This study determines the potential of manganese oxide (MnO x ) nanoparticles for the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The MnO x nanoparticles were prepared by a facile co-precipitation method and the degradation rates of acid red G (ARG) by the as-prepared catalysts in the presence of PMS were measured. The results showed that the Mn 3 O 4 nanoparticles with tetragonal structure exhibited high catalytic activity for the degradation of ARG by activating PMS to generate radicals. The effects of the operational parameters on the catalytic property of the obtained nanosized Mn 3 O 4 catalyst were investigated in detail. The catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic activity in a wide range of pH from 2 to 12. Moreover, it still maintained high catalytic activity even after five reaction cycles, indicating the good stability of the catalyst. In addition, radical quenching studies were carried out to ascertain the dominating radical species and a proper mechanism was also proposed.
In this paper, a novel copper nanoclusters (ARG-CuNCs) has been synthesized by Acid red G stabilized. The optimal excitation wavelength of the synthesized ARG-CuNCs is 330 nm, and a corresponding emission peak is 426 nm. Notably, the fluorescence intensity of ARG-CuNCs could be stablized over six months, and it exhibits minimal variation within the pH range of 2.21–11.58, indicating exceptional stability of the synthesized copper nanoclusters. It was observed that tetracycline (TC) effectively quenches the fluorescence intensity of ARG-CuNCs, and the relative fluorescence intensity change ( Q = F 0 /F) exhibiting a linear relationship with the concentration of TC in the range of 1.0–110.0 µmol/L, and the detection limit (LOD) is 0.33 µmol/L. Thus, a fluorescence-based analytical method for determining TC concentration has been developed based on the relationship of the Q value with the concentration of TC. Furthermore, leveraging a smartphone and colorimetric analysis software, a novel visual quantitative detection method for TC detection has been established based on the image of the mixture solution (TC and ARG-CuNCs) under the 365 nm ultraviolet lamp irradiation, and using ARG-CuNCs as a fluorescence probe. Platinum nanoclusters ( PtNC s) with fluorescent properties have been prepared using Acid Red G as a stabilizer, potassium hexachloroplatinate as a precursor, and sodium borohydride as a reducing agent, with a reaction time of about 2 h. The optimal excitation wavelength of the synthesized PtNCs is 333 nm, and the optimal emission wavelength is 431 nm. It has been found that tetracycline ( TC ) can significantly quench the fluorescence of the synthesized PtNCs. A good linear relationship was observed between the quenching value (F 0 –F) of the PtNCs fluorescence intensity and the TC concentration in the range of 5.00–50.00 μM, with a correlation coefficient ( r ) of 0.9962. Thus, a fluorescence analysis method for measuring TC was established based on the above phenomenon, with a detection limit of 2.04 μM (3σ/ k ). The standard concentration of TC was added to tap water for spiked recovery experiments, the recovery rate was in the range of 97.37–100.03%, and the relative standard deviation ranged from 1.96 to 4.76%. This indicates that the established method has demonstrated feasibility for detecting TC content in water samples. Meanwhile, PtNCs were used as fluorescent probes to achieve visual quantitative detection of TC concentration using smartphones and colorimetric analysis software.
