MXenzymes, a promising class of catalytic therapeutic material, offer great potential for tumor treatment, but they encounter significant obstacles due to suboptimal catalytic efficiency and kinetics in the tumor microenvironment (TME). Herein, this study draws inspiration from the electronic structure of transition metal vanadium, proposing the leverage of TME specific-features to induce structural transformations in sheet-like vanadium carbide MXenzymes (TVMz). These transformations trigger cascading catalytic reactions that amplify oxidative stress, thereby significantly enhancing multimodal tumor therapy. Specifically, the engineered HTVMz, coated with hyaluronic acid, exhibits good stability and generates a thermal effect under NIR-II laser irradiation. The thermal effect, combined with TME characteristics, facilities a structural transformation into ultra-small vanadium oxide nanozymes (VO x ). The enlarged surface area of VO x substantially enhances ROS regeneration and amplifies oxidative stress, which promotes lysosomal permeability and induces endoplasmic reticulum stress. The high-valent vanadium in VO x interacts with intracellular glutathione, disrupting redox homeostasis and intensifying oxidative stress further. These amplifications accelerate tumor apoptosis, induce ferroptosis, and suppress HSP90 expression. Consequently, the heightened thermal sensitivity of HTVMz synergistically promotes tumor cell death via multimodal therapeutic pathways. This study presents an innovative strategy for tumor catalytic therapy by manipulating MXenzymes structures, advancing the field of catalytic therapy.

Layered vanadium-based materials are considered to be the most promising cathode materials for aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) due to their abundant valence changes and high theoretical capacity. However, low intrinsic conductivity, poor low temperature performance and generally poor cycle life hinder their further application. This study proposes a 3D conductive network by compositing vanadium-based materials with graphene to improve the conductivity for rapid electron transfer. Meanwhile, the interleaving of vanadium-based materials with the conductive network of graphene constructs a buffer layer, which can effectively mitigate the structural collapse caused by Zn 2+ insertion/extraction during the charge and discharge processes, and significantly increase the long cycle life of the battery. The H 2 V 3 O 8 /rGO conductive network buffer layer is directly synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method. The H 2 V 3 O 8 /rGO-100//Zn batteries show a specific capacity of up to 528.3 mAh/g at 0.1 A/g. Even at a high working current density of 20 A/g, the specific capacity is still 137.2 mAh/g, and it can remain 88.8 % after 12,000 cycles. Moreover, at the low temperature of −20 °C, the H 2 V 3 O 8 /rGO-100//Zn still maintain a high specific capacity of 346.6 mAh/g at 0.1 A/g, and its specific capacity can remain 86.2 % after 20,000 cycles at 10 A/g. Even at −30 °C, it can stably work for 3,000 cycles at 1 A/g with almost no capacity degradation, showing good low temperature adaptability. Therefore, the present work provides a novelty strategy of designing cathode materials for ZIBs with excellent performance.

An all-vanadium-based lithium–ion full battery is successfully assembled with the hierarchical micro–nano yolk–shell structure V2O5 and V2O3 as cathode and anode, which are obtained through a facile solvothermal method with heat treatment under different atmospheres. When used as the cathode of lithium–ion battery, the hierarchical micro–nano yolk–shell V2O5 demonstrated higher capacities than bulk V2O5, commercial LiFePO4, and LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cathodes at various current densities. The all-vanadium-based lithium–ion full battery shows good cycle performance at 0.1C and stable charge/discharge abilities at large current densities. The electrochemical performance of the full battery results from the low impedance and pseudocapacitance-dominated lithium storage mechanism derived from micro–nano yolk–shell structure.

Vanadium-based materials are fascinating potential cathodes for high energy density Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs), due to their high capacity arising from multi-electron redox chemistry. Most vanadium-based materials suffer from poor rate capability, however, owing to their low conductivity and large dimension. Here, we propose the application of V 2 C MXene (V 2 CT x ), a conductive 2D nanomaterial, for achieving high energy density ZIBs with superior rate capability. Through an initial charging activation, the valence of surface vanadium in V 2 CT x cathode is raised significantly from V 2+ /V 3+ to V 4+ /V 5+ , forming a nanoscale vanadium oxide (VO x ) coating that effectively undergoes multi-electron reactions, whereas the inner V-C-V 2D multi-layers of V 2 CT x are intentionally preserved, providing abundant nanochannels with intrinsic high conductivity. Owing to the synergistic effects between the outer high-valence VO x and inner conductive V-C-V, the activated V 2 CT x presents an ultrahigh rate performance, reaching 358 mAh g −1 at 30 A g −1 , together with remarkable energy and power density (318 Wh kg −1 /22.5 kW kg −1 ). The structural advantages of activated V 2 CT x are maintained after 2000 cycles, offering excellent stability with nearly 100% Coulombic efficiency. This work provides key insights into the design of high-performance cathode materials for advanced ZIBs.

