In this paper, the effects of NaCl stress on physiological and biochemical changes, phenolic compounds and antioxidant system of pea sprouts were studied. Results showed that NaCl stress inhibited the bud length, root length and respiration rate of pea sprouts, and resulted in oxidative damage. However, NaCl promoted the accumulation of total phenolics in pea sprouts, which reached a peak under 60 mmol L −1 NaCl stress. At the same time, the key enzymes activities of PAL, C4H, and 4CL were enhanced. In addition, NaCl stress increased the activity of POD, CAT, SOD and APX, enhancing the antioxidant capacity of pea sprouts. The enrichment of phenolic compounds and the increase of antioxidant enzyme activity together promoted the enhancement of antioxidant capacity. This results provided a scientific basis for further improving the functional components of pea.
Stainless steel sheets were coated with carbon ink to obtain disposable carbon electrodes, which were used as supports for moleculary imprinted polymer (MIP) electrochemical sensors by electropolymerizing o-phenylenediamine and o-aminophenol along with indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) as the template. After optimization, the MIP biosensors could be used for sensitive and selective detection of IAA with the limit of quantification of 0.1 µM. Our experimental results showed that stable and reproducible electrochemical responses could be achieved for the disposable MIP biosensors. This approach was successfully used for detection of IAA in different tissues of pea sprouts. This study reveals the potential of MIP electrochemical sensors in practical applications and shrinks the trench between the research and the real world. Graphical Abstract
Fungal diseases caused by Botrytis cinerea and insect infestations by aphids often occur simultaneously during plant growth. A co-delivery nanosystem for dual-pesticide may enhance pesticide efficiency and reduce the required dosage of pesticides through synergistic effects. Therefore, in this study, we developed a dual pH-responsive nanocomposite AZOX/Thi@BMMs@MIL-88B (ATBM) based on bimodal mesoporous silica (BMMs) and metal organic framework MIL-88B, which was loaded with fungicide azoxystrobin (AZOX) and insecticide thiamethoxam (Thi) to control grey mould and aphid pests. The loading capacities of the two pesticides in the nanocomposite were 18.56 % (AZOX) and 37.38 % (Thi). The nanoparticles (NPs) were spindle-shaped with a hydrated particle size of 771.60 ± 12.55 nm and possessed excellent pH-responsive controlled release behavior. The NPs also demonstrated good wettability and stability due to the entrapment of nanocarriers. Fluorescence tracking experiments verified that the NPs could be effectively absorbed and translocated by pathogenic fungal mycelium and pea seedlings. The bioactivities of ATBM against B. cinerea and A. pisum increased by 9.58 % (AZOX) and 39.48 % (Thi), respectively, compared to the commercialized technical control (TC). This nanocomplex promoted the growth of pea seedlings through the introduction of iron ions and by activating the oxidative stress system, and the excellent biosafety of NPs could minimize environmental risk. In summary, this hybrid bi-carrier dual-pesticide nanopesticide-fertilizer showed significant promise for application in sustainable agriculture.
