In this study, an ionogel electrolyte (PAIM-X) consisting of 1-vinyl-3-methylimidazole bis (trifluoromethyl sulfonyl) imide ([VMIM][TFSI]), Polyacrylamide (PAAm), and MXene were prepared. The conductivity of PAIM-X and integral area of the voltammetric curve of the supercapacitor (PAIMSC) were improved by adding MXene. The addition of [VMIM][TFSI] enhanced the conductivity and applicable temperature of the ionogel electrolyte. At 90 °C, the conductivity of PAIM-4 can reach 36.4 mS/cm. In addition, spherical polyaniline with good electrochemical properties was synthesized and coated on graphite paper as an active substance. An all-solid-state supercapacitor was composed of PAIM-4, polyaniline electrode with 1.2 V potential window, pseudo-capacitors and high quality capacitors. The solvent 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis (trifluoromethyl sulfonyl imide) ([EMIM][TFSI]) and methanesulfonic acid (MSA) were introduced into the ionogel to promote the redox reaction of polyaniline (PANI). The mass specific capacitance of PAIMSC was 204.6 F/g and its energy density could reach 40.92 Wh/kg, which shows great potential for practical application at high temperature. The device had good rate performance and cycle performance, and its capacitance retention rate was still 91.56% after 10,000 cycles. In addition, the supercapacitor can work within the temperature range of −20 °C to 90 °C. These excellent electrochemical properties indicate that PAAm/IL/Mxene-X has broad application space and prospect. Keywords:ionogel;Mxene;high temperature;flexible supercapacitors

Ionogels are promising material candidates for ionotronics due to their excellent ionic conductivity, stretchability, and thermal stability. However, it is challenging to develop 3D printable ionogels with both excellent electrical and mechanical properties. Here, we report a highly conductive and stretchable nanostructured (CSN) ionogel for 3D printing ionotronic sensors. We propose the photopolymerization-induced microphase separation strategy to prepare the CSN ionogels comprising continuous conducting nanochannels intertwined with cross-linked polymeric framework. The resultant CSN ionogels simultaneously achieves high ionic conductivity (over 3 S m −1 ), high stretchability (over 1500%), low degree of hysteresis (0.4% at 50% strain), wide-temperature-range thermostability (−72 to 250 °C). Moreover, its high compatible with DLP 3D printing enables the fabrication of complex ionogel micro-architectures with high resolution (up to 5 μm), which allows us to manufacture capacitive sensors with superior sensing performances. The proposed CSN ionogel paves an efficient way to manufacture the next-generation capacitive sensors with enhanced performance.

For thousands of years, wood has been utilized as a natural, abundant, and sustainable material for structural construction and furniture. To enhance its value, we have developed a simple process that can directly convert low-value wood (including cracked wood, chips, shives, and other wood residues) into high-performance all-cellulose ionogels. This process involves delignification, in situ dissolution of cellulose, and self-assembly of molecular cellulose chains. The resulting ionogel exhibits excellent properties such as high ion conductivity (∼60 mS/cm), mechanical strength (∼6 MPa), and self-healing capability (∼10 min). Notably, it also demonstrates exceptional freeze tolerance, withstanding temperatures as low as −50 °C while maintaining high ion conductivity (∼6.4 mS/cm). The ionogel is a versatile substrate for flexible electronic circuits. We have developed a sensor utilizing this ionogel that is breathable, flexible, and highly responsive to temperature, humidity, and strain. Furthermore, we have used it as a gel electrolyte to create supercapacitors with exceptional performance even in low-temperature conditions. The ionic liquid can be reused, with an all-cellulose framework that breaks down naturally in moist soil within 15 days. This sustainable method of producing high-performance ionogels from low-value wood has immense potential in shaping the next generation of soft, intelligent devices.

Carbon dots, the new member of carbon materials, have attracted much attention for their alluring optical properties showing intense blue and green emission. Herein, carbon dots were synthesized by the hydrothermal method. Eu3+ β-diketonate complexes with characteristic emission were selected as the lanthanide resource. Silica-based ionogels were prepared by a sol–gel route, the ionic liquids in the ionogels were extracted with acetonitrile, and nano-sized pores among the ionogels were obtained. The carbon dots and Eu3+ complexes were homogeneously entrapped in the ionogels without any devitrification by doping the ionic liquid solution in the silica network of the ionogels. The obtained Eu3+-doped ionogel-functionalized carbon dot monoliths are transparent and uniform with promoted mechanical properties and stability. The carbon dots were confined in the nano-sized pores among the ionogels, resulting in there being a certain distance between the carbon dots, as well as preventing them from aggregating, which contributed to a high photoluminescence. The monoliths emit bright white photoluminescence under UV excitation after various studies of the proportion of carbon dots and Eu3+ complexes. Eu3+-doped ionogel-functionalized carbon dot monoliths provide new potential for applications of carbon nanoparticles in optoelectronic devices.