Energy density, power density, as well as the cost of aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs), are largely determined by the cathode material. Among the various cathodic candidates, vanadium-based materials with various oxidation states of vanadium cations and open frameworks have emerged as highly promising options. In this work, a heterogeneous with hydrangea-like (NH 4 ) 2 V 4 O 9 /V 5 O 12 ·6H 2 O as cathode materials for AZIBs. The hydrogen bonds formed by NH 4 + of (NH 4 ) 2 V 4 O 9 , in conjunction with the lattice water in V 5 O 12 ·6H 2 O, sufficiently strengthen the cohesion of the layered structure and expand the interlayer space. As a result, accelerating the diffusion of Zn 2+ ultimately leads to an enhanced overall discharge capacity. Remarkably, the hydrangea-like (NH 4 ) 2 V 4 O 9 /V 5 O 12 ·6H 2 O electrode at a current density of 100 mA g −1 shows a high reversible capacity of 209 mAh g −1 after 150 cycles and higher rate capability (172 mAh g −1 at 500 mA g −1 ). The outstanding electrochemical performance can be attributed to the unique structure of the cathode material and accelerated diffusion coefficient of Zn 2+ .

Vanadium-based materials are expected to achieve high-rate capability with high energy density in Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs) due to the layered-structure and multi-electron redox mechanism. However, the high-rate charge/discharge capacity is usually restricted by limited charge storage active sites on material surface and poor electrode kinetics. Herein, homo-interfaces and built-in electric fields were constructed to boost the Zn 2+ diffusion and electron transmission kinetics of NaV 8 O 20 ·xH 2 O (NaVO) nanoflake cathodes, respectively, which cooperated to achieve high-rate charge/discharge capacity in ZIBs. Specifically, firstly, homo-interfacial NaVO nanoflakes were prepared, and then gradient N-doping was introduced from homo-interface to surface of NaVO due to the lower N-doping formation energies of interface than that of surface, which improved electrical conductivity and formed a build-in field to accelerate electron transmission; Moreover, there is a large difference between Zn 2+ concentration in homo-interfaces and surfaces of the N-doped NaVO as the homo-interfaces with lower zinc adsorption energy are more conducive to the adsorption and aggregation of Zn 2+ than that of the surface, which boost Zn 2+ diffusion; Furthermore, numerous micropores were created to shorten ion transport pathways. These structural advantages enabled ultra-fast Zn-storage kinetics and excellent cycling performance of NaV 8 O 20 ·xH 2 O in ZIBs, the reversible capacity can reach 417 mA h g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 , and as high as ∼110 mA h g −1 at 100 A g −1 with capacity retention of 68.4% after 50,000 cycles. Dynamic analysis verifie that high capacitive capacity contributes most to the excellent performance, which can be ascribed to the structural advantages described above. The findings of this study provide new insights for designing Zn-ion storage materials with high-rate capability and long life.

Aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) have gained extensive attention due to the numerous advantages of zinc, such as low redox potential, high abundance, low cost as well as high theoretical specific capacity. However, the development of AZIBs is still hampered due to the lack of suitable cathodes. In this work, the freestanding defective ammonium vanadate@MXene (d-NVO@MXene) hybrid film was synthesized by simple vacuum filtration strategy. Due to the presence of the hierarchical freestanding structure, outstanding MXene conductive networks and abundant oxygen vacancy (in the d-NVO nanoribbons), the d-NVO@MXene hybrid film can not only expose more active sites but also possess outstanding conductivity and kinetics of charge transfer/ion diffusion. When the d-NVO@MXene hybrid film was directly used as the cathode, it displayed a high specific capacity of 498 mAh/g at 0.5 A/g and superior cycling stability performance with near 100 % coulomb efficiency. Furthermore, the corresponding storage mechanism was elucidated by ex situ various characterizations. This work provides new ideas for the development of freestanding vanadium-based cathode materials for AZIBs.

K 3 V 3 (PO 4)4 (KVP), a novel cathode material for potassium-ion batteries (KIBs), is recognized for its stable crystal structure and robust cycling performance. Despite these attributes, it is hampered by poor electronic conductivity and limited rate capability. In this research, Fe 3+ has been substituted for a portion of V 3+ to modulate the electronic structure of K 3 V 3-x Fe x (PO 4 ) 4 /C, aimed at enhancing its electrochemical performance. Theoretical calculations expectedly show that Fe doping at the V site reduces the band gap energy from 2.674 eV to 1.92 eV, thereby improving electron transfer. Both physical and chemical analyses confirm the successful integration of Fe 3+ into the crystal structure and the adjustment of relevant lattice parameters. Additionally, Fe serves as an effective catalyst, enhancing the graphitization of the carbon coating. SEM demonstrates that Fe 3+ doping encourages the development of a porous structure, which not only promotes electrolyte penetration but also provides a buffer to the crystal framework during K + deintercalation. K 3 V 3-x Fe x (PO 4 ) 4 /C, when doped with Fe 3+ , shows superior discharge capacity and long-term cycling stability compared to KVP/C. Specifically, K 3 V 2.8 Fe 0.2 (PO 4 ) 4 /C, with an Fe 3+ doping level of x=0.2, exhibits minimal electrode polarization and outstanding rate performance. After 380 cycles at 400 mA·g −1 , it maintains a discharge capacity of 46 mAh·g −1 , significantly surpassing KVP/C. These findings offer valuable insights into the commercial synthesis of scalable, high-performance rechargeable KIBs cathode materials.

