The recycling of electroplating sludge is of great significance to alleviate environmental pollution and resource depletion. However, due to the complex composition of electroplating sludge, especially chromium-containing electroplating sludge is difficult to treat, and the methods for detoxification and resource utilization of chromium-containing electroplating sludge are still lacking. Herein, we extracted chromium from electroplating sludge by a facile and economical roasting and acid leaching method to achieve detoxification, and the remaining detoxification residue was converted into a Fenton-like catalyst, which was used for the degradation of tetracycline to achieve resource utilization. The results showed that the extraction of chromium by this method could reach 93.35%, the resulting catalyst had excellent degradation performance over a wide pH range (3−11), and the removal of tetracycline could reach 98.8% under optimal conditions. Furthermore, cost calculations have shown that this method has cost advantages over traditional processing methods. In this work, an excellent performance catalyst was obtained that can be used for tetracycline degradation along with the detoxification of electroplating sludge, which provides a new route for the harmless treatment and resource utilization of electroplating sludge, with important theoretical fundamental value and potential application prospect.

Coal gasification fine slag (CGFS) was produced in the coal gasification process which was classified as an industrial solid waste. It was featured with naturally formed amorphous structures and an abundance of silicon, carbon and metal oxides . In this study, on the basis of the composition and structure characteristics of CGFS, a simple hydrochloric acid (HCl) leaching technology was applied to in situ prepare carbon-silica mesoporous composites (CSMCs) from CGFS by fully considering the value of the residual carbon. Special focus was put on the novel mechanism of pore formation in amorphous silica glass microspheres (SGM) during acid leaching. Experimental evidences showed that the metal oxides were uniformly distributed in SGM thus the dissolution of the metal oxides were starting from the surface of SGM, then gradually extending to the interior, and finally leading to form “tree branch” mesoporous channels. In addition, a response surface method was used to predict the optimal reaction conditions and the optimal sample (named as CGFS-O) was successfully prepared. CGFS-O possessed a prominent specific surface area (SSA) (337.51 m 2 /g) as well as an excellent pore volume (0.341 cm 3 /g). CGFS-O also exhibited a desirable capacity for NO 3 − removing and the adsorption process was studied detailed by changing different adsorption conditions. Adsorption results proved that CSMCs have the potential to purify wastewater in an economically and environmentally way. Therefore, combined with a proof-of-concept adsorption performance experiment, our study has not only provided a cost-effective strategy to industrially prepare CSMCs, reutilizing CGFS in an environmentally friendly way, but also contributed to the future applications of CSMCs with valuable insights into the pore formation mechanism in SGM during acid leaching process.

Residues of Tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) in water can cause monumental damage to the environment and human health. Accumulating and landfilling decarbonized coal gasification fine slag (DGFS) leads to the waste of resources and environmental pollution. Based on the principle of Treating Waste with Waste, a Fenton-like catalyst (DAPC) for the catalytic degradation of TCH in water was prepared using DGFS as raw material by one-step acid leaching. The composition, micromorphology and surface functional groups of DGFS and DAPC were analyzed, and the catalytic degradation effect and cycling performance of DAPC catalyst on TCH were investigated. The results showed that the specific surface area of DAPC is 191.20 m 2 /g, which is nearly 40 times higher than that of before acid leaching. The presence of abundant polar functional groups, such as hydroxy and siloxy, on the surface of the catalyst provides active sites that facilitate the adhesion of TCH to the DAPC catalyst surface.. The degradation efficiency of TCH was 88.30% after 3 h under the optimal conditions (DAPC: 5 g/L, H 2 O 2 : 2 mL) and 83.68% of the initial value after four cycles, demonstrating excellent catalytic and cycling performance. Using DGFS as the raw material for a Fenton-like catalyst can reduce production costs, enhance catalyst activity and prevent iron sludge pollution. This study presents a new approach to treating TCH pollutants and utilising DGFS effectively. In the future, we can modify the surface of DAPC to improve its catalytic efficiency and explore its general applicability by using it to degrade other pollutants in water.

With the escalating energy crisis, clean and renewable hydrogen energy has emerged as a focal point of research. This study utilizes titanium concentrate as the primary raw material and employed a more convenient and efficient mechanical activation-oxidation-reduction-acid leaching process to effectively enrich TiO 2 , thereby producing a highly active and stable TiO 2 photocatalyst substrate. To further enhanced its photocatalytic performance, this research developed a heterostructured mineral-derived material g-C 3 N 4 /TiO 2 -6/Pt. Experimental results indicated that the hydrogen evolution rate of the g-C 3 N 4 /TiO 2 -6/Pt composite material reached 6.42 mmol/g/h within 5 h, whereas that of g-C 3 N 4 /P25/Pt was only 5.92 mmol/g/h. This study underscores the significance of extracting TiO 2 from titanium concentrate and its subsequent applications. By effectively utilizing titanium resources, it aims to address the increasing industrial demand for TiO 2 while providing innovative solutions to combat environmental pollution and mitigate the energy crisis. These findings hold substantial theoretical and practical implications for advancing related fields.
