The selective one-pot synthesis of lactic acid (LA) from cellulose, and further the raw biomass, on heterogeneous catalysts is the key point for the development of biorefinery technology. Herein, we reported an yttrium (Y) modified siliceous Beta zeolites catalyst via two-step post-synthesis for highly efficient conversion of cellulose to LA. Under condition of 220 °C and 2 MPa N 2 , the cellulose could be transformed to LA with a yield of 49.2 % within 30 min, and the substrate can be extended to various raw biomass. It was demonstrated that the dealumination and modification of Y can efficiently modulate the acidity on the surface of zeolite. The dehydration products HMF and other derivatives were suppressed, and the yield of LA was correlated in line with the acid amount, which were attributed to the increased Lewis acidity originated by Y incorporation. These results contribute to the development of the green and efficient synthesis of bio-chemicals.

Hexagonal borocarbonitride (h-BCN) have garnered significant attention for their unique optoelectronic properties in solar-to-fuel conversions. However, the efficiency of h-BCN in the field of photocatalytic CO 2 reduction is limited by high reaction energy barriers and serious charge recombination. Here, a Y-modified h-BCN were synthesized through an organic-inorganic hybrid precursor pyrolysis method. Both theoretical simulation and experimental analysis demonstrated that the Y-modified sample exhibits an inhomogeneous charge distribution that favours rapid charge transfer and can decrease the reaction barrier of the rate-control step. Further investigations indicated that adding Y changes the electronic structure of BCN, which leads to rapid charge transfer/separation and an increased lifespan for photoinduced electrons. As a result, 2.5%Y/BCN exhibited improved CO 2 photoreduction activity with a fuel yield of 50.35 μmol g −1 . Notably, this outstanding performance was achieved without the use of any cocatalyst or sacrificial agent. In the meanwhile, cycle test shows the photocatalyst's great stability. The findings provide a useful suggestions for BCN-based photocatalysts.

Greenhouse effect has become one of the serious issues in the human development. Greenhouse gases are mainly composed of methane and carbon dioxide. Dry methane reforming (DMR) is an excellent technology owing to the direct utilization of greenhouse gases. However, there are severe catalyst sintering and coke deposits in the process of DMR. Therefore, it is necessary to synthesize catalysts with fantastic properties. Here, a series of cobalt catalysts modified by different transition metals (Y, Gd, and Mn) were synthesized applying the impregnation method. The Y-modified catalyst shows excellent catalytic activity and anti-coking ability. Under the reaction condition of 800 °C, the catalyst exhibits not only the highest CH4 conversion (83%) but also stable CO2 conversion (94%) after 10 h of reaction. N2 physisorption, TG, H2-TPR, XPS, XRD and TEM were applied to research the crystal phase, microstructure and texture characteristics of the catalysts. The results show that the Mn-modified catalyst exhibited a negative influence for the DMR reaction although the catalyst shows a large specific surface area. Gd- and Y-modified catalysts exhibited superior interaction between the metal and carrier, which improves the stability of active metal Co during DMR. Simultaneously, the introduction of Y maintains more number of oxygen vacancies and improves the dispersion of the active metal. The study found that both the activity and coke resistance of the catalyst can be concurrently enhanced due to the addition of Y through promoting the dispersion of the metal and the activation of CO2. Most noteworthily, after a 50 h stability test, the CH4 and CO2 conversion on the Y-modified catalyst dropped from 91% and 95% to 83% and 94%, respectively.

Ni-rich single-crystalline layered cathodes have garnered significant attention due to their high energy density and thermal stability. However, they experience severe capacity degradation caused by lattice strain and interfacial side reactions during practical applications. In this study, an effective yttrium modification method is employed to stabilize the structure of Ni-rich single-crystalline LiNi0.83Mn0.05Co0.12O2 (SC-NMC83) to solve these issues. This innovative approach successfully immobilizes oxygen within the material, preventing crack formation while simultaneously broadening the diffusion path of Li+. The yttrium-modified sample (SC-NMC83-Y) exhibits a superior capacity retention compared to the SC-NMC83 sample, with values of 90% and 76.1% after 100 cycles, respectively. This work demonstrates the promising potential of a doping strategy for Ni-rich single-crystalline cathodes and paves a pathway for its practical implementation, such as all-solid-state batteries.
