Solid-state hydrogen storage materials with optimal binding energy are essential for hydrogen storage and transportation applications and pose long-standing challenges. Current technologies, including molecular physisorption materials (e.g., metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), activated carbons (ACs)) and atomic chemisorption materials (e.g., MgH 2 , LiBH 4 , NH 4 BH 4 ), fall short of meeting practical application requirements. Therefore, designing and constructing new solid-state hydrogen storage materials at the atomic level is critically important. In this study, the use of defect engineering is explored to modulate hydrogen adsorption sites on TiO 2 surfaces. The results demonstrate that low-coordinated titanium (Ti) atoms on TiO 2 can serve as effective hydrogen adsorption sites, storing hydrogen through molecular chemisorption with significantly enhanced adsorption energy compared to Ti atoms in high coordination states. Moreover, the adsorbed hydrogen remains in molecular form, facilitating easy desorption at room temperature, unlike titanium hydride, which requires high temperatures for desorption. This approach provides a promising pathway for developing efficient hydrogen storage materials by leveraging the unique properties of low-coordinated Ti atoms on TiO 2 surfaces.

Propane dehydrogenation (PDH) exhibits promising potential for propylene production. However, the primary challenge of its application is the development of environmentally benign, low-cost, and high-performance catalysts as alternatives to CrOx- or Pt-based catalysts. This paper describes the design of highly dispersed, around 2-atomic-layer-thick TiOx ultrathin nanosheet catalysts with a high formation rate of propylene (0.175 mol·gTi–1·h–1) and steady-state selectivity toward propylene close to 93% with a low deactivation rate constant (kd) (0.0126 h–1) and robust regeneration performance at 600 °C. A combined study of ex/in situ characterization elucidated tetracoordinated titanium atoms (Ti4c) surrounding oxygen vacancies (Ovac) as the more reactive sites, which effectively promote C–H bond activation and/or H2 desorption by altering the binding state of propane molecules during dehydrogenation and recombining with the H extracted from propane to form H2, leading to more enhanced catalytic activity. This work gives enlightenment to strategy for designing highly efficient oxide catalysts by constructing coordinately unsaturated metal centers in the ultrathin nanosheet structure.

Electrocatalytic N 2 reduction is regarded as an attractive alternative to the industrial Haber-Bosch process for mild NH 3 synthesis. However, its practical feasibility requires efficient electrocatalysts with high activity and selectivity . Herein, we first report using sputtered TiB 2 film to enable superb artificial N 2 reduction electrocatalysis . In 0.1 M HCl, such TiB 2 seizes a great NH 3 yield of 1.75 × 10 −10 mol s −1 cm −2 and a high Faradaic efficiency of 11.37% at −0.30 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode with excellent durability. Density functional theory calculations further evidence that the high activity and selectivity of TiB 2 arise from the positively charged Ti atomic plane, which facilitates the adsorption, activation, and hydrogenation of N 2 molecules while well suppresses the binding of H atoms.

The development of coatings with high thermal resistance and strong adhesion is desirable and challenging. Herein, we firstly reported a novel bismaleimide silicone (PMI-HSi) oligomer as well as the matching titanium-containing phthalate curing agent (PAEs). Subsequently, PMI-HSi and PAEs are semi-cured by a de-ethanolization reaction in humid ambient atmosphere. Resultant prepolymer molecular skeletons comprise acylimine bonds yielding strong hydrogen bonds , benzene rings, and titanium atoms, which facilitates the stability of the prepared coatings in high-temperature conditions. Ultimately, the final coating was successfully obtained via thermal initiated radical polymerization . The DTG results indicated that the residual carbon content of PMI-HSi@PAEs50% is as high as 63.9 %. And the T d5% , T d30% and T HRI of PMI-HSi@PAEs50% were separately increased by 142.2 %, 29.2 % and 47.9 % compared with the control group. It is worth noting that PMI-HSi@PAEs50% can remain stable at a high temperature up to 600 °C, and no color changes and cracks appeared on the coating surface . All these results indicate that the as-prepared coatings exhibited excellent high temperature stability. In addition, due to the introduction of PAEs, the adhesion of PMI-HSi@PAEs50% reaches the highest grade of 0 and the hardness reaches 5H. Meanwhile, the reinforcement mechanisms were elucidated in detail. Overall, the as-prepared coating possesses high temperature resistance, strong adhesion, and great hardness, which possesses enormous potential for applications in the field of high-temperature protection.
