Sb 2 S 3-x Se x (0 ≤x ≤ 3) is promising for practically applicable solar cell since it possesses excellent stability, suitable band gap, high extinction coefficient and abundant elemental storage. This study demonstrates a novel methodology towards simultaneous dissolution of Se and Sb 2 O 3 for direct deposition of Sb 2 S 3-x Se x films. Mechanistic study shows that the formation of selenium-nitrogen free radical in sulfur-containing complex is responsible for the dissolution of selenium. The energy levels of the as-synthesized Sb 2 S 3-x Se x were examined by synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopy , revealing that more Se in the Sb 2 S 3-x Se x leads to the valence band shifting considerably upward while the conduction band remaining nearly unchanged. Moreover, for the first time we present that the solution processed Sb 2 S 3-x Se x can generate photovoltaic performance with an efficiency of 5.8%. This research provides a straightforward strategy for the fabrication of Sb 2 S 3-x Se x solar cells and offers an effective method for the synthesis of metal selenosulfide films.

The oxygen evolution reaction is the primary obstacle in the electrochemical breakdown of water; whereas transition metal selenides exhibit remarkable OER activity, their stability is compromised by the oxidative dissolution of selenium. The high-entropy materials can provide a feasible strategy to solve this problem due to their multi-element synergy and entropy stabilization effect. Here, we designed novel high-entropy MnCoCuZnAlSe 2 electrocatalysts with ultra-low overpotential (190 mV@10 mA cm −2 ) and exceptional endurance (500 h@10 mA cm −2 ), which outperform other selenide and IrO 2 catalysts. The high entropy effect was experimentally confirmed to inhibit selenium dissolution and improve the stability of transition metal selenides. Calculations using Density Functional Theory suggest that cobalt is actually MnCoCuZnAlSe 2 's true active center. The extraordinary OER properties of high-entropy selenides offer great opportunities for the design of ideal catalysts for practical applications.
Lithium–selenium (Li–Se) batteries have recently attracted more and more attentions as new secondary battery systems due to the similarity but better performances than lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries. However, the dissolution of selenium in electrolytes results in low selenium utilization, concentration polarization, inferior capacities, and unstable cycling performances. Herein, 46.58 wt% of selenium is loaded on carbon cloths through the calcination process, which were directly used as self-supporting cathodes. Carbonized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofiber membranes produced by electrospinning are worn as the protective clothing between the cathode and separator to avoid the loss and dissolution of selenium. The stabilization of Li–Se batteries was enhanced by introducing two interlayers, as expected, they exhibit a stable reversible average capacity of 590 mA h g–1 during 1000 cycles at a current density of 0.5 C (1 C = 675 mA g–1). No polyselenide formation is found during charging/discharging, and the effects of the introduced PAN interlayers on improving the stability and reducing the polarization of the assembled Li–Se batteries are confirmed by mechanistic characterizations. These regulated Li–Se batteries present great application potential in the future, and the design idea can also be promoted to explore other energy storage systems.