Captivated by their strong ion-storage capacities, vanadium (V)-based cathode materials have triggered plenty of active research. However, these materials still suffer from unstable lattice structures, always accompanied by inferior rate capabilities. Herein, with the introduction of bromine ions, the oriented growth was tailored to form smaller rod-like particles, while the resultant charge unbalance brought about the creation of oxygen defects, boosting the broadening of energy distribution with fast redox reactions. The as-targeted sample displayed a lithium ion storage capacity of 280 mA h g–1, which was still maintained at about 252 mA h g–1 after several cycles. As zinc-ion battery cathodes, a capacity of 247 mA h g–1 could be retained at 0.5 A g–1 after 100 cycles. Even at a high current density of 3.0 A g–1, the capacity was retained at about 207 mA h g–1 after 500 cycles. Supported by a series of advanced technologies, the enhanced redox activity of V ions was detected owing to the unbalance of charge from bromine doping. Moreover, a detailed kinetic analysis and in situ resistance measurements further demonstrated the enhancement of surface-controlling contributions and in-depth redox reactions. Given that, this work was anticipated to offer a significant perspective about rational surface-/interface-enhanced properties of advanced energy-storage materials.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) have become a focus due to their high safety, low cost, and environmental protection. Vanadium-based materials are commonly used as cathodes in AZIBs. As technology improves, more types of vanadium-based materials are successfully synthesized and applied. To find more suitable cathode materials, we first investigated the utility of V 1.11 S 2 spheres for AZIB cathodes, which were synthesized by a facile solvothermal method. Benefiting from the excellent morphology and stable chemical system, the electrode exhibits continuous capacity growth during the cycling process and maintains stability over a long period of time. In addition, it has an outstanding rate capability. Specifically, the capacity reaches 224.8 mAh g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 and increases from 39.1 to 51.4 mAh g −1 at 2 A g −1 after 2000 cycles. Such characteristics can be attributed to the continuous and slow activation of the electrode and the growth of the specific surface area due to the scattered nanosheets, which allows the electrolyte to fully penetrate into the material and expose more active sites. Meanwhile, the increased V 1.11 S 2 layer spacing due to the embedding of water molecules can provide a wide channel for ion transport. This work may provide new ideas for the synthesis and development of vanadium-based materials used in AZIBs.

Vanadium-based cathode materials have attracted great attention in aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). However, the inferior ion transport and cyclic stability due to the strong Coulomb interaction between Zn 2+ and the lattice limit their further application. In this work, CO 2 molecules are in situ embedded in the interlayer structure of NH 4 V 4 O 10 by decomposing excess H 2 C 2 O 4 ·2H 2 O in the main framework, obtaining an ion-molecule co-confining NH 4 V 4 O 10 for AZIB cathode material. The introduced CO 2 molecules expanded the interlayer spacing of NH 4 V 4 O 10 , broadened the diffusion channel of Zn 2+ , and stabilized the structure of NH 4 V 4 O 10 as the interlayer pillars together with NH 4 + ${\mathrm{NH}}_4^ + $ , which effectively improved the Zn 2+ diffusion kinetics and cycle stability of the electrode. In addition, the binding between NH 4 + ${\mathrm{NH}}_4^ + $ and the host framework is stabilized via hydrogen bonds with CO 2 molecules. NVO-CO 2 -0.8 exhibited excellent specific capacity (451.1 mAh g −1 at 2 A g −1 ), cycle stability (214.0 mAh g −1 at 10 A g −1 after 1000 cycles) and rate performance. This work provides new ideas and approaches for optimizing vanadium-based materials with high-performance AZIBs.

The VO 2 (B) cathode materials maintain high stability during the zinc ion embedding/removal process, making it a research hotspot in positive electrode materials for water-based zinc ion batteries . However, its poor ion diffusion kinetics and intrinsic semiconductor properties have become the main reasons limiting the enhancement of the specific capacity and rate performance. Herein, the function of Co-doping on the microstructure, morphological characteristics, transport characteristics and electrochemical performances of the Co x V 1- x O 2 (B) nanorods were comparatively investigated. The Co 0.05 V 0.95 O 2 (B) cathode has the highest specific capacity and unmatched cycle stability. The optimized electrochemical performance was mainly due to the synergistic optimization of grain distortion, grain size and oxygen vacancy inside the lattice. The electrochemical kinetics results show that the Co 0.05 V 0.95 O 2 (B) cathodes were capacitor and battery hybrid characteristics. The above conclusions provide a good idea and experimental verification for applying VO 2 (B) cathode in the water-based zinc ion batteries market.
