Recently, more and more attentions have been focused on the preparation of metal-organic framework (MOF) membranes for gas or liquid separations. However, it is rather difficult to prepare a dense MOF membrane by a direct solvothermal synthesis route because of poor heterogeneous nucleation of MOF on the native ceramic support surface. Chemical modifications or seeds coating are usually carried out to promote nucleation and growth of MOF membranes. In this work, we report the synthesis of ZIF-95 nano-sheets as seeds for secondary growth of highly hydrogen permselective ZIF-95 membranes. Under the action of the vacuum force, the ZIF-95 seeds in the colloidal suspensions are attracted and transported onto the whole area of the support surface continuously and uniformly, thus forming a continuous and uniform ZIF-95 seeding layer, which is helpful to promote the nucleation and growth of ZIF-95 membranes. After solvothermal synthesis at 120 °C for 48 h, a well-intergrown ZIF-95 membrane was formed on the seeding support surface. Attributing to a preferentially affinity to CO 2 and a narrow pore size of ~0.37 nm, the developed ZIF-95 membrane shows high hydrogen permselectivity for the separation H 2 from other large molecules. At 200 °C and 1 bar, the mixture separation factors of H 2 /CO 2 , H 2 /N 2 , and H 2 /CH 4 are 41.6, 36.8, and 40.3, respectively, with H 2 permeances over 1.7 × 10 −7 mol m −2 s −1 ·Pa −1 .

Hydrogen selective metal–organic framework (MOF) membranes with excellent performance are still in high demand. Here, we are developing an anionic MOF material of CPM-5 into a membrane for H2 separation. A well inter-grown CPM-5 membrane is successfully synthesized on a macroporous glass-frit disk by secondary growth assisted with a pre-deposited seed layer. The anionic framework of CPM-5 can interact strongly with CO2, N2 and CH4 rather than H2, shown by the isosteric heats of adsorption in a sequence of CO2 (39.4 kJ mol−1) > N2 (28.4 kJ mol−1) > CH4 (25.1 kJ mol−1) > H2 (6.1 kJ mol−1). The synthesized CPM-5 membrane is investigated for gas separation of H2/CO2, H2/N2 and H2/CH4. The results from binary gas permeation show separation factors of 39.4, 27.3 and 16.7 for H2/CO2, H2/N2 and H2/CH4, respectively; and a H2 permeance of 11.2–12.0 × 10−7 mol m−2 s−1 Pa−1. The selective separation of H2 from CO2, N2 and CH4 is governed by charge-induced adsorption, and verified by the gas adsorption results. The product of separation factor and H2 permeance exceeds the latest upper bound of polymer membranes and surpasses that of most MOF membranes. In addition, the CPM-5 membrane is thermally stable, durable and reproducible, exhibiting great potential for industrial hydrogen recycling.

Chiral organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite films hold significant promise for optoelectronic applications due to their unique optical activity and excellent optoelectronic properties. However, their air and moisture sensitivity necessitates inert atmosphere processing, hindering practical application. In this work, we present a closed acoustofluidic system utilizing surface acoustic wave-based microcentrifugation for the synthesis of high-quality synthesizing (S-MBA)2PbI4 films. By confining both synthesis and film deposition within a sealed chamber, this approach eliminates air exposure, enabling the fabrication of films with enhanced crystallinity and a reduced bandgap of 2.37 eV. The resulting chiral perovskite films exhibit significant circular dichroism, with an asymmetry factor of 9.3×10-4. Furthermore, control over film surface roughness (achieving < 0.6 μm) is demonstrated through modulation of acoustic operation parameters. The cost-effectiveness and versatility of this acoustic microcentrifugation system highlight its potential for advanced film material fabrication.

Introduction The continuous emergence and rapid spread of multidrug-resistant bacteria have accelerated the demand for the discovery of alternative antibiotics. Natural plants contain a variety of antibacterial components, which is an important source for the discovery of antimicrobial agents. Objective To explore the antimicrobial activities and related mechanisms of two lavandulylated flavonoids, sophoraflavanone G and kurarinon in Sophora flavescens against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus . Methods The effects of sophoraflavanone G and kurarinone on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus were comprehensively investigated by a combination of proteomics and metabolomics studies. Bacterial morphology was observed by scanning electron microscopy. Membrane fluidity, membrane potential, and membrane integrity were determined using the fluorescent probes Laurdan, DiSC3(5), and propidium iodide, respectively. Adenosine triphosphate and reactive oxygen species levels were determined using the adenosine triphosphate kit and reactive oxygen species kit, respectively. The affinity activity of sophoraflavanone G to the cell membrane was determined by isothermal titration calorimetry assays. Results Sophoraflavanone G and kurarinone showed significant antibacterial activity and anti-multidrug resistance properties. Mechanistic studies mainly showed that they could target the bacterial membrane and cause the destruction of the membrane integrity and biosynthesis. They could inhibit cell wall synthesis, induce hydrolysis and prevent bacteria from synthesizing biofilms. In addition, they can interfere with the energy metabolism of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and disrupt the normal physiological activities of the bacteria. In vivo studies have shown that they can significantly improve wound infection and promote wound healing. Conclusion Kurarinone and sophoraflavanone G showed promising antimicrobial properties against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus , suggesting that they may be potential candidates for the development of new antibiotic agents against multidrug-resistant bacteria.
