >92 % at 650 °C. The calcined beads produced 0.4–0.6 more H 2 from per CH 4 , though requiring more oxygen carrier input. Microscopical reasons to performance change were the shifts in reaction pathway and the forming of Fe–Ni–Al spinel. Macroscopical reasons were the oxygen release influenced by topology change. This work identifies key shaping and calcination parameters critical for oxygen carrier commercialization.

Solidification of self-microemulsifying drug delivery systems (SMEDDS) is one of the major trends to promote the transformation of self-microemulsion technology into industrialization. Here, a preliminary curcumin SMEDDS formulation was constructed to improve the druggability of curcumin, through the determination of equilibrium solubility determination, self-emulsifying grading assessment, and pseudo-ternary phase diagrams drafting. Furthermore, the optimal curcumin SMEDDS formulation consisted of 10% Ethyl oleate, 57.82% Cremophor RH 40, and 32.18% Transcutol P was obtained by the simplex lattice design. Besides, curcumin solid self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (S-SMEDDS) was developed by the extrusion and spheronization process to achieve the solidification of SMEDDS. The formulation of curcumin S-SMEDDS pellets was screened by the single factor experiment and the process parameters were investigated using the orthogonal optimization method. Subsequently, curcumin S-SMEDDS pellets were evaluated by apparent morphology characterization, redispersibility study, drug release behavior, and pharmacokinetic evaluation. Results from the pharmacokinetic study in rabbits showed that the AUC0–τ of the curcumin S-SMEDDS pellets and curcumin suspension were 5.91 ± 0.28 µg/mL·h and 2.05 ± 0.04 µg/mL·h, while the relative bioavailability was 289.30%. These studies demonstrated that S-SMEDDS pellets can be a promising strategy for curcumin industrialized outputs.
