Coordinated regulation for α-Al2O3 and mullite structures in the alumina-mullite fiber based on the different adding form of Fe element

Lingjiao Zhan,Chaozhong Wu,Fuqin Zhang,Juan Wang,Haotian Liu,Yutong Chen,Shuwei Yao,Yunzhu Ma,Wensheng Liu

The coordinated regulation for α-Al 2 O 3 and mullite structures in the alumina-mullite duplex fiber poses a challenging yet crucial task in achieving a fiber with exceptional high-temperature properties. In this study, Fe element was added into the alumina-mullite fibers in the form of iron sol and ferric nitrate solution, respectively, with the aim of obtaining a fiber consisting of fine mullite grains embedded with nano α-Al 2 O 3 grains. The results revealed that the addition of Fe element significantly enhances the crystallization process of mullite in alumina-mullite fibers. Specifically, adding iron sol resulted in the reduce of α-Al 2 O 3 formation temperature to 1300 °C, while introducing Ferric nitrate solution promoted the formation of mullite phase. Simultaneous introduction of 1.3 wt% iron sol and 1.3 wt% Ferric nitrate solution contributed to achieve alumina-mullite fiber with tensile strength of 2.06 GPa. In addition, the influence mechanism of Fe source on the phase transformation and microstructures of alumina-mullite fiber were discussed.

Synthesis of coal slime-based catalytic material for peroxymonosulfate activation through molten salt thermal treatment

Chunquan Li,Xinlin Wang,Kefu Ma,Jiayu Liu,Fang Yuan,Qizhou Wang,Zhiming Sun

Coal slime-based peroxymonosulfate (PMS) catalytic materials were synthesized utilizing coal slime (CS) as raw material under the N 2 atmosphere in this study. Raw and calcined coal slime were systematically characterized concerning morphologies, pore structures , chemical bonds, phase constituents, and defect density . Results show that after being calcinated with FeCl 2 ∙4H 2 O at 750 °C, the specific surface area increased by nearly 21.0 times higher than that of CS. The addition of FeCl 2 ∙4H 2 O has certain effect on the chemical bonds of calcined coal slime, i.e. the Fe elements can be fixed by the silicon aluminum skeleton with sekaninaite (Fe 2 Al 4 Si 5 O 18 ) and aluminum iron silicon (Al 0.5 Fe 3 Si 0.5 , above 650 °C) generation, and the I D /I G values increase to 2.96 for CS-FeCl 2 -750. In addition, the degradation percentage of phenol by using CS-FeCl 2 can achieve 100% in 25 min under optimized conditions. Furthermore, 1 O 2 plays a major role in phenol degradation, followed by • OH and SO 4 •− in the CS-FeCl 2 /PMS system from the quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance results. Overall, the novel CS-FeCl 2 material displays good application prospects in the field of effluent treatment , with efficient utilization of carbonaceous and silicon aluminum skeleton in coal slime.

Porous TiO2 with large surface area is an efficient catalyst carrier for the recovery of wastewater containing an ultrahigh concentration of dye

Yumeng Zhou,Lijing Zhang,Shengyang Tao

The preparation of porous TiO2 as a carrier for the Fenton reaction is reported. Porous TiO2 is an excellent carrier to load with elemental iron due to the large specific surface area and negative surface charge. Porous TiO2 was synthesized in the form of a hierarchically porous silica monolith that was used as a microreactor, and a block copolymer served as a template for mesoporous forms. The crystalline TiO2 growing in confined spaces maintained the porous structure and high crystallinity. The surface area of our synthesized porous TiO2 can reach 205 m2 g−1. The zeta potential of the TiO2 was as low as −36.5 mV (pH 7). Elemental iron was highly and uniformly dispersed over the channel of the porous TiO2 via an impregnation method and served as the catalyst for the Fenton reaction. In the Fenton reaction, the synthesized catalyst performed strong catalytic activity during the degradation of wastewater containing an ultrahigh concentration of aqueous dye, at 400 ppm. The aqueous dye solution was degraded over 95% in 30 min, and the catalyst could be reused many times.

Preparation and Characterization of Prussian Blue Coated Polymeric Nanoparticles via Dispersion Polymerization Template

Wu Lin,Pang Tao,Wu Laxia,Guan Yebin,Yin Liwei,Li Yiguo

Herein, we report a novel method for the synthesis of Prussian blue/PB containing polymeric hybrid nanoparticles. This method employs poly(4-vinylpyridine)/P4VP stabilized polystyrene/PS nanoparticles as a template to define the position of Prussian blue product. In the first step, the templates of P4VP-stabilized polystyrene polymer nanoparticle were prepared by dispersion polymerization of styrene in methanol/water in the presence of macro-P4VP chain transfer agents. With the addition of sodium pentacyanoammineferroate(II) hydrate/[Fe(CN) 5 NH 3 ] 3− into dispersion, pyridyl moieties in P4VP in polymeric nanoparticles could react with [Fe(CN) 5 NH 3 ] 3− through a ligand exchange reaction. Subsequent metal coordination polymerization of Fe 3+ with ferrate confined within the surface of the nanoparticles led to the generation of monodispersed PB coated polymeric nanoparticles. The nanoparticles were characterized and confirmed by various modern techniques such as FT-IR, UV–Vis, TGA, XPS, TEM, SEM and AFM. The UV–Vis, FT-IR, TGA and XPS studies suggested Prussian blue was successfully coordinated with P4VP-PS polymers template according to our experimental design. The morphology studies indicated that spherical nanoparticles were obtained. In particular, the EDX mapping results clearly show that the iron element is evenly distributed on the nanoparticles. In addition, two parameters, including the amount of initiator and the amount of iron in the system, have important effects on the particle size and distribution. This experimental system we designed has great potential for the synthesis of metal containing polymeric nanoparticles with other compositions and morphologies, which offers many possibilities worthy of further exploration.

Fe single-atom adsorbents based on C, O co-doped hexagonal boron nitride for enhanced adsorption desulfurization

Hongping Li,Tianxiao Zhu,Yuan Zhang,Jie Yin,Jinrui Zhang,Linhua Zhu,Hua Wei,Huaming Li

Adsorbents with high adsorption capacity and selectivity have long been the pursuit of researchers in the field of adsorptive desulfurization. In this study, a novel single-atom adsorbent comprised of iron (Fe) integrated into C, O co-doped hexagonal boron nitride (Fe-BNCO) has been successfully synthesized. This unique material demonstrates outstanding adsorption capabilities, boasting an adsorption capacity of 49.7 mg S/g and excellent selectivity for adsorptive desulfurization. Notably, this adsorption capacity is 48.6 % higher than that of pure BNCO. The incorporation of the Fe element into boron nitride materials induces a reduction in crystallinity and an increase in specific surface area, resulting in a higher number of available adsorption sites. Combining experimental analysis with theoretical calculations, we propose that the exceptional adsorption performance of Fe-BNCO can be attributed to the formation of S-Fe coordination interaction, while maintaining the existing π-π interactions. This study advances our understanding of adsorbents with high adsorption capacity and selectivity, providing valuable insights for the field of adsorptive desulfurization.
