Heavy metal Cadmium (Cd) will continuously pollute the atmosphere, soil and various water environments through material circulation, and even pose a threat to human safety. It has been designated as a first-class pollutant in sewage by China, therefore there is an urgent need to find
new, more effective, and low-cost method to accurately detect Cadmium ion (Cd2+) concentration. We experimentally prepared a new Cd2+ sensor based on NiS2 nanomaterials capable of measuring Cd2+ concentration. The corresponding relationship between
over potential of NiS2 nanomaterials in H2SO4 electrolyte solutions with different Cd2+ concentration and reduction peak with change of Cd2+ concentration was obtained by electrochemical method.

Novel electrode materials with desired specific capacitances are needed for supercapacitors. Rare-earth (RE)-based materials are fascinating in the field of catalysis and energy. Herein, a series of hydroxides including La, Ce, Pr and Nd was synthesized via in situ precipitation. Interestingly, only Ce(OH)3 showed a redox peak in both positive and negative ranges. The other RE hydroxides exhibited a redox peak only in the positive range. Therefore, in order to certify that Ce(OH)3 can be used as a negative electrode, symmetrical supercapacitors consisting of Ce(OH)3 as both positive and negative electrodes were assembled, and showed a voltage window of 1.3 V. Moreover, asymmetrical supercapacitors were successfully fabricated, in which the positive electrode was composed of La(OH)3, Pr(OH)3 or Nd(OH)3. These results may pave the way to novel negative electrode materials.

Corrosion of electrocatalysts during electrochemical operations, such as low potential - high potential cyclic swapping, can cause significant performance degradation. However, the electrochemical corrosion dynamics, including structural changes, especially site and composition specific ones, and their correlation with electrochemical processes are hidden due to the insufficient spatial-temporal resolution characterization methods. Using electrochemical liquid cell transmission electron microscopy, we visualize the electrochemical corrosion of Pd@Pt core-shell octahedral nanoparticles towards a Pt nanoframe. The potential-dependent surface reconstruction during multiple continuous in-situ cyclic voltammetry with clear redox peaks is captured, revealing an etching and deposition process of Pd that results in internal Pd atoms being relocated to external surface, followed by subsequent preferential corrosion of Pt (111) terraces rather than the edges or corners, simultaneously capturing the structure evolution also allows to attribute the site-specific Pt and Pd atomic dynamics to individual oxidation and reduction events. This work provides profound insights into the surface reconstruction of nanoparticles during complex electrochemical processes.

An electrochemical sensor was fabricated by modifying nanoporous gold (NPG)-coated glassy carbon electrode (NPG/GCE) with functionalized graphene oxide /chitosan/ionic liquid nanocomposites (fGO/CS/IL). The introduction of ionic liquid (IL) and chitosan (CS) induced higher dispersibility of functionalized graphene oxide (fGO), and was beneficial for the combination of fGO/CS/IL with NPG/GCE. As a result of the synergistic effect of NPG and fGO/CS/IL, the resulted functionalized graphene oxide/chitosan/ionic liquid nanocomposites/nanoporous gold /glassy carbon electrode (fGO/CS/IL/NPG/GCE) showed the highest redox peak current response signal of Amaranth (E123) due to ultrahigh surface area, electronic conductivity as well as the improvement of the surface structure. Under optimized conditions, the enhanced peak currents represented excellent analytical performance for detection of Amaranth in the concentration range from 8.0 to 1200.0 nM. Meanwhile, the fGO/CS/IL/NPG/GCE presented satisfactory sensitivity and selectivity, excellent reproducibility, and long-time stability. For practical applications, the fGO/CS/IL/NPG/GCE was validated for the determination of Amaranth in three types of drinks with satisfactory results.
