In recent years, all-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite quantum dots have emerged as promising candidates for various optoelectronic applications, including sensors, light-emitting diodes, and solar cells, owing to their exceptional photoelectric properties. However, their commercial utilization has been limited by stability issues. In this study, we addressed this challenge by passivating the surface defects of CsPbBr3quantum dots using indium acetate, a metal–organic compound. The resulting CsPbBr3quantum dots exhibited not only high photoluminescence intensity, but also a remarkably narrow half-peak width of 19 nm. Furthermore, by embedding the CsPbBr3quantum dots in ethylene-vinyl acetate, we achieved stretchability and significantly enhanced stability while preserving the original luminous intensity. The resulting composite film demonstrated the potential to improve the power conversion efficiency of crystalline silicon solar cells and enabled the creation of excellent white light-emitting diodes with coordinates of (0.33, 0.31). This co-passivation strategy, involving surface passivation and polymer packaging, provides a new idea for the practical application of CsPbBr3quantum dots.

The electron transfer mechanism involving multiple trapping states has great implications for dictating the photoelectrochemical (PEC) hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Uncovering the ultrafast dynamics of multiple trapping states in defect-rich catalysts to suppress undesirable Shockley–Read–Hall (SRH) recombination and boost electron extraction remains a crucial yet challenging task. Herein, we bypass defect-induced SRH recombination sites and redirect more excited electrons toward the HER by engineering an additional electron transfer channel within Ag–In–S quantum dots (AIS QDs) via Mn doping. Photoluminescence spectroscopic studies indicate effective charge carrier transfer from the band edge to the doping states, inducing a 5.3-fold enhancement in the electron transfer rate. Using ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy, we reveal that host photoexcitation leads to subpicosecond electron transfer from the conduction band to the empty Mn2+ d-orbitals in Mn-doped QDs, and the resultant charge transfer state shortens the excited-state electron transfer lifetime from 3.73 to 1.19 ns, corresponding to a 300% acceleration of carrier depopulation and enhancing excited electron availability. Moreover, the evolution of the product composition indicates the improved interfacial utilization of holes, as the applied PEC bias relieves kinetic constraints on hole transfer. Consequently, a saturated photocurrent density of 8.6 mA cm–2 at 0.5 V vs RHE was achieved for the as-fabricated PEC device under one-sun irradiation, comparable to the latest bare heavy-metal-free QD-based PEC systems. These results underscore that modulating electron dynamics, previously dominated by intrinsic defects, through intermediate energy levels is a promising strategy to enable high-efficiency PEC solar energy conversion.

Tungsten trioxide (WO 3 ) is a promising functional oxide for optoelectronic and photonic applications; however, simultaneously controlling its morphology and defect structure remains a significant challenge. Herein, we demonstrate a facile hydrothermal strategy to synthesize indium-doped WO 3-x nanostructures and systematically investigate the correlation between dopant concentration, morphological evolution, and photoluminescence (PL) properties. By tuning the In 3+ content from 0 to 20 at%, the morphology progressively transforms from slender nanowires to nanorods and finally nanosheets, accompanied by lattice distortion and defect generation. The optical bandgap decreases from 3.23 eV to 2.73 eV, while the PL emission intensity exhibits a remarkable non-monotonic increase, reaching a maximum enhancement of approximately 10-times at 15 at% In 3+ . This enhancement is attributed to the synergistic effects of defect-induced radiative recombination centers and morphology-optimized light–matter interactions. Our findings establish a clear structure–property relationship for In-doped WO 3-x nanostructures and provide new insights into defect and morphology engineering for advanced WO 3 -based optoelectronic and photonic devices.

