Epitaxial growth of Bi4Ti3O12-BiPO4 Z-scheme heterojunction to promote carrier transfer for photocatalytic oxidation of NO

Zhinian Liu,Guojun Li,Mingjia Zhang,Chen Zhang,Wangsheng Zheng,Xiangting You,Shule Zhang,Qin Zhong

The lack of compactness in heterojunction interfaces and poor charge separation is a great challenge in developing high-efficiency heterojunction photocatalysts . Herein, a novel Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 -BiPO 4 heterojunction was successfully prepared for the first time by epitaxial growth of BiPO 4 on the surface of Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 nanosheets . The optimized Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 -BiPO 4 -0.5 increased the NO oxidation efficiency to 73.05%, surpassing pure Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 (63.45%) and BiPO 4 (8.35%). Experiments and theoretical calculations indicated that the closely contacted heterointerface between BTO and BPO promoted the generation of the built-in electric field, which led to the formation of the Z- scheme transfer pathway for the photogenerated carriers . Therefore, the separation of photogenerated carriers was facilitated while retaining high redox potential , generating more ·O 2 – and ·OH to participate in NO oxidation. Furthermore, the adsorption of NO and O 2 was enhanced by introducing BiPO 4 , further improving the photocatalytic NO oxidation performance. This work emphasizes the critical role of heterointerface in accelerating charge transfer, providing a basis for the design and construction of tightly contacted heterojunction photocatalysts .

Degradation of Tetracycline Hydrochloride by a Novel CDs/g-C3N4/BiPO4 under Visible-Light Irradiation: Reactivity and Mechanism

Wei Qian,Wangtong Hu,Zhifei Jiang,Yongyi Wu,Zihuan Li,Zenghui Diao,Mingyu Li

In recent years, with the large-scale use of antibiotics, the pollution of antibiotics in the environment has become increasingly serious and has attracted widespread attention. In this study, a novel CDs/g-C3N4/BiPO4(CDBPC) composite was successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method for the removal of the antibiotic tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) in water. The experimental results showed that the synthesized photocatalyst was crystalline rods and cotton balls, accompanied by overlapping layered nanosheet structures, and the specific surface area was as high as 518.50 m2/g. This photocatalyst contains g-C3N4and bismuth phosphate (BiPO4) phases, as well as abundant surface functional groups such as C=N, C-O, and P-O. When the optimal conditions were pH 4, CDBPC dosage of 1 g/L, and TC concentration of 10 mg/L, the degradation rate of TC reached 75.50%. Active species capture experiments showed that the main active species in this photocatalytic system were holes (h+), hydroxyl radicals, and superoxide anion radicals. The reaction mechanism for the removal of TC by CDBPC was also proposed. The removal of TC was mainly achieved by the synergy between the adsorption of CDBPC and the oxidation of both holes and hydroxyl radicals. In this system, TC was adsorbed on the surface of CDBPC, and then the adsorbed TC was degraded into small molecular products by an attack with holes and hydroxyl radicals and finally mineralized into carbon dioxide and water. This study indicated that this novel photocatalyst CDBPC has a huge potential for antibiotic removal, which provides a new strategy for antibiotic treatment of wastewater. Keywords:carbon dots;photocatalysis;graphitic carbon nitride;bismuth phosphate;tetracycline hydrochloride

Graphene-like boron nitride modified bismuth phosphate materials for boosting photocatalytic degradation of enrofloxacin

Zhigang Chen,Xiaoliu Chen,Jun Di,Yiling Liu,Sheng Yin,Jiexiang Xia,Huaming Li

A novel graphene-like BN modified BiPO 4 material was prepared for the first time via a simple solvothermal process with the assistance of reactable ionic liquid 1-decyl-3-methylimidazolium dihydrogen phosphate ([Omim]H 2 PO 4 ). The as-prepared photocatalyst was characterized by XRD, FT-IR, Raman, XPS, TEM, DRS, BET, PL, EIS and ESR to investigate the structure, morphology, optical property, surface area, electrical property and active species. The photocatalytic activities of graphene-like BN/BiPO 4 materials were evaluated by the degradation of antibiotic enrofloxacin (ENR) under UV light irradiation and the 1   wt% graphene-like BN/BiPO 4 displayed the best activity among the BN/BiPO 4 composites. The enhanced photocatalytic activity for the removal of enrofloxacin was attributed to higher separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, and the generated more O 2 − and OH radicals when the BN was modified on BiPO 4 . Moreover, a probable degradation mechanism was proposed for the improved photocatalytic activity of BN modified BiPO 4 .

Surface deposition of Ag/Ag3VO4 on rod-like BiPO4 to construct plasmon-induced heterostructures with ameliorated photocatalytic performance

Hongjun Fang,Yusong Pan,Haixian Yan,Linfeng Xu,Chengling Pan

Novel plasmonic photocatalysts have been extensively investigated because of their advantages in efficient light absorption and surface plasmon resonance effect (SPR). Herein, plasmon-induced BiPO 4 /Ag/Ag 3 VO 4 heterostructures were constructed by in-situ partially reduction along with hydrothermal approach. Photo-degradation results revealed that BiPO 4 /Ag/Ag 3 VO 4 -1.2 (abbreviation as Bi/Ag-1.2) product presented a significant enhancement of photoactivity for Methyl orange-MO, Congo red-CR and tetracycline-TC degradation under visible light irradiation, which was higher than that of pristine BiPO 4 and Ag/Ag 3 VO 4 , respectively. Moreover, this excellent performance of Bi/Ag-1.2 was mainly ascribed to the synergistic effect consisting of intimate heterostructure between BiPO 4 and Ag/Ag 3 VO 4 and SPR effect of Ag, thus ensuring an accelerated separation and transfer of photo-generated carriers and promoting the absorbance of visible light. The trapping test and electron spin resonance further demonstrated that h + and ·O 2 − species are the vital active species in the photocatalytic reaction. Meanwhile, a plausible photocatalytic mechanism induced by plasmon-based heterojunctions was systematically proposed.

1D Bi Ribbon/[PO4] Synergy-Driven Bismuth Phosphates for Ultraviolet Nonlinear Optical Crystals with Large SHG and Birefringence

Lei Wu,Xudong Leng,Bao Jiang,Xueyin Fu,Yi Huang,Xue Yu,Qun Jing,Zhaohui Chen

By leveraging second-harmonic generation (SHG) capabilities, ultraviolet (UV) nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals can efficiently produce UV coherent light and are essential components for advancing UV solid-state laser systems. Herein, two new bismuth phosphates, Rb1.32Bi3.56P2O11 (I) and K1.08Bi3.64P2O11 (II), were synthesized via a high-temperature melt method. Of them, Rb1.32Bi3.56P2O11 exhibits a significant phase-matching SHG response (2.8 × KDP) and large birefringence (0.062 @ 532 nm, 0.053@1064 nm), along with an expanded UV transmission window. Moreover, theoretical analyses revealed that the optimized optical polarizability of Rb1.32Bi3.56P2O11 primarily arises from the cooperative effects of the one-dimensional (1D) polycationic Bi(2)Bi(2)×Bi(1)Bi(1)×Bi(1)Bi(1)×Bi(2)Bi(2) ribbons and [PO4] tetrahedron. We believe the work will provide a valuable strategy to design UV NLO materials with good performances.
