Understanding the workability of alkali-activated phosphorus slag (AAPS) pastes is fundamental for their efficient application. This study revealed the novel mutual inhibition mechanism through which the alkali dose and silicate modulus affect the workability of AAPS pastes based on the hydration reaction . The slump loss of NaOH-activated phosphorus slag (NAPS) paste was slow, and that of waterglass-activated phosphorus slag (WAPS) paste was faster because the soluble Si in waterglass accelerated the dissolution of the phosphorus slag (PS). At a moderate waterglass modulus, the slump losses of the WAPS pastes were slow because the moderate [Al]/{[Ca]+[Mg]} ratio in the pore solution minimized the difference in the magnitude of mutual inhibition between Ca, Mg and Al, causing all hydrates to form slowly. However, at higher and lower waterglass moduli, the WAPS pastes exhibited fast slump losses because hydrates with excess elements formed rapidly due to the excessively high or low [Al]/{[Ca]+[Mg]} ratio.

This work concentrated on the decoration of AgNPs to yellow phosphorus slag (YPS) using both chemical (NaBH 4 ) and biological ( Areca catechu nut and Jasminum subtriplinerve leaf extracts) reducing agents, as well as its use as antibacterial and enhancement additives for organic coatings based on acrylic emulsion resin. It is the first study about the decoration of AgNPs on the surface of YPS using bio-reduction agents ( A. catechu nut and J. subtriplinerve leaf extracts). The characteristics of YPS decorated by AgNPs (YPS@AgNPs) were determined using attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering methods. To quantify the amount of AgNPs in YPS@AgNPs, atomic absorption spectroscopy was used. The results of YPS@AgNPs fabrication confirmed that the above green reduction agents had a higher efficiency and were more suitable than the chemical reduction agent (NaBH 4 ). Moreover, the ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria strains of YPS@AgNPs using the J. subtriplinerve leaf extract as a reducing agent gave the best result among the three agents. In particular, the bactericidal activity of YPS@AgNPs against the new marine bacterium, Pseudomonas stutzeri B27 , was evaluated, and it was found that YPS@AgNPs can inhibit the growth of an antibiotic-resistant bacterium, P. stutzeri B27 . They enhance not only the mechanical properties but also the bactericidal ability of the water-borne acrylic resin coating.

Low-valuable utilization and a massive accumulation of yellow phosphorus slag (YPS) have caused severe pollution in surrounding environments. Among numerous implementation strategies, the conversion of YPS into phosphorus-containing zeolites represents a promising approach for high value-added utilization. Herein, we report that P-ZSM-5 zeolites were successfully prepared from acid-leaching YPS in one step using a hydrothermal synthesis method. The obtained P-ZSM-5 zeolites exhibited high crystallinity, uniform crystal size (200–400 nm), and a large BET surface area (>400 m2/g). Accordingly, a nonclassical crystallization mechanism of P-ZSM-5 zeolites from the YPS was proposed by multiple advanced characterizations. Importantly, the presence of phosphorus not only induced framework Al sited in the straight/sinusoidal channels and improved the hydrothermal stability of the zeolite framework but also enhanced the Brønsted acidity. Under comparable conditions, the as-prepared P-ZSM-5(75) zeolite catalyst with a higher ratio of Brønsted/Lewis acid sites in the methanol-to-propylene reaction exhibited a considerable catalytic lifetime (30 h, WHSV = 6 h–1), high propylene selectivity (55.1%), and a propylene-to-ethylene ratio of 5.9. The advancement in P-ZSM-5 zeolites paves a novel way for more effective YPS utilization and driving sustainability in phosphorus-based chemical production.

There has been increasing attention devoted to the treatment of wastewater to eliminate organic dyes. Here, a composite material was developed using SiO 2 matrix material obtained from yellow phosphorus slag and loaded with MgO , then examined for its ability to absorb the malachite green dye. The influence of a variety of variables, such as time, temperature, pH, and initial simulated effluent concentration, was investigated. These investigations demonstrated that when using this SiO 2 -MgO adsorbent, a maximum malachite green adsorption rate of 97.72 % was obtained, with precisely 115.64 mg g −1 of dye absorbed. Interestingly, the prepared SiO 2 -MgO was stable and regenerated successfully, exhibiting good performance throughout the four cycles. The specific surface area and pore size of the developed adsorbent composite material were found to be 352.76 m 2 g −1 and 2–10 nm, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry , X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analyses revealed that electrostatic adsorption, dipole-dipole H-bonding, ion exchange, and Yoshida H-bonding interactions were among the mechanisms used by this SiO 2 -MgO composite to adsorb malachite green. Importantly, this adsorbent can be simply and efficiently produced, making it well-suited to lowering MgO utilization and raising SiO 2 adsorption efficacy while allowing for greater yellow phosphorus slag utilization and the establishment of a novel solid waste treatment approach.
