High stability trace NO2 detection of V-MOF based sensor at room temperature
The long-term stability of the metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) gas sensors is of great value in advancing their practical applications under complex environmental conditions (high humidity, high temperature, etc.). However, long-term stable and accurate gas detection by MOF sensors in an energy-efficient state remains a formidable challenge. In this work, the vanadium-based MOF MIL-47(V) is reported as a novel and efficient NO 2 sensing material, which exhibits intense response and trace detection with outstanding stability at room temperature (RT, 25 °C). The high specific surface area and abundant hollow channels of MIL-47(V) provide numerous active sites for the adsorption of NO 2 molecules. The high chemical stability and hydrophobicity enable the MIL-47(V) sensor to maintain long-term stability in the face of environmental disturbances. Furthermore, theoretical calculations validate the high reactivity of the V atoms and the hollow channels in MIL-47(V). The V sites demonstrate a strong adsorption energy of −0.87 eV to NO 2 , which enhances the interaction between the MIL-47(V) and NO 2 . The MIL-47(V) sensor shows outstanding NO 2 sensing properties at RT, with high sensitivity (response ≈ 2.89–10 ppm NO 2 ), trace detection limit (15 ppb), excellent long-term stability (response ≈ 2.11–3 ppm NO 2 , eight weeks) and good humidity resistance (response ≈ 1.21–1.14 to 0 %-80 % relative humidity, 100 ppb NO 2 ), which makes it remarkably attractive for ultrasensitive, accurate and reliable NO 2 detection at RT.
