The chemical absorption method using MEA has been one of the most effective CO2 capture technologies, but the problems of low process efficiency and poor economics limit its application. In this work, the rapid phase change absorbent composed of alcohol ether solvent and potassium amino acid salt (AaK) solution was investigated, and the effects of different AaKs and ethers on the phase change behavior, phase separation mechanism, and CO2 absorption performance of the absorbent were analyzed. The results showed that when the carbon chain of the linear AaK was longer, the solubility in water was larger, and the lower liquid phase (LP) volume, phase separation time, AaK enrichment in the LP, and CO2 molar loading were larger. When the alkyl group of the branched-chain AaK was larger, the solubility in water was smaller, and the gas–liquid mass transfer, enrichment effect, and absorption rate were smaller. When the ether bonds of ether solvent were greater, the solubility of organic salts and competition for water were stronger; thus, the LP volume was smaller. Moreover, the absorption rate and CO2 loading of AaK systems were affected by the spatial structure effect of amino and carboxyl groups and the viscosity effect of solvent before absorption.

Graphite anode suffers from great capacity loss and larger cell polarization under low-temperature conditions in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which are mainly caused by the high energy barrier for the Li+ desolvation process and sluggish Li+ transfer rate across the solid electrolyte interface (SEI). Regulating an electrolyte with an anion-dominated solvation structure could synchronously stabilize the interface and boost the reaction kinetics of the graphite anode. Herein, a highly ionic conductive electrolyte consisting of a fully methylated cyclic ether solvent of 2,2,4,4,5,5-hexamethyl-1,3-dioxolane (HMD) and fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) cosolvent was designed. The high electron-donating effect and steric hindrance of −(CH3)2 in HMD endow the HMD-based electrolyte with high ionic conductivity but lower coordination numbers with Li+, and an anion-dominated solvation structure was formed. Such configuration can accelerate the desolvation process and induce the forming of a LiF-rich SEI film on the anode, avoiding the solvent coembedding into graphite and enhancing the ion migration rate under low temperatures. The assembled Li||graphite cell with the tame electrolyte outperformed the conventional carbonates-based cell, showing 93.8% capacity retention after 227 cycles for the DF-based cell compared to 64.7% after 150 cycles. It also exhibited a prolonged cycle life for 200 rounds with 81% capacity retention under −20 °C. Therefore, this work offers a valuable thought for solvent design and provides approaches to electrolyte design for low-temperature LIBs.

The photoelectric characteristics of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) films significantly affect the power conversion efficiency and stability of Si/PEDOT:PSS hybrid solar cells. In this paper, we investigated PEDOT:PSS modification with alcohol ether solvents (dipropylene glycol methyl ether (DPM) and propylene glycol phenyl ether (PPH)). The reduction of PSS content and the transformation of the PEDOT chain from benzene to a quinone structure in PEDOT:PSS induced by doping with DPM or PPH are the reasons for the improved conductivity of PEDOT:PSS films. DPM and PPH doping improves the quality of silicon with the PEDOT:PSS heterojunction and silicon surface passivation, thereby reducing the surface recombination of charge carriers, which improves the photovoltaic performance of Si/PEDOT:PSS solar cells. Comparing the power conversion performance (PCE) and air stability of Si/PEDOT:PSS solar cells with DPM (13.24%), DPH (13.51%), ethylene glycol (EG, 13.07%), and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO, 12.62%), it is suggested that doping with DPM and DPH can replace DMSO and EG to enhance the performance of Si/PEDOT:PSS solar cells. The EG and DMSO solvents not only have a certain toxicity to the human body but also are not environmentally friendly. In comparison to DMSO and EG, DPM and DPH are more economical and environmentally friendly, helping to reduce the manufacturing cost of Si/PEDOT:PSS solar cells and making them more conducive to their commercial applications.
