Abstract N -Aryl anthranilic acid drugs have been synthesized by a simple, environmentally friendly, low-cost, and high-yielding modified Ullmann coupling reaction protocol using potassium 2-bromobenzoate, substituted anilines, and copper acetate in tetrabutylphosphonium chloride ([TBP]Cl) ionic liquid. The optimal conditions have been found and applied to the synthesis of N -aryl anthranilic acid drugs at 170°C. Mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, and proton nuclear magnetic resonance were used to describe the structure of the products. Copper(I) complex catalyst was used as a starting catalyst for the Ullmann reaction because of the good fluidity and homogeneity in [TBP]Cl ionic liquid. Meclofenamic, mefenamic, clofenamic, and flufenamic acids were synthesized efficiently using the proposed general procedure. The distinct advantages of the described protocol are operational simplicity, cleaner reaction, high selectivity, excellent yield, rapid conversion, easy preparation, and the use of a low-cost catalyst.

Contrast to the general rare earth ores from Jiangxi province, rare earth ores from Hunan province exhibit unique clay compositions, such as higher halloysite and kaolinite content, leading to the stronger swelling and different leaching behavior compared to Jiangxi ores. To promote the green and efficient exploitation of ion-adsorption rare earth ores, potassium benzoate (C 6 H 5 COOK) was chosen as a novel swelling inhibitor adding to MgSO 4 leaching solution to investigate its dual role in suppressing clay swelling and enhancing permeability in this study. Swelling tests, mud ball disintegration, sedimentation, and column leaching experiments were conducted to evaluate its effects on the structural stability and permeability of kaolinite, halloysite and rare earth ores, respectively. Experimental results showed that potassium benzoate significantly inhibited clay swelling during 72 h tested time and improved solution percolation between particles. The swelling rate decreased from 6.401% to 2.251%, corresponding to an inhibition rate of 64.83%, and a rare earth leaching recovery of 97.60% were achieved, demonstrating well performance in both structural stabilization and extraction efficiency. From fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric (TG) mechanism analysis, potassium ions from potassium benzoate replaced interlayer cations via ion exchange, weakening the hydration film and suppressing interlayer expansion. Meanwhile, benzoate anions adsorbed onto mineral surfaces, forming a hydrophobic layer that stabilized the structure and promoted infiltration.

For the selective oxidation of toluene to benzaldehyde, the biggest challenge is to prevent the further oxidation of benzaldehyde as toluene conversion increases. Using benzyl benzoate as the solvent and adding benzoate to adjust the alkalinity of the system, the formation of the benzoyl radical can be well inhibited, but the oxidation of toluene is weakened. The decomposition of benzyl benzoate to benzaldehyde can activate the reaction at the initial stage, and the negative influence of alkalinity is avoided to some extent. Therefore, by using atmospheric air as an oxidant, a high selectivity and yield of benzaldehyde can be obtained in a benzyl benzoate catalytic system with alkali as an additive. The mechanism of alkaline regulation and selective oxidation of toluene was investigated by in situ infrared (IR) spectroscopy experiments. The benzaldehyde capacity is defined to characterize the tolerance of benzaldehyde in the system. Catalysts and alkaline regulators can be easily reused with high-boiling solvents, making it a convenient process for product separation and catalyst–alkaline solvent recycling.

Multifunctional material for simultaneous pollutants removal and nutrient release is a novel, economical, and sustainable strategy to reuse agricultural wastewater and improve crop growth. Herein, we synthesized a multifunctional porous carbon by using β-cyclodextrin MOF (β-CD MOF) both as precursor and potassium source. The obtained carbon material (β-CD MOF-NPC) was equipped with microporous structure, large surface areas, and rich potassium element content, as determined by comprehensive characterization results. The batch adsorption experiments indicated β-CD MOF-NPC possessed efficient adsorptive removal ability of four amide herbicides from water, which might be through π–π interaction, hydrogen bonding, and electrostatic interaction. Besides, the β-CD MOF-NPC could effectively contribute to the growth of rice seedlings cultured in herbicide-contaminated wastewater by simultaneous adsorption of herbicides and release of potassium ions in the pot experiments. This study indicated β-CD MOF-NPC integrated the function of adsorbent and fertilizer, which is a promising material for sustainable and economical agriculture.

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) offer catalytic promise due to their diverse atomic configurations. However, rationally engineering their composition and understanding synergistic effects within these complex multi-elemental systems remain significant challenges. To address this, we herein investigated an integrated system for H 2 production, coupling the alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with the glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR). The GOR serves as an anodic replacement for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), enabling both efficient H 2 generation and effective glycerol-to-formate conversion. The carbon nanofiber-supported FeCoNiCrM (M: Pt, Pd, Ir) HEA nanoparticles (FeCoNiCrM/CNFs) were synthesized as model catalysts. The FeCoNiCrIr/CNFs demonstrated exceptional HER performance, achieving a low overpotential of 42 mV at 10 mA cm −2 and remarkable durability. In situ electrochemical Raman characterization further elucidated the specific functions of various active sites during HER process. Capitalizing on their multi-site characteristics, the FeCoNiCrIr/CNFs also exhibited a significantly lower anodic potential of 1.26 V vs. RHE for the GOR compared to OER, with formate identified as the dominant product at a high faradaic efficiency (FE FA ) of 86.2 %. The high activities observed for both HER and GOR motivated the construction of an integrated HER || GOR system, which achieved a low cell voltage of 1.32 V at 10 mA cm −2 . This work offers valuable insights for the rational composition engineering of high-performance HEA catalysts tailored for specific functionalities.

