High-performance LiMnPO4/C nanoplates synthesized by negative pressure immersion and a solid state reaction using nanoporous Mn2O3 precursors

Jugong Zheng,Cancan Qin,Tongfu Wu,Shuangfei Xie,Liang Ni,Muyang Peng,Yuefeng Tang,Yanfeng Chen

Preparing high-performance LiMnPO4 is still a large obstacle due to its sluggish electrochemical kinetics. To overcome this problem, a novel method is developed for LiMnPO4/C nanoplates from nanoporous Mn2O3 precursors. There are two advantages. Firstly, through negative pressure immersion, lithium dihydrogen phosphate (LiH2PO4), lithium hydroxide (LiOH) and sucrose (C12H22O11) are deposited on the surface of porous Mn2O3 nanosheets. In the following solid-state reaction, three dimensional continuous conductive carbon is wrapped uniformly around the LiMnPO4/C nanoplates, which greatly improved the conductivity. Secondly, (010) exposed facets are obtained using the Mn2O3 hierarchical microspheres as precursors, which allows for a fast transmission of Li+ ions improving the rate capability. As a result, the as-synthesized L-Mn2O3-LMP/C samples exhibit a superior rate performance with discharge capacities of 157.3 mA h g−1 at C/20, 122.6 mA h g−1 at 1C, and 105.8 mA h g−1 at 2C. Meanwhile, they can retain 99.3% of the initial capacity after 100 cycles at 1C, revealing an excellent cycling stability. This method sheds more light on the fabrication of high-performance LiMnPO4/C cathode materials and is suitable for large scale productions.

Fire cupping inspired negative-pressure microneedle syringes loaded with herb berberine-based nano composite for psoriasis therapy

Dan Deng,Runfu Chen,Suai Lin,Yanxin Tao,Gaojin Pei,Bofei Cheng,Mengzhen Zhao,Haoxin Cheng,Junze Yan,Xiaolei Wang

Psoriasis, an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory skin disorder, poses challenges for topical treatment due to the thickening of the stratum corneum, hindering drug penetration. Furthermore, long-term use of chemical drugs may lead to immunosuppression and abnormal hepatic or renal dysfunction. Inspired by traditional Chinese fire cupping (Ba Huo Guan), a negative-pressure microneedle syringe therapy has been proposed here for psoriasis treatment. This microneedle syringe demonstrated an enhanced transepidermal drug delivery efficiency. Additionally, the microneedles contain nanoparticles self-assembled from Chinese herbal monomers berberine (BBR) and ferulic acid (FA), which play vital roles in psoriasis treatment, including inhibiting abnormal proliferation of local microbial communities, scavenging excess reactive oxygen species, suppressing keratinocyte proliferation locally, and modulating macrophage polarization to mitigate inflammation.

Data-Driven High-Throughput Screening and Experimental Realization of Ag2B(IV)B′(VI)O6 under Negative Chemical-Pressure

Zhongxiong Sun,Jinjin Yang,Yifeng Han,Man-Rong Li

Harsh synthetic conditions and high cost seriously hinder the discoveries of metastable materials under extreme conditions. Extending the big-data-driven high-throughput calculation (HTC) to depict the chemically negative pressure (NP) zone enables the creation of efficient and accurate prediction models over the full pressure range. This approach significantly expedites the exploration and discovery of novel multifunctional metastable materials. Here, double perovskites Ag2B(IV)B′(VI)O6 were adopted to illustrate the comprehensive process of big-data-mining, HTC, and experimental realization under chemically NP. High-throughput screening of 32 Ag2BB′O6 compounds, encompassing 9 possible crystal structures and 23 derived magnetic structures, resulting in 1024 potential candidates. Ag2MnTeO6 (AMTO) and Ag2TiTeO6 (ATTO) were selected for the experimental validation. We captured a new polymorph of AMTO (R-3, 3R) at ambient pressure through ion-exchange reaction, a phase theoretically predicted to be stable under NP about −6.6 GPa. Moreover, as predicted by density functional theory calculations, the P-31c (2H) AMTO is an antiferromagnetic semiconductor with magnetic transition at 3 K and direct band gap ∼0.97 eV. This work is expected to guide the exploration of hidden metastable phase by providing a methodological framework and novel conceptual approach for future research.

Negative Pressure Smart Patch to Sense and Heal the Wound

Xing Liu,Peng Zhao,Xiaozhuo Wu,Yawei Zhao,Feifan Zhou,Ying Luo,Xiaoli Jia,Wen Zhong,Malcolm Xing,Guozhong Lyu

Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) offers significant advantages in terms of rate and time for healing through generating sub-vacuum to draw out inflammatory exudate and promote wound closure. However, continuous drainage probably leads to healing delay due to the lack of information about the real status of the wound bed and the potential risk of infection. To address this concern, printed Negative Pressure Smart Patch (NPSP) is reported by integrating smart real-time sensing acidity (infection) and glucose, and anti-infection into NPWT systems. In addition, NPSP delivers vancomycin through chitosan porous microspheres under negative pressure to modulate wound healing. Compared with NPWT, NPSP projects a promising approach to removing bacteria, reducing local inflammation, and accelerating healing in a short period of time.

