Inorganic perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have great potential in display, lighting and other fields because of their high optical properties, narrow fluorescence emission half-peak width and convenient synthesis. However, the large Stokes shift (more than 155 nm) of KCsPbBr 3 PQDs results in more energy loss, and the maximum excitation peak is normally located at near-ultraviolet (NUV) region (∼365 nm), greatly limiting its application in lighting and displays based on blue light emitting diodes (LEDs). Herein, KCsPbBr 3 PQDs in lithium disilicate glass powders with a super broad excitation band in the range of 330–450 nm and narrow Stokes shift of ∼67 nm has been developed. Lithium disilicate glass with excellent mechanical properties are introduced as rigid armor to keep CsPbBr 3 PQDs from thermal and moisture attack, even maintaining the average particle size of ∼2.4 nm after high temperature calcination (600 °C). Interestingly, photoluminescence excitation spectrum of KCsPbBr 3 PQDs glass calcined at 600 °C presents which is entirely consistent with the emission wavelength of NUV and blue LEDs. In addition, the photoluminescence intensity of KCsPbBr 3 PQDs in lithium disilicate glass powders increases firstly and then decline sharply after calcination 600 °C, which exhibits with a narrow full width at half peak (FWHM) of ∼20 nm. The KCsPbBr 3 PQDs glass exhibits ultrahigh stable properties and maintains the photoluminescence emission intensity even soaked in deionized water for more than 85 days, indicating a great potential in fields such as green or white light lighting and fingerprint recognition.

Novel blue LED excitable Ce 3+ -doped alkaline-earth sulfide nanocrystals are exploited for selective and sensitive Fe 3+ ions sensing in this work. The detection limit is calculated to be as low as 92.5 nM, which is better than most previous ultra-violet light excited fluorescence probes. The decreased radiative probability of the Ce 3+ : 5d by the NC surface environmental variation activates the sensing capability.

Solution-processed light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are appealing for their potential in the low-cost fabrication of large-area devices. However, the limited performance of solution-processed blue LEDs, particularly their short operation lifetime, is hindering their practical use in display technologies. Here we demonstrate that trace water in the device—previously considered detrimental to most solution-processed LEDs—dramatically enhances the performance of quantum-dot LEDs. This breakthrough stems from our comprehensive mechanism investigations into the positive aging phenomenon, a long-standing puzzle in the quantum-dot LED field. Our findings reveal that water passivation on the surface of electron-transporting layers, which are composed of zinc-oxide-based nanoparticles, improves charge transport and enhances exciton radiative recombination by suppressing hole leakage during device operation. Combined with the advanced top-emitting architecture, our blue quantum-dot LEDs achieve a high current efficiency of 37.1 cd A −1 , a blue index (colour-coordinate-corrected current efficiency) of over 490 cd A −1 \({{\rm{CIE}}}_{y}^{-1}\) and unprecedented stability, with an extrapolated T 95 lifetime (at an initial brightness of 1,000 cd m −2 ) of 287 h. Our work may inspire further exploration into surface passivation of nanocrystalline functional layers, critical for the advancement of emerging solution-processed optoelectronic and electronic devices.
