Designing integrated, miniaturized, and wireless wearable humidity tracking devices is of great significance for realizing human-related intelligent sensing and health monitoring. In this work, a MXene-Lys (lysine-modified MXene) enabled, fast-response, high-sensitivity, small-sized wireless Bluetooth humidity sensor for real-time monitoring of human finger position, respiration, and physical activity is proposed. Theoretical and experimental results demonstrate that the synthesis of MXene-Lys improves the humidity sensing properties of the sensor by expanding the interlayer distance and enhancing hydrophilic ability. In experimental measurements, the DC (Direct Current) resistance response of the MXene-Lys humidity sensor reaches 30,161 when the relative humidity changes from 20 % to 90 %. Additionally, the equilibrium response time and recovery time of the MXene-Lys sensor were measured as 0.22 s and 0.45 s, respectively, during a rapid humidity shift between 45 % and 75 %. In device recovery tests, the sensor demonstrated a low hysteresis of only 2.77 % RH. Furthermore, the device showed excellent long-term stability, maintaining consistent performance over a 20-day period. The sensor was successfully applied for non-contact finger detection and human respiration rate monitoring, accurately distinguishing between fast and slow breathing patterns and detecting finger positions within 9 mm. Finally, the sensor, along with its battery, Bluetooth transmission module, and protective layer, was encapsulated into a compact wireless humidity sensor (approximately 35 mm × 15 mm × 12 mm). By receiving signals through a mobile device, the sensor enables long-duration and real-time (5.56 h) monitoring of human motion states.

Modern military operations usually require adaptable camouflage across multiple terrains, which prompted us to design and synthesize an electrochromic polymer named P (8,8'-(2,2′-dimethyl-9,9′-spirobi [fluorene]-7,7′-diyl)bis (3,3-bis(((2-ethylhexyl)oxy)methyl)-6-methyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-thieno[3,4-b][1,4]dihydropine)) (PSBF-ProDOT) via direct (hetero)aromatic polymerization (DHAP). PSBF-ProDOT exhibits a yellow-green-blue-violet multicolor change at specific voltages, and its colors blend well with desert, grassland, wilderness, lake, and ocean environments, which hold promising application prospects in the field of military camouflage. Additionally, PSBF-ProDOT features fast response times (1.8 s for oxidation and 3.1 s for reduction), moderate coloration efficiency (80.7 cm 2 C −1 at 424 nm), and low initial redox potential (1.08 V/−1.03 V), meeting the requirements for camouflage devices. Here, we present a deformable and simple dynamic military camouflage electrochromic device (DMCECD) based on PSBF-ProDOT. This device achieves camouflage by changing its color to adapt to the surrounding environment, which is controlled via a Bluetooth app on a smartphone. By fine-tuning the voltage with an accuracy of 0.1 V, we can control the color changes of the dynamic military camouflage device to harmonize with specific environmental hues, ensuring optimal concealment. The integration of the Bluetooth module, printed circuit board, and electrochromic component underscores the innovative potential of electrochromic technology in the field of dynamic military camouflage, illustrating the prospective applications for future dynamic camouflage. We believe that our work will further advance the exploration of dynamic military camouflage and broader multifaceted wearable display technologies.

Sodium alginate (SA), as the eco-friendly and human-safe biomass material not only can achieve effective dispersion of graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs), but also improve the interaction between GnPs and cellulose macromolecules. Based on this, a flexible and wearable GnPs/cellulose strain sensor with a special 2 × 2 double rib knitted fabric structure (KFGS) was prepared by a simple dip-coating method that could be used on a large scale. The KFGS exhibited dual sensing performance with high sensitivity (25.32 kPa −1 at 3 kPa pressure, gauge factor 32.62 at 25% tensile strain), stretchability (ε > 25%) and dynamic stability (signal drift < 6% after 300 cycles). Its potential application prospects were also predicted by the monitoring of human movement and physical parameters through a wireless Bluetooth connection.