A Biodegradable Janus Sponge for Negative Pressure Wound Therapy

Lei Tang,Zhaoyuan Guo,Quan Zhao,Xi Fan,Yuji Pu,Bin He,Jianlin Chen

Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is effective in repairing serious skin injury. The dressing used in the NPWT is important for wound healing. In this paper, we develop biodegradable amphiphilic polyurethanes (PUs) and fabricate the PUs into sponges as wound dressings (Bi@e) with Janus pore architectures for NPWT. The Bi@e is adaptive to all the stages of the wound healing process. The Janus Bi@e sponge consists of two layers: the dense hydrophobic upper layer with small pores provides protection and support during negative pressure drainage, and the loose hydrophilic lower layer with large pores absorbs large amounts of wound exudate and maintains a moist environment. Additionally, antibacterial agent silver sulfadiazine (SSD) is loaded into the sponge against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus with a concentration of 0.50 wt%. The Janus sponge exhibits a super absorbent capacity of 19.53 times its own water weight and remarkable resistance to compression. In a rat skin defect model, the Janus Bi@e sponge not only prevents the conglutination between regenerative skin and dressing but also accelerates wound healing compared to commercially available NPWT dressing. The Janus Bi@e sponge is a promising dressing for the NPWT.

Preferential self-assembly behavior of polydisperse silica particles under negative pressure

Yuxian Zhang,Maohua Quan,Weidong Zhao,Zhou Yang,Dong Wang,Hui Cao,Wanli He

The research about assembly behavior of colloidal particles under external field is a key of improved self-assembly method. Although high quality photonic crystals prepared by improved self-assembly method under external field have been reported, real applications require monodisperse particles. Here, we designed negative pressure field to prepare opal film composed of polydisperse SiO 2 particles. The effect of different negative pressures on the opal’s surface morphology and photonic band gap (PBG) properties was investigated. Under the optimal pressure, close-packed opal was obtained, which is composed of irregular and polydisperse silica particles. We attribute this to the balance between sedimentation of SiO 2 particles and solvent evaporation during the assembly process. Importantly, this approach could be complementary to the preparing of three-dimensional photonic crystals with long-range ordered structures in usual laboratory.

Efficient extraction and preparative separation of four main isoflavonoids from Dalbergia odorifera T. Chen leaves by deep eutectic solvents-based negative pressure cavitation extraction followed by macroporous resin column chromatography

Lu Li,Ju-Zhao Liu,Meng Luo,Wei Wang,Yu-Yan Huang,Thomas Efferth,Hui-Mei Wang,Yu-Jie Fu

In this study, green and efficient deep eutectic solvent-based negative pressure cavitation-assisted extraction (DES-NPCE) followed by macroporous resin column chromatography was developed to extract and separate four main isoflavonoids, i.e. prunetin, tectorigenin, genistein and biochanin A from Dalbergia odorifera T. Chen leaves. The extraction procedure was optimized systematically by single-factor experiments and a Box-Behnken experimental design combined with response surface methodology. The maximum extraction yields of prunetin, tectorigenin, genistein and biochanin A reached 1.204, 1.057, 0.911 and 2.448   mg/g dry weight, respectively. Moreover, the direct enrichment and separation of four isoflavonoids in DES extraction solution was successfully achieved by macroporous resin AB-8 with recovery yields of more than 80%. The present study provides a convenient and efficient method for the green extraction and preparative separation of active compounds from plants.

General negative pressure annealing approach for creating ultra-high-loading single atom catalyst libraries

Wang Yi,Li Chongao,Han Xiao,Bai Jintao,Wang Xuejing,Zheng Lirong,Hong Chunxia,Li Zhijun,Bai Jinbo,Leng Kunyue,Lin Yue,Qu Yunteng

Catalyst systems populated by high-density single atoms are crucial for improving catalytic activity and selectivity, which can potentially maximize the industrial prospects of heterogeneous single-atom catalysts (SACs). However, achieving high-loading SACs with metal contents above 10 wt% remains challenging. Here we describe a general negative pressure annealing strategy to fabricate ultrahigh-loading SACs with metal contents up to 27.3–44.8 wt% for 13 different metals on a typical carbon nitride matrix. Furthermore, our approach enables the synthesis of high-entropy single-atom catalysts (HESACs) that exhibit the coexistence of multiple metal single atoms with high metal contents. In-situ aberration-corrected HAADF-STEM (AC-STEM) combined with ex-situ X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) demonstrate that the negative pressure annealing treatment accelerates the removal of anionic ligand in metal precursors and boosts the bonding of metal species with N defective sites, enabling the formation of dense N-coordinated metal sites. Increasing metal loading on a platinum (Pt) SAC to 41.8 wt% significantly enhances the activity of propane oxidation towards liquid products, including acetone, methanol, and acetic acid et al. This work presents a straightforward and universal approach for achieving many low-cost and high-density SACs for efficient catalytic transformations.

