A hierarchically acylhydrazone-linked COFs composite membrane for iodine interception and organic solvent forward osmosis
The effective methods and materials for interception of iodine and the organic solvent forward osmosis (OSFO) are of great significance. In this study, we fabricated two types of hierarchically hydrazone-linked COFs interlayered membranes based on the allyl or propyl group modified monomer. The morphology and size of the initially fabricated powdery COFs could be modified and regulated by the ultrasonic dispersion process, generating a series of COFs colloidal solution. Through the in situ interfacial polymerization (IP) with active amines and acyl chloride, a series of stable COFs interlayered thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) membrane could be achieved, which significantly improves the OSFO performance and expands its application in interception of iodine. After optimization, the membrane exhibits high rejection rate and good solvent flux, making it a reliable method for efficient organic recovery from the mother liquor. Controlled experiments and theoretical investigations including molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrated that the high rejection capacity and good solvent flux may be endowed by the allyl groups of TFDH-All, imparting the membranes with good abilities to combine solutes while not hindering the transmembrane transmission of solvent molecules.