Ensuring broad-spectrum visible-light absorption and efficient electron extraction is essential for enhancing the efficiency of photocatalytic hydrogen production. To achieve this, manipulating carrier dynamics through cocatalyst heterojunction engineering has attracted considerable concern. However, conventional narrow-bandgap Cu–In–Zn–S (CIZS) nanocrystals (NCs) typically exhibit limited photocatalytic activity due to severe exciton annihilation. Herein, two-dimensional (2D) CIZS nanobelts (NBs) were coupled with Ni 9 S 8 cocatalyst to construct a library of CIZS/Ni 9 S 8 Schottky heterojunctions synthesized via a combined colloidal one-pot and hot-injection strategy. As anticipated, the CIZS/2.0%Ni 9 S 8 heterojunction displayed the optimal photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activity of 2.75 mmol g −1 h −1 , ≈3.31 times higher than that of pristine CIZS NBs (0.83 mmol g −1 h −1 ). Experimental results uncovered that the enhanced photocatalytic performance originated from the formation of the CIZS/2.0%Ni 9 S 8 Schottky heterojunction, which facilitated efficient charge transfer from CIZS NBs to Ni 9 S 8 and hindered the return of electrons. Moreover, Ni 9 S 8 serves as active catalytic sites, significantly accelerating surface proton reduction reactions. This study provides valuable insights into the rational design and precise synthesis of colloidal multinary Cu-based chalcogenide heterojunctions for efficient photocatalytic energy conversion.

Near-infrared-emitting copper-based I-III-VI quantum dots (QDs) hold significant promise for photonics and bioapplications, yet their broad photoluminescence (PL) emission severely limits color purity and device efficiency. Herein, we report a hierarchically staged synthesis that decouples and sequentially suppresses defect- and phonon-induced broadening. Starting with Zn-poor CuInSe 2 QDs via cation exchange, we introduce Zn 2+ alloying to passivate cation vacancies and homogenize composition, forming a defect-minimized core. Subsequent epitaxial overcoating with a thick ZnS shell strongly localizes excitons, evidenced by suppressed thermal quenching and dominant coupling to a higher-order longitudinal optical ( LO ) phonon mode of ZnS ( E LO ≈ 141 meV). This shifts recombination from defect-assisted to near-band-edge emission, yielding CuInZnSe/ZnS QDs with an ultranarrow linewidth of 111 meV, high PL quantum yield of 73%, and minimal Stokes shift of 42 meV at 977 nm. When integrated into luminescent solar concentrators, these QDs enable an optical efficiency of 8.81% and a power conversion efficiency of 2.79%, underscoring their practical utility. Beyond reporting materials, this work provides profound insights into the interplay of exciton confinement and defect engineering, establishing a general and instructive strategy for achieving high color purity in multinary QDs.

As environmental and energy issues become increasingly apparent, the tandem catalytic hydrogenation of CO2 for direct hydrocarbon production has attracted significant attention. However, zeolite deactivation caused by metal migration severely hampers its development. This work reveals that for the In2O3/ZSM-5 catalyst in CO2 hydrogenation, indium species preferentially migrate to the external surface of ZSM-5 and interact with hydroxyl groups (e.g., Brønsted acid sites (BAS) and SiOH) via solid-state ion exchange, which is related to the subsequent poisoning of BAS within micropores. Based on this insight, a surface engineering strategy was developed by grafting silane onto the external surface, which significantly enhanced the resistance to indium poisoning. After a 22-h reaction, the silane-modified catalyst (In2O3/ZSM-5-SiPr) retained nearly all of its strong acid sites and maintained a C2+ hydrocarbon selectivity of >92.0%. However, the unmodified catalyst suffered a 60% loss of the number of strong acid sites and yielded 0% C2+ selectivity. The derived 0.6Si/In2O3/ZSM-5-SiPr achieved a C2+ selectivity of >92.0% with a space-time yield (STY) of 3.66 mmol goxide–1 h–1, which is more than 2.6 times higher than that of the reported powder-mixed In2O3 tandem catalysts, and demonstrated stability for over 260 h under harsh conditions. This strategy is generally applicable to multiple zeolites with varying Si/Al ratios and topologies. This work provides a universal approach for designing stable and highly active tandem catalysts resistant to metal migration during CO2 hydrogenation.

