In food systems, proteins and polyphenols typically coexist in a non-covalent manner. However, the inherent rigid structure of proteins may hinder the binding sites of polyphenols, thereby limiting the strength of their interaction. In the study, magnetic field (MF) treatment was used to enhance non-covalent interactions between coconut globulin (CG) and tannic acid (TA) to improve protein flexibility, enhancing their functional properties without causing oxidation of polyphenols. Based on protein structure results, the interaction between CG and TA caused protein structure to unfold, exposing hydrophobic groups. Treatment with a MF, particularly at 3 mT, further promoted protein unfolding, as evidenced by a decrease in α-helix structure and an increase in coil random. These structural transformations led to the exposure of the internal binding site bound to TA and strengthening the CG-TA interaction (polyphenol binding degree increased from 62.3 to 68.2%). The characterization of molecular forces indicated that MF treatment strengthened hydrogen bonding-dominated non-covalent interactions between CG and TA, leading to improved molecular flexibility of the protein. Specifically, at a MF treatment at 3 mT, CG-TA colloidal particles with small size and high surface hydrophobicity exhibited optimal interfacial activity and wettability (as evidenced by a three-phase contact angle of 89.0°). Consequently, CG-TA-stabilized high internal phase Pickering emulsions (HIPPEs) with uniform droplets and dense gel networks at 3 mT. Furthermore, the utilization of HIPPEs in 3D printing resulted in consistent geometric shapes, uniform surface textures, and distinct printed layers, demonstrating superior printing stability. As a result, MF treatment at 3 mT was identified as the most favorable. This research provides novel insights into how proteins and polyphenols interact, thereby enabling natural proteins to be utilized in a variety of food applications.

Pulsed magnetic field treatment (MT) was applied to cemented carbide (WC–12Co) for enhancing its wear resistance in contact titanium alloy (TC4). Based on the magnetic response after MT, ferromagnetic Ni and Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles and nonferromagnetic Cu were selected as additives to prepare lubricating fluids. The results reveal that the wear resistance of the cemented carbide/titanium alloy contact under cutting fluid lubrication was improved by MT. Significantly, the wear resistance was further enhanced by coupling of MT and Fe 3 O 4 magnetofluid. The workpiece wear volume of coupling decreased by 33.9%, and the ball wear scar decreased by 36.4% compared with that of the untreated ball in cutting fluid lubricant. The enhanced wear resistance comes from the magnetic response of Fe 3 O 4 to the treated magnetic ball (remanence) and improved hardness. The adsorption of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles onto the treated magnetic ball reduces the adhesion of TC4 and forms a titanium alloy film containing Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles. In addition, increased hardness due to magnetostriction and magnetic domain enlargement during pulsed magnetization also contributes to the enhanced wear resistance.

To explore an eco-friendly approach to improve the milling performance of TC4 (Ti-6Al-4 V) alloy, pulsed magnetic field treatment and magnetofluid are simultaneously applied to the NbN-coated cemented carbide (WC–12Co) milling tools. To evaluate the coupling effect of pulsed magnetic field treatment with magnetofluid, milling experiments of TC4 were conducted under cutting fluid and magnetofluid lubrication , respectively. The milling force, tool wear, and workpiece surface quality of magnetic field treated tools were compared with those of untreated tools. When the cutting fluid was lubricated, the magnetic field treatment reduced the feed force by 8.8 %. In contrast, the magnetic field treatment reduced the feed force by 20.7 % when the magnetofluid was lubricated, which reduced tool wear and also weakened coating flaking. The coupling of the magnetic field treatment and the magnetofluid significantly improved the milling performance of the tool, reducing surface roughness by 40.9 % compared to the untreated tool with cutting fluid lubrication. The enhanced milling performance mainly results from the coupling effect of magnetic field treatment and magnetofluid, which has a strong magnetic response to the treated tool and the magnetofluid was attracted to the magnetized tool, enhancing the lubrication of the contact area. In addition, the enhanced mechanical properties (8.2 % increase in hardness, 13.1 % decrease in elastic modulus , and 4.5 % increase in thermal conductivity) resulting from the pulsed magnetic field treatment reduces the milling temperature (11.7 °C) also contribute to the enhanced milling performance.

Agarose–based electrolyte containing magnetic Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles is studied for quasi–solid–state dye–sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) under external magnetic field treatment. SEM studies reveal the existence of oriented microstructure in Co 3 O 4 –modified agarose electrolyte film under proper magnetic field intensity. The formation mechanism of this ordered structure induced by magnetic field is analyzed. The impedance analysis shows that the ionic conductivity of Co 3 O 4 –modified agarose electrolyte is obviously increased by applying magnetic field intensity of 25 mT. Improved electron recombination process and photoelectric performance are observed in DSSCs under certain magnetic field treatment by electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) and photovoltaic studies. The DSSC treated with magnetic field can maintain the efficiency unchanged for 434 hours without sealing. This is attributed to the high ionic conductivity and improved electron transfer process in DSSC resulting from the magnetic field treatment. Comparison of photovoltaic performances for Co 3 O 4 and NiO modified DSSCs under 25 mT magnetic field treatment shows that Co 3 O 4 -modified DSSC exhibits higher energy conversion efficiency than that of NiO-modified one at the same condition.

In this work we investigate novel, agarose-based polymer electrolyte that is modified by magnetic NiO nanoparticles for solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) applications. After proper treatment under an external magnetic field , the agarose electrolyte exhibits increased ionic conductivity and better penetration into the mesoporous TiO 2 photoanode film, which improves the power conversion efficiency of the DSSCs. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurement is also performed to analyze the magnetic field effect on cell performance. After applying proper magnetic filed intensity, the recombination resistance and redox transport resistance in the devices are improved. This method can be possibly applied to other solid-state electrolyte materials to improve their performance and can lead to more efficient DSSCs.