In the realm of wearable technology, strategically placing sensors at various body locations enhances the detection of diverse physiological indicators crucial for remote medical care. However, current devices often focus on a single body part for specific physical parameters, which hinders the seamless integration of sensors across multiple body parts and necessitates redesign for new detection capabilities. Here, we propose a modular, reconfigurable circuit assembly method that can be adaptable for multiple body locations to construct the body net. By simply reassembling different child modules with the base module using flexible printed circuit board connectors, we can efficiently detect various parameters including sweat ion indicators, electrocardiogram signals, electromyography signals, motion data, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and skin temperature. These data can be transmitted to a mobile phone app via a Bluetooth Low Energy protocol for further evaluation. Comparative evaluations against established commercial devices substantiate the viability of our sensor technology. In addition, results from wearable body network detections using reconfigurable sensors across multiple body parts of volunteers also indicate promising application prospects, demonstrating the extensive potential for regular health monitoring and clinical applications.

A general strategy of fabricating thickness-controllable hydrogel films with diverse polymer networks for humidity sensing is proposed. The hydrogel film humidity sensor displays an unprecedented sensitivity up to 13,462.1%/%RH.
The stretchable humidity sensor can work normally under large tensile strains with even enhanced sensitivity, which makes the humidity responding property of hydrogel mechanically programmable.
A wireless respiratory interruption detection mask with Bluetooth transmission function is developed based on the sensor, enabling the real-time, wireless and accurate acquisition of user's breathing state, such as the interval and breathing frequency and apnea.

Wearable sensor technology enables personalized health management by continuously monitoring physiological status. Among various biofluids, urine is particularly valuable for non-invasive diagnostics due to its rich biochemical content, making it ideal for real-time and on-site health monitoring. However, conventional urine analysis typically requires hospital-based facilities and is not suitable for daily tracking, especially for infants and patients with incontinence. In this work, we present an integrated smart diaper that enables autonomous urine collection and on-site analysis. The device comprises a Janus fabric layer, a superabsorbent core, and an electrochemical sensing module. The Janus fabric facilitates one-way, self-pumping urine transport from the skin-facing hydrophobic side to the hydrophilic sensing interface, effectively preventing backflow, keeping the skin dry, and improving comfort (approximately 2.6 °C reduction in temperature decrease and 8.1 % reduction in humidity increase) compared to common diapers in the market. As urine contacts the electrode array, it triggers electrochemical reactions for the selective and sensitive detection of key biomarkers, including glucose, uric acid (UA), and hydrogen ions. Then the sensor data is wirelessly transmitted to a smartphone via Bluetooth for real-time health assessment. The limit of detection (LOD) of the sensors is 0.244 mM for glucose and 21.4 μM for UA, and the sensitivity of the pH sensor is −58.25 mV/pH. This user-friendly point-of-care (POC) system offers an effective solution for continuous health monitoring and early disease detection in vulnerable populations such as infants and individuals with incontinence.

Inspired by organic skins in nature, photonic crystal (PC) wearable sensors are attractive for flexible motion-monitoring sensors. However, their poor mechanical property, fatigue resistance, and single-signal sensing limit their applications. Herein, a biomimetic PC wearable sensor with visual and electrical dual signal outputs is successfully developed by combining double-network hydrogels (DNHs) and polystyrene (PS) colloidal arrays. The sensor exhibits a remarkable tensile strength of 1.03 MPa, high strain of 1034.0%, and a low dissipated energy ratio of 9.52% due to multi-hydrogen bond interaction in DNHs, enabling anti-fatigue performance and long-term use. More importantly, the sensor achieves durability and reversibility in both visual and electrical dual signal outputs while demonstrating competitive mechanochromic sensitivity of 3.67 nm%−1 and gauge factor of 0.71. Notably, the PC wearable sensor is integrated with a Bluetooth module to construct an interactive wearable device for real-time visual and electrical feedback generated by the movements of different parts of the human body, making it accurate and convenient to monitor human motion via smartphone. The integrated PC wearable sensor enables precise dual-sensing monitoring by facilely coordinating visual and electrical signals, demonstrating great potential in the applications of wearable devices, health monitoring, human–computer interfaces and so on.

