Sulfidation has been an efficient method for arsenic (As) removal from acid wastewater, yet it is inefficient under neutral and weak acid conditions. The higher pH values resulted in the formation of the unstable As-S precipitates, especially employing Na 2 S as the vulcanizing agent as it can increase the pH value dramatically. Here, we found that SO 2 exhibited excellent multi-roles in As removal when applying H 2 S-sulfidation method. The acidification effect of SO 2 lead to the decreasing of pH values, guaranteed the stable As-S precipitates formation. Through the SO 2 pre-treatment method, the results indicated that the pH values decreased from 7 to 2.8, with the increased H 2 S utilization efficiencies for As(III) removal from 20.9% to 92.0%. Moreover, SO 2 post-treatment not only increased the As(III) removal efficiency, but also eliminated the excessive sulfides in solution. The reaction mechanism analysis indicated that the liquid comproportionation reaction between SO 2 and excessive sulfides plays a vital role. The generated nascent sulfur (N-S 0 ) can adsorb arsenic species and promote the agglomeration of As(III)-S precipitates. Furthermore, the SO 2 and H 2 S co-treatment exhibited excellent As(V) removal performance. This study provides a new alternative method to improve the H 2 S-sulfidation process with SO 2 for As removal from wastewater.

Currently, domestic and foreign copper smelting waste acid mainly employ sulfuration method to realize the separation of Cu(Ⅱ) and As(Ⅲ), facing the problem of unreasonable sulfidizing agent dosage and sulfidation time. If excessive sulfidizing agent dosage or overly long sulfidation time, it will lead to human health threat and large hazardous waste volume. If insufficient sulfidizing agent dosage or overly short sulfidation time, it will cause the waste of copper resources and substandard treatment solution. In this paper, the competitive sulfuration mechanism of Cu(Ⅱ)/As(Ⅲ) solution ( C (As(Ⅲ)) = 10 g/L) with different Cu(Ⅱ) concentrations is revealed, i.e., when C (Cu(Ⅱ)) ≥7 g/L, the sulfidation sequence of Cu(Ⅱ) and As(Ⅲ) follows the solubility product constant (Ksp); when C (Cu(Ⅱ)) ≤6 g/L, the precipitation process of Cu(Ⅱ)/As(Ⅲ) is dominated by the liquid-phase mass-transfer mechanism (ion diffusion). The sulfide precipitation of Cu(Ⅱ)/As(Ⅲ) is a co-deposition process. With the increase of sulfidizing agent dosage ( S/Cu ratio) and sulfidation time ( t ), the Cu(Ⅱ) concentration gradually decreases to reach complete removal, while the further increase of S/Cu ratio and t leads to the decrease of copper content in the sulfide precipitates. Finally, the methods are demonstrated that detected accurately Cu(Ⅱ) and As(Ⅲ) concentrations in a rapid and non-destructive manner. This work not only provides a novel perspective on the efficient separation of Cu(Ⅱ)/As(Ⅲ) in copper smelting waste acid, but also opens a unique approach for direct and rapid detection of Cu(Ⅱ)/As(Ⅲ) concentration during the sulfuration process. Hence, this research is a guide for the regulating means ( S/Cu and t ) in the actual multi-step sulfuration process of copper smelting waste acid treatment and electrorefining solution purification .

A CdS–MoS2 photoelectrode with a double-layer core–shell structure was prepared using a simple electrodeposition–in situ sulfurization method on a Mo substrate. The photocatalytic activity of as-prepared electrodes was evaluated using a photoelectrochemical H2-generation experiment. The photocurrent and photon–electron conversion efficiency of the CdS–MoS2 photoelectrode were nearly double those of a CdS photoanode prepared on FTO glass. The high activity of the CdS–MoS2 photoelectrode was due to the higher separation efficiency of carriers caused by the formed CdS–MoS2 Janus heterojunction structure, which made directional transmission and electron–hole separation possible. Our experiments show that, in addition to being a good co-catalyst in powder material for photocatalytic hydrogen production, MoS2 can also be used as an electron acceptor layer to enhance electron–hole separation.

A simple and novel method based on recrystallization-sulfurization method has been developed to fabricate Ce 2 S 3 /MoS 2 composite and their structure, morphology and electrochemical performance is researched systematically. The Ce 2 S 3 /MoS 2 composite exhibit enhanced electrochemical performance compared with Ce 2 S 3 and MoS 2 . Among them, Ce 2 S 3 /MoS 2 composite has an initial reversible discharge capacity of 187.5 mAh g −1 , coulombic efficiency of 78.6% and a reversible capacity as high as 636.5 mAh g −1 , coulombic efficiency of 99.7% after 500 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g −1 and the highest discharge capacity of 97.3 mAh g −1 at a high current density of 1000 mA g −1 , showing the best reversible capacity and cycling performance. The results show that the compositing between MoS 2 and Ce 2 S 3 can maintain the stability of the structure during the charge/discharge process and existence of Ce 2 S 3 can enhance the electrical conductivity of Ce 2 S 3 /MoS 2 composite and further improves the reversible capacities, cycling performance and rate performance of Ce 2 S 3 /MoS 2 composite.

In order to improve the current-carrying properties of AgCu10 alloy, AgCuS-carbon nanotubes (CNTs) composite coatings were synthesized on AgCu10 substrates using an in-situ sulfide method. During the process, an entangled CNTs layer was formed firstly on the AgCu10 substrate by dipping the substrate into a CNTs dispersant and dried at room temperature, then an AgCuS-CNTs coating was synthesized in-situ by immersing the substrate with the CNTs layer in a 0.1 M Na 2 S solution. The current-carrying friction performance of the composite coating was significantly improved. Compared with the AgCu10 substrate, the friction coefficient was decreased from ∼0.35 to ∼0.15, and the wear rate was reduced by 2 orders of magnitude. Furthermore, the electrical resistivity of the coatings was as low as 2.44 × 10 −6 Ω·cm, which was almost the same as the AgCu10 substrate.

The ZnSO 4 solution leached from zinc oxide dust requires arsenic removal prior to electrolysis. Traditional lime-ferric salt methods face issues like long reaction times, large As residue, and low efficiency. This study proposes an ultrasound enhanced sodium sulfide process for efficient and rapid As removal. The influence of factors such as S/As molar ratio, pH, temperature, reaction time, and ultrasonic intensity on As removal efficiency was evaluated. Results identified the S/As ratio and pH as the most influential parameters. When the pH of zinc sulfate solution is greater than 1, zinc will enter the residue more with the increase of pH, resulting in increased zinc loss. Under optimized conditions, As removal reached 99.39%. Compared to the lime-ferric salt method, the sulfidation process reduced As-bearing residue by 73.72% and shortened the reaction time by 90%. The enhancement is attributed to ultrasonic cavitation and associated mechanical effects. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM-EDS) analyses confirmed that the ultrasound irradiation improves sodium sulfide's As removal. Kinetic studies show that the process under ultrasonic enhancement follows internal diffusion and chemical reaction mixing control, whereas conventional conditions follow internal diffusion control. Ultrasonic enhancement reduces activation energy from 14.48 to 9.16 kJ/mol, lowering the reaction barrier and improving efficiency. The results demonstrate that ultrasound-assisted sodium sulfide treatment is a highly effective alternative for arsenic removal from ZnSO 4 solutions.
