Immediate ultrasmall current-tunable anomalous Hall effect

Li Yang,Hao Wu,Fei Guo,Gaojie Zhang,Wenfeng Zhang,Haixin Chang

Electrical control of the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) provides an important gateway to reveal and regulate topological properties of spins. However, direct, immediate electrical tuning of the AHE in materials has been elusive, unfeasible, and rarely reported. Here, we demonstrate direct, immediate, nonlinear, electric current regulation of the AHE in a single, novel, van der Waals, room-temperature, ferromagnetic, ultrathin, two-dimensional (2D) crystal for intrinsic sensitivity of nodal electronic structures induced by 2D spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in a 2D quantum limit with an ultrasmall current (∼10 2 A cm −2 ). The multivalued electrical tuning of anomalous Hall resistance (R AHE ) ( R A H E 1 R A H E 2 ∗ 100 % ) is up to 584% and remains 126% at room temperature. The squared correlation between R AHE and longitudinal resistance indicates an SOC-dominated Berry curvature-induced AHE. This immediate-current AHE with distinct dependence on the dimension, crystal layer, and electronic topology provides unique quantum platforms for probing the essence of the dimension and for low-power spintronics and brain-like quantum devices.

Tuning liquid aggregation of zwitterionic chitin nanocrystals by graphene oxide planar catchers via electrostatic regulation

Kai Pang,Xiaofang Zhang,Lu Zong,Hongsheng Yang,Tongping Zhang,Yongxin Duan,Jianming Zhang

As important structural units, biomass nanomaterials have exhibited great potentials to construct high-performance macroscopic materials for broad applications by liquid assembly. However, the liquid aggregation of nanomaterials was less investigated. Here, we demonstrate that the one-dimensional (1D) zwitterionic chitin nanocrystals (ZChNCs) can be reversibly captured and released by two-dimensional (2D) planar catchers of graphene oxide (GO) sheets. The dominant electrostatic regulation strategy by pH variation drives that there are three reversible changes for the liquid aggregation of ZChNCs and GO, which were the isolated dispersion state (pH > 7), homogeneous hybridization state (7 ≥ pH ≥ 5), and partially stacked hybridization state (pH < 5), respectively. We found there are no sedimentation during the change of liquid aggregation with the higher absolute Zeta potentials (almost>30 mV). Moreover, the ZChNCs-GO nanohybrids have reached a maximum Zeta potential up to −80 mV, which can be explained by the ionization of excess carboxyl groups on the surface of ZChNCs. Besides, the electrostatic regulation endows the nanohybrids with rheological behavior, which is beneficial to the macro assembly of liquid nanomaterials. This work provides a new class of hybrid colloidal nanomaterials , opens the structural design dimension of macro assembly and holds great potentials in high-performance biodegradable material.

Lithiophilic and conductive V2O3/VN nanosheets as regulating layer for high-rate, high-areal capacity and dendrite-free lithium metal anodes

Yonghuan Han,Zhiyuan Sang,Daolan Liu,Tao Zhang,Jianmin Feng,Wenping Si,Shi Xue Dou,Ji Liang,Feng Hou

Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) possess high energy and power density, while the dendrite growth on lithium metal anodes prevents its practical application. And most of the current modification methods only improve from a single aspect, which is difficult to achieve ideal effect of suppressing dendrite in the long cycling with high rate and areal capacity. Herein, a conductive and lithiophilic patch-like V 2 O 3 /VN nanosheet as regulating layer is designed on surface of lithium metal anode (V 2 O 3 /VN-Li) to hinder the dendrite growth. The superior lithiophilicity, fast electron/ion transport of V 2 O 3 /VN nanosheets contribute to a low nucleation overpotential and uniform lithium deposition, thus greatly suppressing the dendrite formation at high current density with repeated plating/stripping. As a result, the V 2 O 3 /VN-Li anode achieves ultra-long life for over 2000 h under ultra-high current density and areal capacity (30 mA cm −2 , 30 mAh cm −2 ). The modified strategy of multifunctional regulating layer on the surface of lithium metal anodes can open a new direction for the realization of high-power and high-energy–density LMBs.

Highly compressible nanocellulose aerogels with a cellular structure for high-performance adsorption of Cu(II)

Liuting Mo,Yi Tan,Yulin Shen,Shifeng Zhang

Cellulose-based aerogels have considerable potential for various application due to renewable, low cost, and high availability. However, mechanical robustness and functionalization remain major challenges. Here, we synthesized a compressible, recoverable cellulose nanofiber (CNF)/carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)/branched polyethyleneimine (BPEI) aerogel via electrostatic-modulated interfacial covalent crosslinking and freeze-drying process. The porous BPEI@CNF/CMC aerogel possessed excellent mechanical compression and high-density metal-chelating groups, which exhibited fast adsorption kinetics and high adsorption capacity (452.49 mg g −1 ) in static copper adsorption process. Furthermore, BPEI@CNF/CMC aerogels displayed excellent recyclability and could still reach 85% after 10 cycles. The integrated analyses of ATR-FTIR and XPS suggested that the predominant adsorption mechanism included electrostatic interaction, ion-exchange and chelation. This strategy provides a sustainable route to fabricate efficient biomass-based adsorbents for selective copper removal from water.
