Dynamic wound care presents significant challenges for conventional dressings due to the complex environment and high-frequency motion associated with such injuries. In this study, a multifunctional photo-crosslinked piezoelectric hydrogel (OAPS) is developed, incorporating heterojunction Se-doped KH570 modified BaTiO 3 nanoparticles (Se-BT570 NPs) as a core component, and designed to address antimicrobial and monitoring needs in wound care, particularly at sites with high-frequency movement. The OAPS hydrogel effectively utilizes the inherent high-frequency motion in dynamic wounds, enhancing antimicrobial efficacy and enabling real-time monitoring of wound and human health statuses. This is achieved through the synergistic effects of piezoelectric properties and nano-heterostructures that enable self-driven charge transfer. Such integration allows for dual applications in both diagnosis and treatment. Experimental results demonstrated that the OAPS hydrogel exhibits excellent mechanical strength and adhesive properties, effectively adapting to high-frequency motion. Additionally, the hydrogel can be activated by dynamic wound environments to perform antimicrobial and wound monitoring functions, significantly accelerating the healing of dynamic wounds, with an efficacy rate of 99.75%. This study highlights the potential of piezoelectric nanomaterials in dynamic wound healing, offering a promising strategy for managing complex, dynamic wound care.

Bioprotective materials with bactericidal activity could largely protect healthcare workers from being infected by emerging infectious diseases; however, creating such materials has turned out to be extremely challenging. Here, we fabricate a novel polysulfonamide (PSA) N-halamine electrospun nanofibrous membrane with rechargeable and rapid bactericidal properties by a Lewis acid-assisted chlorination process. The hydrogen bonds between PSA molecular chains can be weakened through Lewis acid–base complexation during chlorination, enabling more available amide groups to be chlorinated into N-halamine biocidal groups. The resulting nanofibrous membranes render intriguing features such as rechargeable chlorination capability (>4500 ppm), rapid bactericidal activity (6 log reduction of bacteria in 1 min), high particle removal efficiency (>99.8%), long-term durability, and ease of scalable production, which can be perceived as a functional layer of protective equipment that is capable of not only intercepting but also inactivating the pathogens effectively. The successful synthesis of the PSA N-halamine antibacterial nanomaterials opens new ways toward the development of bioprotective materials in a multifunctional and rechargeable form.

Membrane decorated with biocides is an effective way to suppress biofilm growth. However, their immediate biocidal effect usually suffers from a significant decline due to the irreversible consumption of the biocides. Here, a smart nanofiltration membrane is reported with rechargeable antibacterial capability that is fabricated by a facile interfacial polymerization via 3-aminophenylboronic acid and trimesoyl chloride on a polysulfone substrate. Biocides bearing diol groups can be grafted onto the membrane surface under neutral/alkaline condition and then released from the surface under acidic environment, due to the pH-responsive feature of boronate ester complexes. The resultant membrane exhibits integrated properties of fast bacterial inactivating efficiency, rechargeable antibacterial capability, and impressive stability. In addition, the achieved membrane shows remarkable separation efficiency to dye/monovalent salt system. The successful fabrication of the membrane with rechargeable anti-bacterial property provides new insights into the development of pH-responsive and sustainable antibacterial membranes.

Infected wounds remain a major clinical challenge due to persistent inflammation, excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), and bacterial colonization. Here, we present a bioinspired catalytic microneedle (MN) patch that integrates antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and real-time monitoring functions into a single platform. The patch possesses a hierarchical structure with spatially distributed nanocomponents: gold-modified barium titanate (AuB) in the MN tips enables ultrasound-triggered piezoelectric antibacterial activity, while cerium dioxide nanozyme (CeNP) in the backing layer efficiently scavenges ROS and mitigates inflammation. Of note, a structural color hydrogel incorporated in the backing layer provides visual, colorimetric indication of wound exudate, allowing timely patch replacement. Based on these features, it is demonstrated that the hierarchically structured MN patch exhibits robust antibacterial efficacy as well as anti-inflammatory treatment. In vivo evaluations further demonstrate its enhanced healing outcomes, which are characterized by improved tissue regeneration and accelerated resolution of inflammation. Collectively, these results highlight the potential of this smart hierarchical MN platform as an intelligent and multifunctional therapeutic strategy for efficient management of infected wounds.

For quick disinfection treatment, phototherapy, including photothermal therapy and photodynamic therapy, has emerged as a promising alternative to conventional methods. However, the bactericidal effect of phototherapy, which only works upon light, is short-lived. The remaining bacteria in situ may repopulate when the irradiation of light is withdrawn. To address this refractory concern, an antibacterial fibrous membrane consisting of electrospun poly (polycaprolactone) scaffolds and polydopamine (pDA) coated MXene/Ag 3 PO 4 bioheterojunctions (MX@AgP bio-HJs) is devised and developed. Upon near-infrared (NIR) illumination, the MX@AgP nanoparticle (NP) in nanofibrous electrospun membranes exert the excellent bactericidal effect of phototherapy and release Ag + ions which stop the remaining bacteria from multiplying in the dark state. When removing NIR light, pDA in situ reduces Ag + ions to Ag 0 NPs to realize the self-rechargeability of Ag + ions and provides enough Ag + ions for the second phototherapy. In vivo results show that photoactivated nanofibrous membranes can re-shape an infected wound microenvironment to the regenerative microenvironment through killing bacteria, ceasing bleeding, increasing epithelialization, and collagen deposition on the wound bed, as well as promoting angiogenesis. As predicted, the proposal work offers potential prospects for nanofibrous membranes with NIR-assisted “self-rechargeable” antibacterial properties to treat bacteria-infected full-thickness wounds.

Charge carriers will recombine outside the emitting layer (EML) in non-ideal perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs), which can lead to parasitic loss and be detrimental to the performance of PeLEDs. Here, we have subtly utilized the property of perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) to design and optimize the homogeneity and optical property of EML, thereby suppressing the undesired carrier loss behavior in system. Photoluminescence (PL) spectra with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images show that smaller and more homogeneous NCs in size are obtained by temperature-controlled (TC) method. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) images and temperature-dependent PL spectra show that EML with better optical property and uniformity is fabricated. The multiscale capacitance characterization shows that the device with modified EML exhibits significantly reduced leakage current, while the increased specific surface area between electron transport layer (ETL) and EML substantially reduces charge accumulation. Additionally, multiscale reactance, impedance and phase angle responses, reveal that the carrier oscillation behavior in the optimized device is suppressed compared to control group, leading to less energy loss. Consequently, the optimized devices exhibit lower leakage current and superior electroluminescent properties. The luminance is increased from 31650 cd/m 2 to 72941 cd/m 2 , current efficiency (CE) is improved from 59.9 cd/A to 94.3 cd/A, and the external quantum efficiency (EQE) rises from 12.6 % to 19.7 %, corresponding to improvement of 230 %, 157 %, and 156 %, respectively. This research provides valuable insight into the impact of functional layer morphology on carrier dynamic behavior in PeLEDs.
