To achieve effective temperature-regulated modification of spray-bonded cotton for superior thermal management capabilities, a dual-network phase transition microspheres (PCP) was developed through a one-step process using emulsion polymerization. This innovative approach incorporated eutectic polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the phase change component, chemically cross-linked polyacrylamide (PAM) as the first network, and ionically cross-linked calcium alginate (CA) as the second network. The PCP, which contains PEG solid-loaded in the dual network, was utilized as a modifier for the post-treatment of spray-bonded cotton using a coating technique. Key findings reveal that the effectively immobilization of PEG has been, without any abserved chemical reactions between PEG and PAM/CA. Additionally, PEG maintained its crystalline properties when combined with PAM/CA. The PCP exhibited a distinct morphology with smooth, spherical particles averaging round 5 μm in diameter. The optimized PCP sample exhibits a melting onset temperature of 37.20 °C, a melting enthalpy of 92.59 J·g −1 , and impressive heat resistance. The resulting temperature-regulated spray-bonded cotton (TRSBC) displayed intelligent temperature control characteristics with a melting onset at 37.65 °C and a latent heat of 32.08 J·g −1 . Compared to untreated spray-bonded cotton (USBC), TRSBC exhibited a notable delay effect in both heating and cooling processes, resulting in a temperature differential of 23.5 °C during heating and 16.3 °C during cooling, underscoring its superior temperature control capabilities. Research indicates that TRSBC possesses significant potential in thermal management applications, encompassing clothing, high-tech textiles, and temperature-regulating sandwich panels, thereby presenting considerable opportunities for commercial ventures. Phase change materials, changing from solid to liquid and vice versa, are capable of storing and releasing a large amount of thermal energy during the phase change, and thus hold promise for numerous applications including thermal protection of electronic devices. Shaping these materials into microspheres for additional fascinating properties is efficient but challenging. In this regard, a novel phase change microsphere with the design for electrical-regulation and thermal storage/release properties was fabricated via the combination of monodispersed graphene aerogel microsphere (GAM) and phase change paraffin. A programmable method, i.e., coupling ink jetting–liquid marbling–supercritical drying (ILS) techniques, was demonstrated to produce monodispersed graphene aerogel microspheres (GAMs) with precise size-control. The resulting GAMs showed ultralow density, low electrical resistance, and high specific surface area with only ca. 5% diameter variation coefficient, and exhibited promising performance in smart switches. The phase change microspheres were obtained by capillary filling of phase change paraffin inside the GAMs and exhibited excellent properties, such as low electrical resistance, high latent heat, well sphericity, and thermal buffering. Assembling the phase change microsphere into the microcircuit, we found that this tiny device was quite sensitive and could respond to heat as low as 0.027 J.

Microspheres with phase change properties were fabricated by polymerization of hexadecyl acrylate (HA) and different cross-linking agents. The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The results show that, the samples that added cross-linking agents have a smooth surface and the latent heat of them is different. The experiments show that all of the cross-linked copolymer shells can be made into temperature controlled release microspheres. These materials can be potentially applied in the field of thermal energy storage. β-tricalcium phosphate was encapsulated in microspheres to obtain one with a fast release effect. It will effectively promote bone conduction when these microspheres were implanted into a bone defect. This microsphere can be used for orthopedic implant or coating of instrument in the future.

Buildings represent a significant global energy consumer, with heating and cooling accounting for the dominant demand sector, where renewable energy penetration remains insufficient. Solar energy, as the most abundant clean resource, necessitates advanced materials to address intermittency and low energy density challenges. While phase change materials (PCM) integrating photothermal conversion and thermal storage functions offer critical solutions for energy-efficient buildings, their practical implementation is hindered by inherent limitations: low thermal conductivity compromises heat transfer efficiency, and leakage during phase transitions undermines system reliability. These deficiencies impose fundamental deployment barriers in construction applications demanding precise thermal regulation. To transcend these limitations, we engineer hierarchical mineral microspheres featuring three key innovations: a dual-scale thermal network via synergistic integration of graphite nanosheets and silver nanowires (AgNWs) into porous attapulgite (ATP), where graphite nanosheets establish fundamental heat conduction pathways and AgNWs act as ‘high-speed channels’ to bridge the contact thermal resistance between nanosheets, overcoming conductivity barriers of carbon-only systems; molecular-level leakage confinement through biomimetic sodium alginate/CaCl₂ cross-linking, forming plant cell-inspired core-shell structures; and cement-compatible fabrication enabled by vacuum-assisted PCM loading for direct construction material integration. The optimized composite (P-PVA-AAGC) achieves exceptional thermal storage capacity (melting enthalpy: 112.9 J/g; solidification: 102.2 J/g) and exhibits a 3-fold extension in phase transition duration (35–30 °C) versus P-ATP. Crucially, cement-integrated microspheres demonstrate unprecedented thermal regulation in functional building blocks, validating scalable deployment. This architecture establishes a new paradigm for energy-saving building envelopes and solar thermal systems, enabling high-efficiency thermal regulation in functional building blocks and addressing critical sustainability gaps in construction.