Novel Eu 3+ -doped Cs 2 KInCl 6 double perovskite exhibits ultrabroadband emission, enabling efficient multicolor luminescence covering the entire visible spectrum with a single luminescent center. This behavior originates from the intrinsically low phonon energy of the host, which effectively suppresses multi-phonon relaxation (MPR) and consequently reshapes the radiative pathways of Eu 3+ . As a result, its stepwise population accumulation occurs along the excited-state energy ladder, promoting multiple radiative transitions. Based on this kinetic behavior, the rare coexistence of blue ( 5 D 3 → 7 F 4 ), green ( 5 D 2 → 7 F 3 ), yellow ( 5 D 1 → 7 F 2 ), and red ( 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 ) emissions are achieved with large emission cross-sections of 2.00 × 10 −22 , 4.75 × 10 −22 , 5.48 × 10 −22 , and 8.18 × 10 −22 cm 2 , respectively. These emissions are further validated by high fluorescence branching ratios exceeding 40%, confirming the efficiency of the corresponding radiative channels and their collective contribution to multipeak full-spectrum emission. In addition, the phosphors demonstrate pronounced thermal responsiveness in the temperature range of 303 – 433 K, together with dynamically tunable emission, supporting their applications in high-sensitivity optical thermometry, dynamic anti-counterfeiting, and high-quality lighting. Overall, this work suggests that ultralow-phonon-energy perovskite provides an effective platform for achieving multiple excited-state radiative transitions, thus offering a research foundation for developing functional optical materials and next-generation photonic devices.

Conventional electromagnetic materials are functionally limited, lack real-time switching, and require centimeter-scale dimension and mechanical properties, posing challenges in complex and extreme applications. Here, we report a single-atom-anchored two-dimensional material synthesized via the general thermal splitting of heavy 5p -series nanoparticles onto graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) nanosheets. We demonstrate that the incorporation of heavier single atoms induces strong electronic correlations in quantum phases, leading to anomalous electronic phenomena such as band flattening, inversion, and densely packed, continuous van Hove singularities—features that are challenging to conventional approaches. The electromagnetic transistor enables dynamically programmable control over electromagnetic signals, including selective transmission, absorption, and shielding. This functionality is achieved with ultra-low voltage operation (<1.0 V) and a highly miniaturized transistor thickness of ∼800 μm, nearly an order of magnitude smaller than conventional materials. Furthermore, this transistor maintains stable performance under mechanical deformation and across a broad temperature range (300–900 K), ensuring long-term reliability in extreme conditions.

Quenching mechanisms of AIZS and AIZS@SiO 2 core–shell nanoparticles were investigated. • Thermal quenching was mainly caused by the decomposition of organic ligands. • Chemical quenching was mainly resulted from the destruction of crystal structure. • Fluorescent quenching of hierarchical porous micro-nano surfaces was obviously improved. • Micro-nano hierarchical porous surfaces showed an application in information encryption field. Luminescence quenching is a common but undesirable phenomenon to quantum dots (QDs). However, systematic studies of quenching mechanism under harsh conditions are lacking. Herein, firstly, temperature-dependent PL intensity of Ag-In-Zn-S (AIZS) and their monodispersed silica-coated core–shell nanoparticles (AIZS@SiO 2 ) was conducted through thermal cycling experiments. PL intensity of AIZS QDs sharply decreased at 150 °C ( T q ), meanwhile a broad peak at 2932 cm −1 ascribed to C–H unit was detected. With continuously increasing temperature to 300 °C, this vibration band became stronger correspondingly, and PL intensity became weaker and weaker, providing direct support that thermal quenching was caused by decomposition of organic ligands. As expected, T q of AIZS@SiO 2 nanoparticles was increased to 250 °C owing to the thermal shielding of silica. Different from heating treatment, corrosive liquid seriously damaged crystal structure of AIZS QDs. XRDs pattern of AIZS@SiO 2 nanoparticles also became irregular after a longer treatment time, alkaline molecules still contacted core through mesoporous. Based on these findings, micro-nano hierarchical porous surfaces were constructed to trap air pockets for isolating luminescent component from harsh environments. With the helpful of thermal insulting property of air and silver mirror reaction, PL intensity was nearly unchanged even the functional surfaces were kept at 300 °C for 2 h and immersed into the strong alkaline solution for 24 h. The highly stable hierarchical porous surfaces showed good potential application in anti-counterfeiting and information encryption fields. Overall, this work provided theoretical insights in quenching mechanism of QDs and design guidance for QD with excellent robustness. Indium tin oxide (ITO) is usually served as the transparent conductive electrode of Cu(In, Ga)(S, -Se) 2 (CIGSSe) solar cells. However, ITO is fabricated by sputtering method, which will increase the cost of CIGSSe solar cells and prevent its large-scale market applications in the future. Hence, it is particularly important to develop low-cost transparent conductive window layers to replace the traditional ITO. Silver nanowires (AgNWs) are considered to be the most promising alternative to ITO. Compared with sputtered ITO, AgNWs have the advantages of high transmittance, low cost, and easy fabrication. Nevertheless, the poor adhesion and stability of AgNWs can prevent the transportation of carriers of CIGSSe solar cells. Here, we select amorphous TiO x as an adjuvant to fabricate AgNWs/TiO x composite transparent conductive layer to substitute the traditional ITO. Under the assistance of TiO x matrix, not only the connection, adhesion, and stability of AgNWs are greatly enhanced, but also the surface roughness of AgNWs is also reduced. The influence of AgNWs concentration on the performance of CIGSSe solar cells is investigated. When the AgNWs concentration is 2.5 mg/mL, the transmittance and sheet resistance of AgNWs thin film are 93.35% and 93 Ω/sq, respectively, and the devices achieved the highest efficiency of 13.59%.

The Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) effect and the construction of Z-scheme heterojunctions are critical for enhancing photocatalytic rates. Herein, a composite material composed of a Z-scheme heterojunction structure, AgInS 2 /g-C 3 N 4 (AIS/GCN), was developed and further optimized through the modification of Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs). The SPR effect of Ag NPs significantly improved the electron transfer characteristics of GCN, leading to enhanced separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs. By leveraging the advantages of the Z-scheme heterojunction, the composite not only effectively enhanced charge carrier separation but also improved light absorption and increased the density of active catalytic sites. To evaluate the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B (RhB) and the photoreduction efficiency of Cr (VI) using the Ag/AIS/GCN nanocomposite, a systematic characterization analysis was conducted. The results demonstrated that the degradation rate and photoreduction efficiency of the Ag NPs-modified AIS/GCN Z-scheme heterojunction composite were 5.30 times and 7.22 times higher than those of pure GCN, the TOC removal rate of the sample reached 56.19%. The incorporation of Ag NPs and AIS significantly enhanced light energy utilization efficiency, increased the number of surface-active sites, and improved charge carrier transport rates. This study illustrates that the combination of the SPR effect and Z-scheme heterojunction construction markedly enhances the efficiency and stability of the photocatalyst, indicating the broad potential applications of this composite in dye purification and heavy metal removal. Lead-free double perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have garnered significant attention due to their ability to address the toxicity and instability issues associated with lead-based perovskite NCs. Herein, we have successfully synthesized a series of Cs2AgBiBr6 NCs with varying concentrations of In3+ alloying, achieved through a colloidal solution method. These NCs consistently exhibit a monodisperse, uniform cubic morphology. By meticulously adjusting the alloying concentration of In3+, we have significantly enhanced the luminescence performance of Cs2AgBiBr6 NCs, achieving a maximum photoluminescence quantum yield of 14.69% at the optimal In3+ alloying concentration. Simultaneously, the exciton lifetime was markedly extended 4.6 times, greatly enhancing carrier dynamics. Temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectroscopy analysis further confirms that postalloying with In3+, the NCs not only exhibit strong Coulombic forces and high thermal stability but also significantly reduce nonradiative transition processes. Moreover, density functional theory calculations reveal that In3+ alloying leads to a redistribution of charge density, profoundly affecting the electronic structure and subsequently enhancing the carrier mobility. Therefore, this study not only provides valuable insights into the role of In3+ alloying in enhancing the luminescence performance of double perovskite NCs but also opens up potential application prospects for optoelectronic devices in the future.
