This article aimed to display the stability and demulsification characteristics of oil displacing Pickering emulsions, which have excellent stability and exhibit fast demulsification properties under the action of non-uniform, high-frequency, high-voltage electric fields. The surface of SiO2 nanoparticles was modified by silane coupling agent to obtain hydrophobic modified SiO2 nanoparticles for preparing the Pickering emulsion. Experiments showed that the stability of Pickering emulsions improved with increasing nanoparticles concentration. Applying a non-uniform electric field at high frequency and high voltage for 4 min was shown to successfully demulsify and dehydrate Pickering emulsions. The dehydration efficiency gradually increased when the electric field voltage was increased from 3 to 7 kV, but the growth rate gradually decreased; when the electric field frequency increased from 1 to 5 kHz, the dehydration efficiency increased in a stepwise manner, but the variation was extremely limited. The best dehydration effect was achieved at 7 kV and 5 kHz, with a dehydration efficiency of 63.6%. Based on the electric field distribution characteristics and particle force analysis, it is proposed that the intrinsic cause of emulsion demulsification is the movement and redistribution of nanoparticles along the electric field intensity gradient direction at the droplet interface by dielectrophoretic force.

Textured piezoelectric composites (PCs) based on dielectrophoresis (DEP) reveal great merits in both improving sensitivity and maintaining flexibility, thus trending to be promising candidates for high sensitive flexible sensors. However, the DEP technique shows poor applicability in fabricating textured PCs with high filling content, which severely limits further improvement of piezoelectric performance. Herein, we propose a new strategy to enhance DEP force by decorating Cu nanoparticles on Ba 0.85 Ca 0.15 Ti 0.9 Zr 0.1 O 3 (BCZT) particles, thus textured BCZT@Cu/PDMS PCs with high filling content are obtained. The results proved that the enhanced DEP force is contributed by the excellent conductivity and capability of distorted electric fields of decorated Cu nanoparticles . Consequently, an ultrahigh piezoelectric voltage constant ( g 33 ) of 720 × 10 −3 Vm/N was achieved, which is much larger than that in other counterparts. Furthermore, the as-prepared piezoelectric sensor exhibits excellent sensitivity and flexibility, which can fit vulnerable joints like a band-aid seamlessly. On this basis, a flexible sport health monitoring system was developed, which shows great capabilities in real-time warn of the risky actions, rectification of wrong postures, and sports injury prevention.

Electric field-driven micro/nanorobots (MNRs), combined with dielectrophoretic forces, provide a label-free approach for active cargo transport. However, their ability to transport cargo becomes severely limited when the cargo volume exceeds their own by several orders of magnitude. In this work, we propose a transport strategy that overcomes this limitation. Specifically, we introduce a “dynamic Janus structure reconstruction” transport strategy powered by asymmetric tubular electrically driven microrobots (ATEDMs). Under high-frequency electric fields, ATEDMs are attracted to the cargo, forming Janus-like structures and generating asymmetric electric field gradients around the contact surfaces, thus generating the dielectrophoretic forces required for cargo transport. The motion of the transported cargo is strongly influenced by the number and distribution of the ATEDMs, and the optimal range of ATEDM numbers for different motion patterns can be determined through probabilistic statistical methods. By integrating static magnetic fields, ATEDMs enable directed and controlled cargo transport. Additionally, we demonstrate the use of ATEDMs for palletizing cargo and transporting large biological tissues. This “dynamic Janus structure reconstruction” transport strategy allows for the transportation of cargoes more than 100,000 times larger than the volume of a single microrobot, providing an effective and versatile approach for transporting large-volume cargoes, thus expanding the application potential of MNRs in complex environments.

Precise force measurement is critical to probe biological events and physics processes, spanning from molecular motor’s motion to the Casimir effect, as well as the detection of gravitational waves. Yet, despite extensive technological developments, the three-dimensional nanoscale measurement of weak forces in aqueous solutions still faces major challenges. Techniques that rely on optically trapped nanoprobes are of significant potential but are beset with limitations, including probe heating induced by high trapping power, undetectable scattering signals and localization errors. Here we report the measurement of the long-distance interaction force in aqueous solutions with a minimum detected force value of 108.2 ± 510.0 attonewton. To achieve this, we develop a super-resolved photonic force microscope based on optically trapped lanthanide-doped nanoparticles coupled with nanoscale three-dimensional tracking-based force sensing. The tracking method leverages neural-network-empowered super-resolution localization, where the position of the force probe is extracted from the optical-astigmatism-modified point spread function. We achieve a force sensitivity down to 1.8 fN Hz –1/2 , which approaches the nanoscale thermal limit. We experimentally measure electrophoresis forces acting on single nanoparticles as well as the surface-induced interaction force on a single nanoparticle. This work opens the avenue of nanoscale thermally limited force sensing and offers new opportunities for detecting sub-femtonewton forces over long distances and biomechanical forces at the single-molecule level.
