The ever-increasing demand for light, thin, flexible, and small-sized smart electronics has developed a market for planar micro energy storage devices with high performance, flexibility, and robust integration, that is not mature yet. Here, a high-resolution patterned platinum (Pt) layer that can be designed/shaped as required is prepared by printing sacrificial patterns (SPs) using a commercial laser printer. MnO 2 -based micro-supercapacitors (MSCs) are successfully prepared on commercial Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) via electrodeposition . Because of the large surface area and large number of active sites of the nano-branch-shaped MnO 2 , the MnO 2 /Pt MSCs exhibit excellent volumetric specific capacitance (615.14F cm −3 ) as well as an ultrahigh volumetric power density (11.677 Wh cm −3 ) and energy density (54.679 mWh cm −3 ). In addition, the MnO 2 /Pt MSCs possess excellent flexibility and integration, with capacitance retention when bend to 180° and can be designed to connect in series or parallel for delivering the desired output voltage and capacitance. Furthermore, planar Zn-MnO 2 batteries are successfully prepared through step-by-step electrodeposition. Simultaneously, a flexible energy conversion storage system is constructed by connecting solar cells and electrical appliances with the fabricated MSCs, demonstrating that this straightforward strategy is extremely promising for future application in microcircuits and flexible wearable smart textiles.

In this study, a novel low-Pt core-shell catalyst is successfully prepared by depositing ultrathin Pt layer on the carbon nanotubes supported titanium nitride nanoparticles (TiN@Pt/CNTs) via a facile pulse electrochemical deposition approach. The catalyst is characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), High-angle annular dark field (HAADF) and energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS) elemental mapping, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electrochemical measurements. The results confirm the core-shell structure of the prepared TiN@Pt/CNTs catalyst. More importantly, the catalyst exhibits superb mass activity and durability for the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) than that of the commercial JM Pt/C catalyst. Later experiments data demonstrate that the activity and stability of the catalyst can be further enhanced via copper doping, which results from the modified electronic structure of the Pt atoms and the synergistic effects of the core-shell structure.

This study investigates the structural stability of small Pd@Pt core@shell octahedral nanoparticles (NPs) and their shell thickness dependent catalytic performance for p-chloronitrobenzene hydrogenation with H2. The 6–8 nm Pd@Pt octahedral NPs are prepared by a sequential reduction method, and the characterization results confirm that Pd@Pt octahedral NPs with one to four atomic Pt layers can be controllably synthesized. The Pd@Pt octahedral NPs with one atomic Pt layer demonstrate excellent structural stability with the maintenance of core–shell structures as well as high catalytic stability during cycle to cycle catalytic p-chloronitrobenzene hydrogenation reactions. The alumina-supported Pd@Pt octahedral NPs illustrate a superior catalytic performance relative to individual Pt and Pd and their physical mixtures. Theoretical calculations by density functional theory suggest that the unexpected structural stability for Pd@Pt octahedral NPs with thin Pt shells and their corresponding catalytic stability during hydrogenation reactions can be ascribed to the strong binding between Pt surfaces and reactants/products in catalytic reactions. The enhanced catalytic performance of Pd@Pt octahedral NPs possibly originates from the core–shell interaction, which adjusts the electronic state of surface Pt atoms to be suitable for selective p-chloronitrobenzene hydrogenation.

The use of micromotors-based delivery systems for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) treatment has recently gained considerable interest. The current research primarily focuses on how to design micromotors with more elaborate geometries and actuation mechanisms to improve IBD therapeutic effects. Herein, a novel type of reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive hemispheroid adhesive micromotors (HMPs) as efficient delivery systems is developed to treat IBD. Such HMPs are fabricated through microfluidic electrospray technique, with a platinum (Pt) layer and dopamine (DOPA) coating layer covered on its top surface and baseplate, respectively. The Pt on HMPs′ top surface can produce oxygen from hydrogen peroxide, thereby providing a propulsion force for them to move spontaneously upon exposure to ROS environment. Moreover, the DOPA layer on the baseplate contributed to the outstanding adhesive capacity to tissues. Therefore, by incorporating anti-inflammatory dexamethasone (DXM) into HMPs, the resultant micromotor systems are imparted with superior antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacities, which also exhibits desirable therapeutic effect upon treating IBD by alleviating inflammatory response, restoring epithelial barrier functions, and mitigating IBD-associated symptoms. The treatment mechanism of DXM-loaded HMPs mainly involves alleviating oxidative stress, reducing proinflammatory cytokines secretion, and protecting intestinal barrier. Collectively, these results illustrate HMPs-based micromotor systems are valuable for gastrointestinal disease treatment.
