High-Density Anisotropy Magnetism Enhanced Microwave Absorption Performance in Ti3C2Tx MXene@Ni Microspheres

Caiyue Wen,Xiao Li,Ruixuan Zhang,Chunyang Xu,Wenbin You,Zhengwang Liu,Biao Zhao,Renchao Che

Two-dimensional materials, especially the newly emerging MXene, have attracted numerous interests in the fields of energy conversion/storage and electromagnetic shielding/absorption. However, the inherently inevitable aggregation and absence of magnetic loss of MXene considerably limit its electromagnetic absorption application. The introduction of magnetic component and favorable structural engineering are the alternatives to improve the microwave absorption (MA) performance. Herein, we report a spheroidization strategy to assemble double-shell MXene@Ni microspheres, where the commonly lamellar MXene are reshaped into three-dimensional microspheres that provide the substrate for oriented growth of Ni nanospikes. Whereas this structural feature offers massive accessible active surfaces that effectively promote the dielectric loss ability, the introduction of magnetic Ni nanospikes enables the additional magnetic loss capacity. Benefiting from these merits, the synthesized 3D MXene@Ni microspheres exhibit superior MA performance with the minimum reflection loss value of −59.6 dB at an ultrathin thickness (∼1.5 mm) and effective absorption bandwidth of 4.48 GHz. Moreover, the electron holography results reveal that the high-density anisotropy magnetism plays an important role in the improvement of MA performance, which provides an insight for the design of MXene-based materials as high-efficient microwave absorbers.

TiN/Fe2Ni2N/SiO2 composites for magnetic-dielectric balance to facilitate temperature-stable broadband microwave absorption

Yupeng Shi,Dan Li,Haoxu Si,Yuping Duan,Chunhong Gong,Jingwei Zhang

Dielectric ceramics composites are potential high-temperature microwave absorption materials (MAMs), and the critical challenge is to achieve high-efficiency and temperature insensitive absorption characteristics suitable for wide temperature and frequency range. Herein, the electromagnetic attenuation properties of TiN/Fe 2 Ni 2 N/SiO 2 composites are studied in detail. The magnetic ceramic composites proposed exhibited stable attenuation behaviors at a wide temperature range (293–873 K). Notably, the optimal reflection loss (RL) value had reached −32.4 dB with a thickness of 2.8 mm at 373 K, and the effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) covered 3.89 GHz at 873 K. The excellent high-temperature attenuation capacity is attributed to the balancing strategy of dielectric and magnetic losses, as well as multiple polarization loss behaviors. The results showed that introducing magnetic components to form magnetic ceramic composites might shed light on the development of the TiN ceramic family for promising MAMs at a wide temperature range.

Design and fabrication of a hollow nanobowl-like heterostructured PPy@Co/CoFe2O4@HNBC composite as a remarkable electromagnetic wave absorber

Pan Xu,Hongru He,Jiyong Fang,Tiantian Shang,Shan Wang,Shuyuan Ge,Shuoqi Wu,Xigui Yue

A heterostructured polypyrrole@magnetic Co/CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles@hollow nanobowl-like carbon (PPy@Co/CoFe 2 O 4 @HNBC) composite with a layer-by-layer (LBL) structure based on HNBC was prepared via a facile three-step process. HNBC was synthesized by a typical template method, then sequentially decorated with Co/CoFe 2 O 4 and PPy via in-situ growth and polymerization. The relationship between the structure, components, and electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption performance of PPy@Co/CoFe 2 O 4 @HNBC was studied in depth. The EMW absorbing research shows that PPy@Co/CoFe 2 O 4 @HNBC exhibits excellent EMW absorption capability, with a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of up to −61.85 dB at 12.80 GHz and 1.90 mm and a widest effective absorption bandwidth (WEAB, RL≤−10.00 dB) value of 5.60 GHz at 1.70 mm. The excellent EMW absorption performance of PPy@Co/CoFe 2 O 4 @HNBC can be ascribed to the multiple reflection and scattering that occurs due to its unique microstructure and the synergistic effects between the polarization and conduction induced dielectric loss , and the natural resonance and exchange resonance induced magnetic loss. As a consequence, the PPy@Co/CoFe 2 O 4 @HNBC composite designed in this work is a hopeful candidate for application in the field of EMW absorption.

Electrostatically fabricated heterostructure of interfacial-polarization-enhanced Fe3O4/C/MXene for ultra-wideband electromagnetic wave absorption

Qingwei Li,Kai Nan,Wei Wang,Hao Zheng,Kaikai He,Yan Wang

Electromagnetic (EM) pollution can disrupt the functioning of advanced electronic devices, hence it’s necessary to design EM wave absorbers with high-level absorption capabilities. The Ti 3 C 2 T x (MXene) is classified as a potential EM absorbing material; nevertheless, the lack of magnetic loss mechanism leads to its inadequate EM absorbing performance. On this basis, a novel composite design with promising EM absorption properties is hypothesized to be the integration of few-layer MXene and heterogeneous magnetic MOF derivatives (Fe 3 O 4 /C) with complementary advantages. Herein, we synthesized two-dimensional (2D) interfacial-polarization-enhanced MXene hybrid (Fe 3 O 4 /C/MXene) by electrostatic assembly. It is notable that the interfacial polarization is realized by adding a small amount of magnetic Fe 3 O 4 /C. Furthermore, the Fe 3 O 4 /C/ MXene demonstrates an astonishing effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 10.7 GHz and an excellent EM wave absorption performance (RL min ) of −66.9 dB. Moreover, the radar cross section (RCS) of Fe 3 O 4 /C/MXene is lower than −15.1 dB m 2 from −90° to 90° with a minimum RCS value of −52.6 dB m 2 at 32°. In addition, the significant attenuation of the EM wave is due to the synergistic effect of improved impedance matching, dielectric loss, and magnetic loss. Thus, the magnetized Fe 3 O 4 /C/MXene hybrid is expected to emerge as a strong contender for high-performance EM wave absorbers.

Porous Biomass Carbon Composites Derived from Canadian Goldenrod and Their Excellent Microwave Absorption

Zhidai Zhou,Yan Yan,Jiaming Liu,Zhen He,Yuxin Wang

Electromagnetic wave pollution has become a growing concern in recent decades. Biomass-derived carbon materials have attracted significant attention as wave-absorbing materials due to their easy availability, low cost, and environmental friendliness. In this study, the invasive plant Solidago canadensis (Canada goldenrod) in China was used as the carbon source, and a two-step pyrolysis and hydrothermal process was applied to create a porous composite material with magnetic CoFe2O4particles. This improved the impedance matching of the biomass carbon and introduced multiple loss mechanisms. The combination of magnetic loss, interfacial polarization, dipole polarization, and multiple reflections in the biomass carbon produced a material with excellent microwave absorption properties. At 16.76 GHz with a thickness of 2.5 mm, the material achieved a minimum reflection loss of −35.21 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth of 7.76 GHz. This study presents a promising method for developing biomass-based absorbers and offers an efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly solution for managing invasive species.
