Enabling the drug delivery systems with drug release monitoring function is of essential importance to enhance therapeutic effectiveness. Herein, we took a ship-in-a-bottle synthesis strategy to construct the upconversion nanocrystal and zeolite compounded drug delivery system with real-time monitoring function, by using desilicated ZSM-5 zeolite as drug carrier and NaYF 4 : Yb 3+ /Tm 3+ nanocrystal as luminescent probe. Benefiting from the enlarged mesoporous in desilicated ZSM-5, the NaYF 4 : Yb 3+ /Tm 3+ nanocrystals can be successfully loaded inside and the upconversion emission intensity of Tm 3+ under 980 nm excitation was one order of magnitude enhanced after mild heat treatment. The drug release monitoring function were studied by using doxorubicin as model drug, the experimental results indicated that the upconversion emission intensity ratio of I 802nm /I 475nm can accurately evaluate drug release percentage. Further in vitro cytotoxicity evaluation suggested the doxorubicin-loaded [email protected] /DS/HT has excellent biocompatibility and is able to inhibit tumor cells effectively.

“Ship-in-bottle” strategy used for encapsulating small metal clusters into metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has been well established in the past decades, whereas immobilizing shape-controllable metal nanocrystals’ (MNCs) which was expected to show “shape effects” in catalysis remains as a challenging work. Herein, by the new developed pore-expanding pattern of digging holes in the central of MOFs crystals to create mesopores-concentrated structure, a successful metal nanocrystal shapes manipulation (cubes, rods, triangular bipyramids, icosahedrons, truncated octahedrons, and concave cubes) in the cavities was accomplished. Meanwhile, the tight relations among MOFs internal space types, sizes, and the reduced MNCs’ location and shape evolutions in the encapsulation process were revealed for the first time. In catalyzing the reaction of hydrogenation of o-chloronitrobenzene to produce o-chloroaniline, the as-prepared shape-controllable MNCs@MOFs exhibited excellent synergistic effects on both raw materials conversion and byproducts inhabitation efficiencies.
Novel heterogeneous tungsten species in mesoporous silica SBA-16 catalysts based on ship-in-a-bottle methodology are originally reported for oxidizing cyclopentene (CPE) to glutaric acid (GAC) using hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ). For all W-SBA-16 catalysts, isolated tungsten species and octahedrally coordinated tungsten oxide species are observed while WO 3 crystallites are detected for the W-SBA-16 catalysts with Si/ W = 5, 10, and 20. The specific surface areas and the corresponding total pore volumes decrease significantly as increasing amounts of tungsten incorporated into the pores of SBA-16. Using tungsten-substituted mesoporous SBA-16 heterogeneous catalysts, high yield of GAC (55%) is achieved with low tungsten loading (for Si/W = 30, ~13 wt%) for oxidation of CPE. The W-SBA-16 catalysts with Si/W = 30 can be reused five times without dramatic deactivation. In fact, low catalytic activity provided by bulk WO 3 implies that the highly distributed tungsten species in SBA-16 and the steric confinement effect of SBA-16 are key elements for the outstanding catalytic performance.
