The convenient detection of ethyl carbamate (EC) still faces some challenges due to certain interfering substances in liquor. Herein, the peroxidase-mimic activity of V 6 O 13 nanobelts was inhibited by EC1–34 aptamer, and a novel rapid method for EC detection was established using EC1–34 aptamer as a specific recognition molecule. The composite probe consisting of V 6 O 13 nanobelts and EC1–34 aptamer was immobilized on the paper to construct a colorimetric nanozyme sheet. The presence of EC1–34 aptamer would effectively inhibit the peroxidase-mimic activity of V 6 O 13 nanobelts, making the colorimetric nanozyme sheet exhibit light blue or even colorless. Once the EC was added to nanozyme sheet, the EC1–34 preferentially bound to EC molecules, restoring the peroxidase-like activity of V 6 O 13 nanobelts. The degree of the blue-gray change of the constructed colorimetric nanozyme sheets was positively correlated with the EC concentration. Moreover, a smartphone was used to assist in obtaining the image data and then drawing a standard curve. The visual limit of detection of the rapid colorimetric nanozyme sheets was 20 μg·L −1 , and the limit of detection (LOD) was calculated as 14.17 μg·L −1 . The novel rapid detection nanozyme sheets constructed in this study can be generally applied in detecting EC in liquor.

Graphical A Ru-ZIF-8 nanozyme with both esterase like and peroxidase like activities were prepared for acetylcholine (ACh) detection. On the basis of the Ru-ZIF-8 nanozyme, a portable nanozyme strip was developed as a novel biosensor for detecting ACh, which was conducive to promoting the development of multiple enzyme cascade assays. In the present study, the incorporation of Ru into the framework of ZIF-8 resulted in that a Ru-ZIF-8 nanozyme with both esterase-like activity and peroxidase-like activity. Owing to the dual nanozymatic activities of Ru-ZIF-8 nanozyme, the acetylcholine (ACh) detection process utilized only one natural enzyme (choline oxidase), which greatly simplified the detection procedure. In the detection process, nanozyme Ru-ZIF-8 showed esterase-like activity to catalyze the hydrolysis of ACh to choline. Then the generated choline was oxidized by choline oxidase to generate H 2 O 2 . Finally, Ru-ZIF-8 with peroxidase-like activity was used to catalyze H 2 O 2 to oxidize 2,2′-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazo-line-6-sulfonic acid) ammonium salt with a color change. As a result, the linear range for ACh was from 0.01 μM-22 μM with the detection limit (DL) of 5.5 nM. In addition, Ru-ZIF-8 was utilized to fabricate a portable detection test strip. Our work provided a simple, portable, low-cost, highly sensitive and selective assay for the detection of ACh, which paved the way for the development of multi enzyme cascade assays.

The rapid and onsite detection of glyphosate herbicides in agricultural products is still a challenge. Herein, a novel colorimetric nanozyme sheet for the rapid detection of glyphosate has been successfully prepared through the physical adsorption of porous Co3O4 nanoplates on a polyester fiber membrane. Glyphosate can specifically inhibit the peroxidase-mimicking catalytic activity of porous Co3O4 nanoplates, thereby the visual detection of glyphosate can be realized by distinguishing the change in the color intensity of the established nanozyme sheet. The prepared nanozyme sheet has good sensitivity and selectivity, with a detection limit of 0.175 mg·kg–1 for glyphosate detection just by the naked eyes. It can effectively detect glyphosate within 10 min, and the color spots can maintain more than 20 min. The nanozyme sheet is not easily affected by the external environment in detection and storage. The merits of the nanozyme sheet facilitate its practical application in the large-scale preliminary screening of glyphosate residues in agricultural products.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has created a huge demand for sensitive and rapid detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The current gold standard for SARS-CoV-2 detection is reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)-based nucleic acid amplification. However, RT-PCR is time consuming and requires specialists and large instruments that are unattainable for point-of-care testing (POCT). To develop POCT for SARS-CoV-2, we combined recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) and FeS 2 nanozyme strips to achieve facile nucleic acid amplification and subsequent colorimetric signal enhancement based on the high peroxidase-like activity of the FeS 2 nanozymes. This method showed a nucleic acid limit of detection (LOD) for SARS-CoV-2 of 200 copies/mL, close to that of RT-PCR. The unique catalytic properties of the FeS 2 nanozymes enabled the nanozyme-strip to amplify colorimetric signals via the nontoxic 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) substrate. Importantly, the detection of clinical samples of human papilloma virus type 16 (HPV-16) showed 100% agreement with previous RT-PCR results, highlighting the versatility and reliability of this method. Our findings suggest that nanozyme-based nucleic acid detection has great potential in the development of POCT diagnosis for COVID-19 and other viral infections.