Wireless wearable sweat analysis devices can monitor biomarkers at the molecular level continuously and in situ, which is highly desired for personalized health care. The miniaturization, integration, and wireless operation of sweat sensors improve the comfort and convenience while also bringing forward new challenges for power supply technology. Herein, a wireless self-powered wearable sweat analysis system (SWSAS) is designed that effectively converts the mechanical energy of human motion into electricity through hybrid nanogenerator modules (HNGMs). The HNGM shows stable output characteristics at low frequency with a current of 15 mA and a voltage of 60 V. Through real-time on-body sweat analysis powered by HNGM, the SWSAS is demonstrated to selectively monitor biomarkers (Na + and K + ) in sweat and wirelessly transmit the sensing data to the user interface via Bluetooth.

With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), various IoT devices have been widely used, and in recent years, the rapid development of smart sensors as wearable electronic devices has increasingly promoted human-computer integration. Traditional methods using solid-state power supplies suffer from limited battery life, high maintenance costs and environmental pollution. In this work, we propose a simple yet powerful battery-free human motion sensing system that can recognize human motion through a shoes-ground comprised natural triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG), with a conductive PVA-PEDOT:PSS hydrogel as the signal collection component. In addition, we develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based fall detection system based on the TENG. To this end, we extend TENG with a custom Bluetooth module to transmit the collected signals to the cloud and develop an anomaly detection AI algorithm to detect fall accidents during walking in real time and send instant messages for notification. We experimentally evaluate the proposed TENG fall detection system and conclude that the human sensing-based TENG system has a wide range of potential in wearable electronic devices, and also provides a viable reference for other applications related to human motion detection.

Hydrogels from natural polymers are eco-friendly, biocompatible and adjustable for manufacturing wearable sensors. However, it is still challenging to prepare natural polymer hydrogel sensors with excellent properties (e.g., high conductivity). Here, we developed a physically cross-linked, highly conductive and multifunctional hydrogel (named PPTP) to address this challenge. The natural renewable pectin-based PPTP hydrogel is synthesized by introducing tannic acid (TA), calcium chloride (CaCl 2 ), and sodium chloride (NaCl) into the pectin/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) dual network structure. The hydrogel exhibits excellent characteristics, including unique tensile strength (2.6155 MPa), high electrical conductivity (7 S m −1 ), and high sensitivity (GF = 3.75). It is also recyclable, further enhancing its eco-friendly nature. The PPTP hydrogel can be used for monitoring human joint activities, as flexible electrodes for monitoring electrocardiogram (ECG) signals, and touchable screen pen for electronic skin. Moreover, when combined with Morse code and wireless Bluetooth technology, PPTP hydrogels can be used for underwater and land information encryption, and decryption. Our unique PPTP hydrogel offers promising opportunities for medical monitoring, information transfer, and human-computer interaction.

Creatinine and albumin are crucial biomarkers for health monitoring and their ratio in urine is an effective approach for albuminuria assessment. Herein, to address the challenges of point-of-care and efficient analysis of the biomarkers simultaneously, we developed a fully integrated handheld smartphone-based photoelectrochemical biosensing system. A miniaturized printed circuit board included a potentiostat for photocurrent measurements and single-wavelength light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for photo-excitation, which was controlled with a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4)/chitosan nanocomposites were modified on a transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode as photoactive materials. Creatinine was detected through chelate formation with copper ion probes, while albumin was recognized specifically by an antigen–antibody reaction based on immunoassay. The biosensing system demonstrated good linearity and high sensitivity, with detection ranges of 100 μg mL−1 to 1500 μg mL−1 for creatinine, and 9.9 μg mL−1 to 500 μg mL−1 for albumin. Spiked artificial urine samples with different concentrations were tested to confirm the practical validity of the biosensing system, where an acceptable recovery rate ranged from 98.7% to 105.3%. This portable photoelectrochemical biosensing platform provides a convenient and cost-effective method for biofluid analysis, which has an extensive prospect in point-of-care testing (POCT) for mobile health.
