Reduced graphene oxide nanofiber (rGONF) modified by anthraquinone-1,5-disulfonate (AQDS) (AQDS-rGONF) was prepared by one-step hydrothermal reaction , and nanocilia-like polyaniline (PANI) grew uniformly on the surface of rGONF under the guidance of AQDS as a starting point of polymerization to fabricate successfully PANI/AQDS-rGONF composite. The results showed that PANI/AQDS-rGONF composite had a larger specific capacitance of 511 F/g than PANI/rGONF composite of 360 F/g or PANI of 312 F/g at a current density of 8 mA/cm 2 , and a greater electrochemical stability with the specific capacitance retention of 82.4% than PANI/rGONF of 63.2% or PANI of 52.2% after 2000 cycles, which were closely related to the synergistic effects of special nanocilia-like structure, large specific surface area, rGONF as a supporting skeleton and AQDS as a “bridge”. In addition, an asymmetric supercapacitor based on PANI/AQDS-rGONF composite as cathode was assembled, which exhibited a high energy density of 17.9 Wh/kg at a power density of 907 W/kg.
Electrochromic (EC) devices are gaining increasing attention for next-generation smart windows and low-power displays due to their reversible color modulation, low operating voltage, and flexible form factors. Recently, electrochromic energy storage devices (EESDs) have emerged as a promising class of multifunctional systems, enabling simultaneous energy storage and real-time visual monitoring. In this study, we report a flexible dual-functional EESD constructed using polyaniline (PANI) films doped with anthraquinone-1-sulfonic acid sodium salt (AQS), coupled with a redox-active PVA-based gel electrolyte also incorporating AQS. The incorporation of AQS into both the polymer matrix and the gel electrolyte introduces synergistic redox activity, facilitating bidirectional Faradaic reactions at the film–electrolyte interface and within the bulk gel phase. The resulting vertically aligned PANI-AQS nanoneedle films provide high surface area and efficient ion pathways, while the AQS-doped gel electrolyte contributes to enhanced ionic conductivity and electrochemical stability. The device exhibits rapid and reversible color switching from light green to deep black (within 2 s), along with a high areal capacitance of 194.2 mF·cm−2at 1 mA·cm−2and 72.1% capacitance retention over 5000 cycles—representing a 31.5% improvement over undoped systems. These results highlight the critical role of redox-functionalized gel electrolytes in enhancing both the energy storage and optical performance of EESDs, offering a scalable strategy for multifunctional, gel-based electrochemical systems in wearable and smart electronics.
A prototype of fluorescence sensor, based on 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone (1,4-DHAQ) derivative and 9-fluorenylmethyl chloroformate (Fmoc-Cl) co-modified Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticals (MNPs) (denoted as 1,4-DHAQ/Fmoc-Cl co-modified Fe 3 O 4 MNPs), has been achieved via solvothermal synthesis of amine-functionalized Fe 3 O 4 MNPs and subsequent surface co-modification of 1,4-DHAQ derivative and Fmoc-Cl onto the Fe 3 O 4 MNPs. The 1,4-DHAQ/Fmoc-Cl co-modified Fe 3 O 4 MNPs can be used for not only simple rapid qualitative detection of Cu 2+ , Cd 2+ , Zn 2+ and Hg 2+ in aqueous solution, but also quantitative analysis of the above four heavy metal ions with lower detection limits of 8 × 10 −9 , 1.5 × 10 −8 , 10 −8 and 10 −8 M, respectively. This is the first prototype of fluorescence sensor that has potentials in the detection of Cu 2+ , Cd 2+ , Zn 2+ and Hg 2+ in aqueous solutions and even in drinking water . The sensor designing idea might be extended to other multifunctional chemosensors .
