Multifunctional polymer-based composites with enhanced thermal conductivity are indispensable for achieving advancements in both scientific research and technological innovation. This paper reports a new type of polybenzoxazine/graphene (PBZ/GN) thermal conductive composite. Specifically, GN forms a continuous thermal conductive network by coating resin monomer powder and then undergoing hot-pressing curing. Upon incorporating 10 wt% GN, the PBZ composite exhibited distinct anisotropic thermal conductivities of 0.82 W/m K in the through-plane direction and 1.96 W/m K along the in-plane orientation. Compared with pure PBZ, these values represent increases of 1.6- and 5.3-fold, respectively. The composite material exhibits enhanced thermal stability as GN content increases. However, the mechanical properties exhibit an initial increase followed by a decrease. Notably, with the addition of 2 wt% GN, the tensile strength and flexural strength increase by 75.4% and 41%, respectively. This composite material can be prepared in a simple and highly efficient manner. Consequently, this advancement broadens the applicability of benzoxazine resins, especially in fields requiring high thermal stability and heat dissipation. Highlights A graphene network was designed to enhance composite properties. Enhanced thermomechanical properties achieved through graphene-induced thermal conduction networks. Peak strength gains (75.4% tensile/41% flexural) achieved with adding 2 wt.% graphene.
An energy storage system based on a battery-type electrode and a capacitive electrode as a hybrid supercapacitor offers a promising way to construct devices with advantages of both rechargeable batteries and carbon-based supercapacitors. NiCoAl-LDH nanosheets uniformly grow onto micron-scaled MXene sheets to form a NiCoAl-LDH/V4C3Tx heterostructure with three-dimensional interconnected porous network microstructures by a hydrothermal method. NiCoAl-LDH/V4C3Tx composite electrodes show an excellent specific capacity of 627 C g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1 in 1 M KOH. Especially, the NiCoAl-LDH/V4C3Tx electrodes exhibit a specific capacity of 300 C g−1 even at a high current density of 20 A g−1 in 1 M KOH, showing excellent rate performance. Hybrid supercapacitors, constructed with NiCoAl-LDH/V4C3Tx as the battery-type electrode and activated carbon (AC) as the capacitive electrode, show superior energy densities of 71.7 and 45.0 W h kg−1 at power densities of 830 and 20 000 W kg−1 in 1 M KOH, respectively. The excellent capacity retention rate is 98% for the hybrid device after 10 000 cycles at 20 A g−1 in 1 M KOH. The NiCoAl-LDH/V4C3Tx heterostructures can be used as promising electrode materials for low-cost hybrid supercapacitor devices.

With the increasing development of multifunction liquid crystal displays (LCDs), multifunction optical diffusers have attracted more attention. In this work, switchable optical diffusers based on the transient polymer balls-networks in polymer/nematic liquid crystal composite films have been prepared and investigated, and the effects of thiol content, curing time, LC content and photo-initiator content on the polymer microstructures and optical properties of optical diffusers are systematically studied. An optical diffuser with the transient polymer balls-networks microstructure has achieved the high transmission (96.42%), high haze (90.49%), excellent optical diffusing ability and wide viewing angle of 150° (from −75° to 75°) on its off state. By the application of electric field of 40.0 voltage, the viewing angle of the optical diffuser turns to be narrower (from −60° to 60°), which gives great applications in tunable viewing angle devices and other electric optical devices.
