The polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) mesh-based polysulfone (PSF)-zirconia (ZrO 2 ) composite diaphragm represents a new type of high-performance diaphragm for alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production, offering low area resistance and high chemical stability. In this study, composite diaphragms with excellent performance are prepared using preheated compression molding, phase inversion precipitation, and vacuum stirring degassing techniques. The comprehensive performance of the prepared diaphragm is compared to that of the commercial Zirfon® diaphragm. The results indicate that the prepared composite diaphragm, with a thickness of 140 μm, exhibits excellent performance. Compared to the Zirfon® UTP 220 diaphragm, the ultra-thin composite diaphragm demonstrates a reduction in area resistance from 0.19 Ω cm 2 to 0.1 Ω cm 2 , an increase in bubble point pressure from 2.31 bar to 2.46 bar, and a voltage of 1.84 V at 1000 mA cm −2 . The incorporation of the PPS mesh resulted in a substantial improvement in tensile strength. The application of an ultra-thin composite diaphragm based on PPS mesh can significantly enhance the efficiency of hydrogen production via alkaline water electrolysis.

Radioisotope leaking from nuclear waste has become an intractable problem due to its gamma radiation and strong water solubility. In this work, a novel porous ZnFC-PA/PSF composite sphere was fabricated by immobilization of ferrocyanides modified zinc phytate into polysulfone (PSF) substrate for the treatment of Cs-contaminated water. The maximum adsorption capacity of ZnFC-PA/PSF was 305.38 mg/g, and the removal efficiency of Cs + was reached 94.27% within 2 hr. The ZnFC-PA/PSF presented favorable stability with negligible dissolution loss of Zn 2+ and Fe 2+ (< 2%). The ZnFC-PA/PSF achieved high-selectivity towards Cs + ( K d = 2.24×10 4 mL/g) even in actual geothermal water. The adsorption mechanism was inferred to be the ion-exchange between Cs + and K + . What's more, ZnFC-PA/PSF worked well in the fixed-bed adsorption ( E = 91.92%), indicating the application potential for the hazardous Cs + removal from wastewater.
Nanofiltration process has been perceived as one of the promising approaches in desalination and separation of monovalent/divalent salts. Despite significant progresses has been made in permeability and salt rejection, the industrial separation for monovalent/divalent salts is limited by the insufficient selectivity for ions with different charges and sizes. This work firstly proposed a porous organic cage supramolecular membrane with topologically structured “window-to-window” channels for the fast transport of monovalent ions and water molecules. Specifically, porous organic cage (RCC3) molecule and nonpolar alkyl of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) were assembled into supramolecular [email protected] through hydrophobic interaction by molecular recognition of polar cavity. Furthermore, terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) was employed as a crosslinker by interfacial polymerization to construct [email protected] supramolecular film onto the surface of polydopamine modified polysulfone (PSf) substrate. The results suggested that [email protected] membrane displayed a high permeability of 13.9 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 , and attractive performance for monovalent/divalent salts separation and small molecule solutions desalination. The salt rejections to Na 2 SO 4 , MgSO 4 , NaCl and MgCl 2 are 98.5%, 90.1%, 19.8% and 12.8%, and the selectivities of NaCl/Na 2 SO 4 and NaCl/MgSO 4 reached 42.6 and 7.8, respectively. Besides, the separation factors for NaCl/medicine and NaCl/dye mixtures are 95.5 of δ NaCl/DG and 76.6 of δ NaCl/CR , respectively. The excellent separation performance of [email protected] supramolecular membrane provides a new idea for developing high-efficiency membranes for monovalent/divalent salts separation.