In this study, the static method was employed to investigate the solubility of potassium benzoate in ten pure solvents, including methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, n-butanol, isobutanol, n-pentanol, formamide, N , N -dimethylformamide, and N , N -dimethylacetamide, within the temperature range from 282.95 to 317.95 K at atmospheric pressure. The influence of temperature and solvent type on the solubility of potassium benzoate was analyzed. The experimental results revealed that the solubility of potassium benzoate increased with the rising of temperature in all the solvents studied. In addition, the experimental solubility data of potassium benzoate was fitted using the modified Apelblat equation and the λh equation. The calculated data showed that the modified Apelblat equation gave the better results compared to the λh equation. Furthermore, the Hansen solubility parameters and dipole moments were used to elucidate the solubilization behavior of potassium benzoate in various solvents. Finally, the dissolution thermodynamic properties of potassium benzoate including the Gibbs free energy, enthalpy and entropy were calculated based on the experimental solubility data and the van't Hoff equation.

The large voltage loss (Vloss) mainly stems from the mismatch between the perovskite film and electron transport layer in CsPbI2Br-based all-inorganic perovskite solar cells (I-PSCs), which restricts the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of devices. To address this issue, potassium benzoate (BAP) is first introduced as a bifunctional passivation material to regulate the TiO2/CsPbI2Br interface, reduce the Vloss, and improve the photovoltaic performance of CsPbI2Br-based I-PSCs. Eventually, the champion PCE of CsPbI2Br-based I-PSCs without a hole transport layer modified by BAP (Target-PSCs) improves to 14.90% from the 12.14% of reference PSCs. The open-circuit voltage (Voc) increases to 1.27 V from the initial 1.14 V after BAP modification. A series of characterizations show that BAP modification can not only optimize the energy level alignment of I-PSCs but also passivize the surface defects caused by uncoordinated Cs+/Pb2+. Moreover, the Target-PSCs without encapsulation demonstrate better thermal stability, which can maintain 107.6% of the original PCE after annealing at 160 °C for 140 min in humid air. While the reference PSCs only maintain 76.5% of their initial PCE after annealing at the same process. This work provides a simple strategy to modify the buried interface and improve the performance of CsPbI2Br-based I-PSCs.

Solar-driven hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) production is a highly promising approach for addressing environmental and energy challenges. The photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production efficiency is predominantly governed by visible light harvesting efficiency, surface active site accessibility, and charge-migration efficiency. In this study, a distinct planar hexanuclear uranyl cluster is formed through chelating and bridging benzoate ligands and terminally coordinated water molecules. Its distinctive structural features offer new possibilities for addressing the challenges of rapid carrier recombination and insufficient active sites in photocatalysis. The ordered periodic arrangement of uranyl units enhances carrier migration and charge utilization, facilitating the two-step single-electron oxygen reduction to generate H 2 O 2 . Meanwhile, the planar molecular configuration promotes the efficient desorption of products from the metal centers, thereby reducing H 2 O 2 decomposition. In addition, the discrete structure of U 6 -BA increases the exposure of the uranyl-oxo active sites, enabling more comprehensive substrate binding and promoting H 2 O 2 production through strong oxidation and hydrogen abstraction. As a result, U 6 -BA exhibits significantly improved photocatalytic performance, achieving an H 2 O 2 production rate of 2160 μmol h −1 g −1 . This study proposes an effective strategy for optimizing photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production using uranyl cluster, offering new insights into the design and application of photocatalytic materials.

Fishy odorants substantially impair the flavor and quality of aquatic products, creating an urgent need for safe and effective deodorization methods. Herein, potassium benzoate-cyclodextrin metal-organic frameworks (PB-CD-MOFs) with multi-dimensional cavities was formulated to remove fishy odorants (2,4-decadienal, 4-heptenal, and nonanal). And the underlying adsorption mechanism of PB-CD-MOFs for fishy odorants was clarified by adsorption kinetics, isotherms, thermodynamics, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Based on the Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis, PB-CD-MOFs possessed a multi-dimensional cavity structure featuring two distinct pore channels. The larger pores (9.5 Å) were from the cavities of γ-CD, while the smaller pores (7.8 Å) were formed through the self-assembly of PB and γ-CD. Compared with γ-CD, PB-CD-MOFs showed fourfold adsorption capacity, probably due to its multi-dimensional pores. Meanwhile, PB-CD-MOFs exhibited excellent adsorption capacities for 2,4-decadienal, 4-heptenal, and nonanal (238.55, 196.91, and 213.88 mg/g), which can be attributed to aldehydes entering the multi-dimensional pore channels and binding to active sites on the pore walls, as evidenced by DFT calculations. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-first-order kinetic model, indicating physisorption. According to the adsorption isotherms of Langmuir, Freundlich, and Redlich-Peterson, PB-CD-MOFs underwent multi-layered heterogeneous adsorption. Thermodynamic and DFT analysis illustrated that the adsorption was a spontaneously exothermic reaction and also revealed that hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces were the principal driving forces for aldehyde adsorption by PB-CD-MOFs. The research offers a new approach to remove fishy odorants, elucidates the related mechanism, and facilitates broader application of CD-MOFs in the food industry.
