To address the environmental and resource challenges arising from the advancement of the nuclear power industry, it becomes imperative to foster the development of efficient and expeditious materials for uranium adsorption. Here, for the first time, a kind of niobium phosphate with improvement of interlayer spacing and hydrophilicity (NbP-8) is employed by crystal phase modulation for uranium adsorption, which synergistically realizes structural and interfacial microenvironment modulation. Characterizations demonstrate that the expanded interlayer spacing contributes to accommodation of uranyl which increases adsorption capacity, and the enhanced hydrophilicity reduces infiltration time and greatly accelerates the adsorption rate. Consequently, NbP-8 possesses exceptional adsorption capacity of 1470.4 mg g −1 , ultra-fast adsorption rate with an equilibrium time of 1 min and high selectivity, delivering one of the best phosphate uranium adsorbents. Moreover, this work opens a new venue for optimizing performance of phosphate by changing the crystal phase to modulate structure and interfacial microenvironment for uranium adsorption.
Phase modulation of noble metal alloys (NMAs) is critically important in nanoscience since the distinct atomic arrangements can largely determine their physicochemical properties. However, the precise modulation of NMAs is formidably challenging, because thermodynamically stable phases are generally preferential compared to those metastable ones. Herein, we proposed a potential energy trapping strategy for phase modulation of Pd–Te alloys with solvents. Thereinto, ethylene glycol can increase the energy barrier for both Pd leaching and Te introduction, forming metastable Pd 20 Te 7 phase. Inversely, N, N-dimethylformamide is unable to trap metastable phase, inducing the phase evolution to thermodynamically stable PdTe phase, and the precise phase modulation was realized including Pd 20 Te 7 , PdTe and PdTe 2 phases. The Pd–Te alloys displayed phase-dependent formic acid oxidation catalytic performance with PdTe phase showing the best. This work proposes a strategy for creating metastable phase with potential energy trap, which may deepen the understanding of phase engineering for noble metal-based nanocrystals.

Antiferroelectric (AFE) ceramics are competitive energy storage candidates for advanced high-power devices. However, the poor recoverable energy density and efficiency are challenging and severely hinder their applications. Here, superior energy storage performance is obtained in Bi3+-, Sr2+-, and Ta5+-codoped AgNbO3-based ceramics. Specifically, with the effective phase modulation via Bi3+, the paraelectric T phase stabilizes at room temperature and facilitates a recoverable energy storage density of 9.27 J/cm3 and an efficiency of 83.2% in (Ag0.71Bi0.07Sr0.04)(Nb0.85Ta0.15)O3 ceramics. The corresponding multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) further promotes the recoverable energy storage density to 14.32 J/cm3 and efficiency to 97.8%, which is almost the best comprehensive energy storage performance among AN-based ceramics and MLCCs to the best of our knowledge. The proposed strategy is generally applicable to design high-performance energy storage devices and other functionalities of AFE dielectric materials.