Solvents within gels enhance the mobility of polymer chain segments while concurrently diminishing interchain interactions, thereby facilitating the ductility of glassy polymers at the cost of their mechanical strength. Here, we develop a solvent toughening strategy for the preparation of highly compressible and high-strength ionogels in the glassy state. This approach leverages the synergistic effects of the slow dissociation-shift kinetics of solvent ionic liquids and polymer crystallization. Ionogels exhibit an ultimate compressive stress of 2.3 GPa (at 98% compressive strain), toughness of 1219.3 MJ m−3, and energy dissipation rate of 81.9% (at 70% compression strain). The highly interacting ionic bonds of solvent and the fast crystallization of polymers under load toughen the ionogels and confer impact hardening and efficient energy dissipation behavior under fast impact. A 500-μm-thick ionogel coating can protect fragile items, such as glass, from impact damage. Ionogels, renowned for their impact resistance, hold promise for various applications across industries including human body implants, equipment, transportation, and aerospace.

It is urgently needed to develop highly efficient and selective adsorbents for enrichment and separation of Re(VII) from Mo(VI) to obtain metallic rhenium. By tuning cross-link of chitosan, ionic gel capsules (CSN) were prepared, which had a core-shell structure and wrapped N263 (methyl trioctyl ammonium chloride) as an extractant. After being characterized, the CSN capsules were used as a green adsorbent for separation of ReO 4 − from MoO 4 2− . It was found that the gel yielded good adsorption capacities for Re(VII) in a wide pH range from pH 2 to 12. The adsorption of Re(VII) on the gel followed the Langmuir model, exhibiting a maximum adsorption capacity of 222 mg g −1 for Re. The adsorbent showed good adsorption capacities for Mo(VI) at pH < 2, but little at pH > 3.5. Therefore, the enrichment and separation of Re(VII) from Mo(VI) could be easily achieved by using the gel adsorbent in a wide pH range from 4 to 12, showing a separation factor β Re/Mo with values of 10 3 –5 × 10 4 . A mechanism was proposed for the selective adsorption of Re(VII). The extractant N263 wrapped in the capsule core provides excellent extractive adsorption ability for Re(VII) through ion association extraction, generating ion association complex R 4 N + ∙ReO 4 − in the adsorbent. The gel shell was composed of cross-linked chitosan induced by sodium tripolyphosphate, and functioned as a blocking layer for the adsorption of Mo(VI), being possibly related to a special interaction between Mo and P as observed in the formation of phosphorus molybdenum heteropolyacid and/or the crosslinking with Mo and chitosan. The CSN gel was successfully applied to separate ReO 4 − from a practical alkaline solution.

A novel chemical cross-linked ionogels with excellent self-healability, stretchability, and reprocessability based on gelatin have been synthesized via the Schiff base reaction in ionic liquid of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate (EMIMAc). Rheological measurements revealed that the plateaus modulus in storage modulus increases with increase in the content of gelatin. These ionogels displayed good thermal mechanical stability, and the chemical networks were not destroyed even at temperature up to 140 °C. High stretchability was obtained and the elongation at break for the as-prepared ionogel could even reach 368.6%. Importantly, the prepared ionogels showed excellent self-healability and reprocessability. Remarkably, the ionogels exhibited superior ionic conductivity and room temperature ionic conductivity was higher than 1.0 × 10 −3 S/cm. Furthermore, supercapacitors with this ionogel electrolyte showed temperature-dependent specific capacitance and remarkable flexible performance. Therefore, the as-prepared self-healable and reprocessable ionogels from the nature of gelatin, with highly ionic conductivity and stretchability, could be considered an excellent electrolyte candidate for various next-generation stretchable electronics.