The N and P co-doping-induced giant negative piezoresistance behaviors of SiC nanowires

Xin Cheng,Lin Wang,Fengmei Gao,Weiyou Yang,Zhentao Du,Ding Chen,Shanliang Chen

The third-generation semiconductor silicon carbide (SiC) is identified as one of the vitally important candidate materials to serve as a functional unit that performs stably and reliably under harsh working conditions, with respect to its excellent piezoresistive effects and robust physical/chemical characteristics. In the current work, we put forward the fabrication of SiC nanowires with co-doped N and P elements, which were fabricated via the pyrolysis of a polymeric material. The as-grown nanowires have a typical diameter of ∼260 nm with a 10 surface. The measured transverse piezoresistance coefficient π[10] of the established SiC nanowires increased from 5.07 to −146.30 × 10−11 Pa−1 as the loading forces varied from 24.95 to 130.51 nN. Meanwhile, the corresponding gauge factor (GF) was calculated up to ca. −877.79, which is higher than the values for all SiC nanostructures ever reported. The mechanism concerning the giant negative piezoresistance behavior of SiC nanowire is proposed. The current exploration may pave a new avenue for the development of highly sensitive and robust pressure sensors that could survive under harsh working conditions.

Flexible Wearable Capacitive Sensors Based on Ionic Gel with Full-Pressure Ranges

Mengqin Zhang,Mingxin Gu,Li Shao,Guanyin Cheng,Hailin Gao,Bihao Sun,Sen Li,Tian Tang,Nan Li,Yuanbang Yi,Dacheng Wei,Ce Yang,Dapeng Wei

Flexible positive pressure sensors have been studied extensively and have been used in a lot of scenarios. However, negative pressure detection is also in demand in some scenarios, such as fluid mechanics analysis, air pressure sensing, and so on. Flexible wearable sensors that can detect both positive and negative pressures will greatly broaden the application field. In this paper, we report a flexible highly sensitive ionic gel (IG) pressure sensor, which is simple and of low cost to prepare and can reliably detect a large pressure range from −98 to 100 kPa under an atmospheric pressure of about 982 hPa. The IG dielectric layer is composed of polyvinyl alcohol and phosphoric acid with a random microstructure of sandpaper inversion. The sensor exhibits flexibility, cycling stability, and high sensitivity under both negative and positive pressures (S = 84.45 nF/kPa for the negative pressure section, S = 25.61 nF/kPa for the positive pressure section). These sensors could be worn on the body not only to test breathing and pulse but also to measure air pressure for estimating the altitude, showing that the flexible full-pressure sensors have a wider application range in wearable electronics.

Light-driven soft climbing robot based on negative pressure adsorption

Jiaxin Wu,Wenfei Ai,Kai Hou,Chaofan Zhang,Yue Long,Kai Song

Many organisms rely on a dynamic attachment mechanism to climb surfaces. Inspired by these organisms, researchers have developed soft climbing robots. Despite their rapid development in recent times, such robots have restricted application in complex environments, such as the lack of remote wireless actuation and attachment ability for climbing tilted or slippery surfaces. To address these issues, we report a   light-driven dynamic adsorption/desorption soft suction cup inspired by rock-climbing fish ( Beaufortia kweichowensis ). Our suction cups utilize the volumetric change caused by changes in the gas–liquid phase in the inner chamber to generate suction and thrust. The repetitive changes in the gas–liquid phase, controlled by photothermal conversion, help achieve adsorption and desorption. We demonstrated that the suction cups based on negative pressure adsorption can easily help miniaturize soft robotic devices and adapt to multiple types of substrates, making our approach applicable to tilted or slippery surfaces. By integrating the soft suction cups for surface attachment by dynamic control and a shape memory alloy as a deformable body, we developed a soft climbing robot that can perform precise, facile, and programmed controlled climbing under different conditions via remote light manipulation. Four continuous and directional climbing sequences on tilted and slippery surfaces were demonstrated. The results are expected to help advance the application of light-driven soft robots on tilted or slippery surfaces

Negative pressure-assisted porous structure with gradient dielectrics design for linearity enhancement of flexible capacitance pressure sensor

Yan Zhong,Longgang Wu,Fucheng Gu,Jiaqi Wang,Shengping Dai,Hao Zhu,Guanggui Cheng,Jianning Ding

The trade-off between sensitivity and linearity range for flexible capacitive pressure sensors remains unresolved. Herein, a simple and low-cost method is proposed to fabricate porous structure with the aid of negative pressure. The gradient dielectrics are assembled with porous structure doped with different CNT ratios. With the perforated design on the low dielectric layer, the gradient dielectric can realize series-parallel conversion during the pressure-induced deformation process, where the coverage ratio and dielectric properties of low dielectric layer can be appropriately collocated to realize the linear behavior of the capacitance performance over the full-scale pressure. Therefore, the capacitive sensor based on optimized gradient dielectric layer can achieve a high sensitivity of 0.247 kPa −1 and a wide linearity range of 0–175 kPa. With the high sensitivity over a broad pressure range, the capacitive sensor demonstrates its various practical applications in monitoring physiological signals and human motions such as the artery pulse, respiratory, knee bending, elbow bending degree and walking and running status, showing potential in wearable healthcare monitor.
