In this work, a copolyimide (Co-PI) film with high transparency was prepared by the copolymerization of hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA), 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA), 2,2′-Bis(trifluoromethyl)benzidine (TFMB) and adamantane-1,3-diamine (DAA). The effects of DAA monomers on the optical, thermal, and mechanical properties of the co-PIs were discussed in detail. We found that the preparation of polyimide (PI) based on the combination of two dianhydrides and two diamines could obtain the co-PI film with excellent comprehensive performance due to the synergy between the -CF3 group, the aliphatic ring and the aromatic structure. Through the structure and composition optimization, the co-PI film with 1.30% DAA (Q3) has a Tg of 374oC, T5 higher than 530oC, T430 of 82% and the tensile strength higher than 145 MPa. These results indicate that the Co-PI films can be successfully utilized in the development of novel heat-resistant plastic substrates for the optoelectronic engineering applications.

Anticoagulant surface modification of blood-contacting materials has been shown to be effective in preventing thrombosis and reducing the dose of anticoagulant drugs that patients take. However, commercially available anticoagulant coatings, that is, both bioinert and bioactive coatings, are typically based on a single anticoagulation strategy. This puts the anticoagulation function of the coating at risk of failure during long-term use. Considering the several pathways of the human coagulation system, the synergy of multiple anticoagulation theories may provide separate, targeted effects at different stages of thrombosis. Based on this presumption, in this work, negatively charged poly(sodium p-styrenesulfonate-co-oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate) and positively charged poly(lysine-co-1-adamantan-1-ylmethyl methacrylate) were synthesized to construct matrix layers on the substrate by electrostatic layer-by-layer self-assembly (LBL). Amino-functionalized β-cyclodextrin (β-CD-PEI) was subsequently immobilized on the surface by host–guest interactions, and heparin was grafted. By adjusting the content of poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate) (POEGMA), the interactions between modified surfaces and plasma proteins/cells were regulated. This multistage anticoagulant surface exhibits inertness at the initial stage of implantation, resisting nonspecific protein adsorption (POEGMA). When coagulation reactions occur, heparin exerts its active anticoagulant function in a timely manner, blocking the pathway of thrombosis. If thrombus formation is inevitable, lysine can play a fibrinolytic role in dissolving fibrin clots. Finally, during implantation, endothelial cells continue to adhere and proliferate on the surface, forming an endothelial layer, which meets the blood compatibility requirements. This method provides a new approach to construct a multistage anticoagulant surface for blood-contacting materials.

Despite the fact that synthetic adhesives have achieved great progress, achieving robust dry/wet adhesion under harsh operating environments is still challenging. Herein, inspired from the extraordinary adhesion mechanism of nature mussel protein adhesive, the balanced design concept of co-adhesion and interfacial adhesion is proposed to prepare one kind of novel copolymer adhesive of [poly(dopamine methacrylamide-co-methoxethyl acrylate-co-adamantane-1-carboxylic acid 2-(2-methyl-acryloyloxy)-ethyl ester)] [p(DMA-co-MEA-co-AD)], named as super-robust adhesive (SRAD). The SRAD exhibits ultra-high interface bonding strengths in air (∼7.66 MPa) and underwater (∼2.78 MPa) against an iron substrate. Especially, a greatly tough and stable adhesion strength (∼2.11 MPa) can be achieved after immersing the bonded sample in water for half a year. Furthermore, the SRAD demonstrates surprising wet bonding robustness/tolerance even encountering harsh conditions such as fluid shearing, dynamic loading, and cyclic mechanical fretting. The great advantages of SRAD, such as strong interface bonding, stable wet adhesion underwater, and good mechanical tolerance, makes it demonstrate huge application potential in engineering sealants and underwater adhesion.