Flexible ionic thermoelectric materials with large thermopowers show great promise for ultrasensitive thermal detection in wearable devices . Here large and tunable p- and n-type thermopowers are reported in stretchable and self-healing ionogels made of a fluorocarbon elastomer poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP), an ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (EMIMTFSI) and a salt acting as the thermopower regulator. Particularly, a self-healing n-type ionic thermoelectric material is developed for the first time. The thermopower of the resultant ionogels varies from + 30 mV K −1 to − 21 mV K −1 at 90% relative humidity. Meanwhile, the ionogels exhibit excellent stretchability up to 1700% and appropriate Young’s modulus of around 0.26 MPa. Both the mechanical and thermoelectric properties can self-heal spontaneously after damage. Taking advantage of the large p and n-type thermopowers, the stretchable self-healing ionogels are integrated as a flexible thermoelectric detector with 10 pairs of p- and n-type legs on copper electrodes, showing a total thermopower of 0.25 V K −1 operating with a low temperature difference of 1–2 K.

Ionogels are extremely soft ionic materials that can undergo large deformation while maintaining their structural and functional integrity. Ductile ionogels can absorb energy and resist fracture under external load, making them an ideal candidate for wearable electronics, soft robotics, and protective gear. However, developing high-modulus ionogels with extreme toughness remains challenging. Here, a facile one-step photopolymerization approach to construct an acrylic acid (AA)-2-hydroxyethylacrylate (HEA)-choline chloride (ChCl) eutectogel (AHCE) with ultrahigh modulus and toughness is reported. With rich hydrogen bonding crosslinks and phase segregation, this gel has a 99.1 MPa Young's modulus and a 70.6 MJ m −3 toughness along with 511.4% elongation, which can lift 12 000 times its weight. These features provide extreme damage resistance and electrical healing ability, offering it a protective and strain-sensitive coating to innovate anticutting fabric with motion detection for human healthcare. The work provides an effective strategy to construct robust ionogel materials and smart wearable electronics for intelligent life.

Ionogel has gained attention as a promising material for flexible electronic skin (e-skin), due to its exceptional conductivity, compositional stability, and biocompatibility. Nevertheless, establishing a seamless interface between ionogel and human skin remains a significant challenge. This study presents the design and fabrication of a nanonet-supported ionogel with a thickness of ≈16 µm, marking it the thinnest ionogel reported to date. This ultrathin ionogel exhibits remarkable toughness (5.51 MJ m − 3 ), a broad strain range (0–375%), and impressive fatigue resistance, enduring over 3000 cycles. Additionally, it offers excellent water resistance and a high water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), supporting perspiration and enhancing skin breathability. Moreover, the ultrathin ionogel has potential as a carrier in transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS), highlighting its suitability for biomedical applications. Wearable devices incorporating this ultrathin ionogel facilitate continuous, sensitive, and highly accurate monitoring of physiological signals, positioning it as a promising material for future flexible e-skin material.

This study describes a simple yet efficient approach for the preparation of an ionic gel that is also elastomeric in its solid-state bulk form. A series of poly(2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate-co-lauryl methacrylate) P(DMAEMA-co-LMA) copolymers were synthesized first by radical polymerization. Quaternization of the PDMAEMA component in tetrahydrofuran enables the formation of supramolecular network, giving rise to an ion gel. An elastomer with an elongation at break of over 600% was obtained from the gel. The elastomer, connected by supramolecular ionic cross-links, is solvoplastic in certain solvents. The simple yet efficient approach of the formation of ion-gel and the dried elastomer allows fast preparation of both gel-like and solid-state elastic materials for various applications where recyclability is required.

Conductive gels are promising soft ionic conductors for stretchable and flexible electronics. However, the integration of multiple functions into one gel remains a great challenge, as the tailoring of these properties is mutually exclusive. In this paper, a simple photopolymerization method is designed to prepare polyacrylic acid/ionic liquid /hydroxypropyl cellulose (PIH) ionogels, which have high transparency (89 %), and superior electrical conductivity (0.379 mS/cm). Owing to the dynamic and reversible nature between the polymer chains, the ionogel possesses good self-healing capability (79.6 %) and self-adhesive properties (242.32–742.76 kPa, typical substrate at room temperature). At the same time, the excellent chemical stability of ionic liquids ensures that PIH ionogels still have good temperature sensitivity (-30 ∼ 110 °C) in extremely harsh environments. Wearable strain sensors based on PIH ionogels can sensitively detect and distinguish body movements, such as limb bending, pronunciation, and pulse. When PIH ionogels are used as a temperature sensor, a cryptographic device with a temperature alarm and an externally stimulated UV switch is designed by using the excellent transparency and temperature response of PIH ionogels. It is believed that the designed ionogel will show great prospects in wearable devices and flexible encryption.
