Yolk-shell structure materials with the light weight, excellent impedance matching and electromagnetic wave (EMW) loss ability were widely used in the field of absorbing materials. However, the previous researches on this kind of structure always focused on the comparison between solid structure and empty structure. Different from previous studies, in this paper, the effect of yolk-shell structure with different air layer thickness on EMW absorption was studied for the first time. Graphene oxide (GO) supported yolk-shell ZnS/Ni 3 S 4 absorbers with adjustable air layer were prepared by a simple two-step hydrothermal method. Through the equivalence of RLC resonant circuit and the elimination of the influence of polarization relaxation and conduction loss, it was found that yolk-shell structure with different air layer thickness will resonate with EMW of different frequencies, thus increasing the loss capacity of materials to EMW of this frequency. At the same time, Compared with the solid structure, the yolk-shell structure can not only make the material lighter, but also cause multiple reflections and scattering of EMW. Noteworthy, yolk-shell structure composite material exhibits the maximum reflection loss (RL) of −63.0 dB at 4.8 GHz and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 4.1 GHz at a thickness of 1.6 mm. This research provides an idea and basis for the design of absorbing materials that respond to different frequency EMW.

Scale deposition and metal corrosion, especially in the petroleum industry , have always been serious issues that seriously affect economic efficiency and safety. However, conventional anti-scaling strategies including mechanical descaling and chemical detergents are energy-consuming and environmentally damaging, which can't achieve efficient and long-term protection. Based on mechanical descaling and chemical detergents, and anti-corrosion strategies based on filler are inadequate to realize efficient protection. Herein, this work reports a novel UV-curable polymer coating with long-term anti-scaling and anti-corrosion properties. The excellent anti-scaling capability was achieved by inhibiting interfacial nucleation and reducing interfacial adhesion work of scaling products. Significantly, the anti-scaling capability of the designed coating mainly originates from two aspects: inhibiting interfacial nucleation and reducing interfacial adhesion work of scaling. Compared with pure polyurethane acrylic coating (0 % FGSS), the 20 % FGSS coating shows significantly improved scaling repellence even after a 240 h dynamic scaling test while maintaining a fairly low theoretical adhesion work (≈0.1 mN/m). This outstanding anti-corrosion capability of the FGSS coating mainly originates from two aspects: the physical barrier effect of the air layer and low surface energy resistance barriers with dynamic FGSS brushes. The physical barrier effect of the air layer and the low surface energy resistance barriers also lead to outstanding anti-corrosion property (with the |Z| 0.01 Hz value maintained at 10 8 Ω·cm 2 ). This study presents a simple and effective design and fabricated strategy, paving a new pathway for developing UV-cured coatings with unique anti-corrosion and anti-scaling properties. This facile and effective UV-curable polymer coating shows great potential in metal protection and paves a new pathway for the development of long-term functional protection coatings.

Passive cooling technologies are one of the promising solutions to the global energy crisis due to no consumption of fossil fuels during operation. However, the existing radiative and evaporative coolers still have problems achieving daytime subambient cooling while maintaining evaporation over the long term. Here, we propose a self-sustained and insulated radiative/evaporative cooler (SIREC), which consists of a porous polyethylene film (P-PE) at the top, an air layer in the middle, and poly(vinyl alcohol) hydrogel with lithium bromide (PLH) at the bottom. In particular, the P-PE shows high solar reflectance (R̅solar = 0.91) and long-wave infrared transmittance (τ̅LWIR = 0.92), which reflects sunlight while enhancing the direct radiative heat transfer between outer space and PLH (ε̅LWIR = 0.96) for sky radiative cooling. In addition, the desirable vapor permeability (579 s m–1) of the P-PE also results in good compatibility with PLH for evaporative cooling (EC). Moreover, the PLH’s ability to harvest atmospheric water at night provides self-sustainment for daytime EC. The air layer between P-PE and PLH further enhances the subambient cooling performance of the SIREC. These findings indicate promising prospects for the integration of passive cooling technologies.

The superhydrophobic surfaces in harsh water environments (such as deep sea or extreme rainstorms) often suffer from irreversible air layer collapse or structural damage. However, the rough micro/nano-structures dominating superhydrophobicity are usually loose and fragile, which generate insufficient anti-wetting capillary pressure to deal with harsh water environments. Here, an electrostatic-field-assisted aerosolization deposition (EFAAD) method was proposed to fabricate a densified superhydrophobic surface featuring nonporous microlevel protrusion with nanoscale secondary modification. The mechanism of controllable deposition was investigated and spraying parameter configuration was optimized. The EFAAD coating showed exciting tolerance of high-speed jet impact (85.4 m/s, Weber number of 202588), ultrasonic micro jet impact (25 min), and hydrostatic pressure (5 MPa) for the coordinated structural robustness and air layer stability. Even though the superhydrophobicity of EFAAD coating was compromised under extreme conditions, the water film could dewet spontaneously induced by any bubble with radium than 130 μm. Moreover, the EFAAD coating has also proved comprehensive tolerance to tape peeling (more than 400 cycles), UV irradiation, and severe solution corrosion, exhibiting particularly promising for various high-water-pressure applications.
