The pursuit of discovering new high-temperature superconductors that diverge from the copper-based model 1 , 2 , 3 has profound implications for explaining mechanisms behind superconductivity and may also enable new applications 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 . Here our investigation shows that the application of pressure effectively suppresses the spin–charge order in trilayer nickelate La 4 Ni 3 O 10− δ single crystals, leading to the emergence of superconductivity with a maximum critical temperature ( T c ) of around 30 K at 69.0 GPa. The d.c. susceptibility measurements confirm a substantial diamagnetic response below T c , indicating the presence of bulk superconductivity with a volume fraction exceeding 80%. In the normal state, we observe a strange metal behaviour, characterized by a linear temperature-dependent resistance extending up to 300 K. Furthermore, the layer-dependent superconductivity observed hints at a unique interlayer coupling mechanism specific to nickelates, setting them apart from cuprates in this regard. Our findings provide crucial insights into the fundamental mechanisms underpinning superconductivity, while also introducing a new material platform to explore the intricate interplay between the spin–charge order, flat band structures, interlayer coupling, strange metal behaviour and high-temperature superconductivity.

Development of spatially restricted liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) systems emulating biomolecular condensates is a major challenge in coacervating materials science, due to lack of approaches for spatially restricted coacervation of sequence-defined zwitterionic segments resembling intrinsically disordered proteins. Herein, we present interfacial LLPS-driven polymerization-induced electrostatic self-assembly, namely, interfacial LLPS-PIESA. The asymmetric charge sequence patterning of zwitterionic growing segments is achieved via spontaneous polymerization of ion-pair monomers within a nanoparticle core–shell interface. We show that charge sequence can profoundly affect the self-coacervation, leading to droplet dispersions, dense coacervates, and free-standing hydrogels. Moreover, the interfacial LLPS-PIESA shows a programmed hierarchical condensation self-assembly mechanism involving vesicles-to-lamellae transition, interfacial self-coacervation, lamellae-to-sheets transition, layer-by-layer sheet self-assembly, spatially restricted condensation and agglomeration, and redispersing into fibril network condensates under dynamic evolving surface charge regulation. The spatially restricted asymmetric charge sequence patterning, interfacial self-coacervation, and programmed hierarchical condensation self-assembly, all these elements can serve as the primary principles for the asymmetric charge sequence patterning design of hierarchically nanostructured condensates that emulate cellular biomolecular condensates.

The newly discovered kagome superconductors represent a promising platform for investigating the interplay between band topology, electronic order and lattice geometry 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 . Despite extensive research efforts on this system, the nature of the superconducting ground state remains elusive 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 . In particular, consensus on the electron pairing symmetry has not been achieved so far 18 , 19 , 20 , in part owing to the lack of a momentum-resolved measurement of the superconducting gap structure. Here we report the direct observation of a nodeless, nearly isotropic and orbital-independent superconducting gap in the momentum space of two exemplary CsV 3 Sb 5 -derived kagome superconductors—Cs(V 0.93 Nb 0.07 ) 3 Sb 5 and Cs(V 0.86 Ta 0.14 ) 3 Sb 5 —using ultrahigh-resolution and low-temperature angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Remarkably, such a gap structure is robust to the appearance or absence of charge order in the normal state, tuned by isovalent Nb/Ta substitutions of V. Our comprehensive characterizations of the superconducting gap provide indispensable information on the electron pairing symmetry of kagome superconductors, and advance our understanding of the superconductivity and intertwined electronic orders in quantum materials.

The delicate interplay among the complex intra/inter-layer electron–electron and electron–lattice interactions is the fundamental prerequisite of these exotic quantum states, such as superconductivity, nematic order, and checkerboard charge order. Here, we explore the filling-dependent multiple stable intertwined electronic and atomic orders of the flat-band state of 1T-TaS2 encompassing hole order, phase orders, coexisting left- and right-chiral orders, and mixed phase/chiral orders via scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Combining first-principles calculations, the emergent electronic/atomic orders can be attributed to the weakening of electron–electron correlations and stacking-dependent interlayer interactions. Moreover, achiral intermediate ring-like clusters and nematic charge density wave (CDW) states are successfully realized in intralayer chiral domain wall and interlayer heterochiral stacking regions through chiral overlap configurations. Our study not only deepens the understanding of filling-dependent electronic/atomic orders in flat-band systems but also offers perspectives for exploring exotic quantum states in correlated electronic systems.
