Room-temperature H2 gasochromic behaviors of highly sensitive hexagonal phase WO3/Pt nanorods for eye-readable hydrogen leakage detection

Ping Yu,Lin Wang,Huan Liu,Anfeng Yu,Xinmei Liu,Zhe Yang

Developing reliable and cost-effective optical hydrogen sensors detecting hydrogen leakage at room temperature is of paramount importance. It requires that hydrogen sensors show a rapid and significant color change in low concentration H 2 /air mixtures, which remains challenging. Herein, we demonstrate an eye-readable hydrogen sensor based on Pt decorated hexagonal WO 3 (W 0 /300/Pt). It is evidenced W 0 /300/Pt exhibits excellent gasochromic properties, with reflectivity differences of 78% and 73% and fast coloring times of 3.10   s and 2.64   s in 10% H₂/Ar and 10% H₂/air. Moreover, W 0 /300/Pt shows an obvious color change from light gray to dark blue finally with ΔE value of 71, and exhibits a detect limitation less than 0.1% H 2 in 1   s. The gasochromic mechanism related to crystalline phase structure was unveiled via in situ characterization techniques. This study also presents novel evidence that bolsters the “localized water molecules” model and provides theoretical insights for the advancement of highly sensitive WO 3 gasochromic materials.

Core-shell Ag nanowires@Pt nanorods catalyst: Synthesis and application in direct methanol fuel cells

Baomin Luo,Qiang Zhao,Yezhen Zhang,Lijuan Wang,Fenfen Li,Haiquan Xie,Carlos R. Cabrera

A unique core-shell structured catalyst, composed of Pt nanorod shells and Ag nanowires cores, is synthesized. The as-prepared Pt nanorods are ca. 2–4 nm in diameter and ca. 26–46 nm in length. The as-prepared catalyst shows outstanding activity and stability for methanol oxidation reaction compared to commercial Pt black catalyst.

Polydopamine coated Au-Pt nanorods: Enhanced photothermal properties and efficient reactive oxygen scavengers

Qianqian Duan,Jialin Wang,Boye Zhang,Xiaoyuan Wang,Juanjuan Xue,Wendong Zhang,Shengbo Sang

As an emerging cancer treatment strategy, photothermal therapy (PTT) is precise, controllable, minimally invasive, low cost and less toxic side effects, thus photothermal transduction agents have been extensively investigated in recent years. Noble metal nanomaterials with unique localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effects are particularly suitable as photothermal transduction agent, but the currently developed precious noble metal nano photothermal transduction agents face serious problems such as complex synthesis process, poor photothermal performance and high biotoxicity. Moreover, the large amount of reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced during PTT treatment could cause irreversible damage to the healthy tissues surrounding the tumor. In this work, we deposited platinum (Pt) on the tips of gold nanorods (AuNRs) to form dumbbell-shaped Au-Pt bimetallic nanorods (AuPtNRs), and functionalized AuPtNRs with biocompatible polydopamine (PDA) to obtain [email protected] With 808 nm laser irradiation, the prepared [email protected] exhibited excellent photothermal stability, and its photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE) reached 81.78%, which was significantly higher than that of AuNRs (52.32%) and AuPtNRs (78.76%). With low cytotoxicity, [email protected] decreased cell viability from 91.12% to 39.36% after PTT on cancer cells in vitro, while significantly reducing intracellular ROS levels generated by heat stress. Therefore, the excellent photothermal properties, high cancer cell killing and ROS scavenging activity of [email protected] in PTT could be an ideal candidate for improving therapeutic efficacy while reducing the risk of toxic side effects due to heat stress-induced ROS formation.

Laser-induced formation of Au/Pt nanorods with peroxidase mimicking and SERS enhancement properties for application to the colorimetric determination of H2O2

Sun Ying,Wang Ruixue,Liu Xuan,Shan Guiye,Chen Yanwei,Tong Ti,Liu Yichun

Platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) were uniformly grown on the surface of gold nanorods (AuNRs) by a laser irradiation procedure. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed that the PtNPs are uniformly grown on the surface of the AuNRs. The formation of PtNPs on the AuNRs leads to a red-shift of the absorption maximum from 734 nm to 766 nm. In addition, the efficiency of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is increased, but the photothermal conversion efficiency is decreased compared to pure AuNRs. The result indicates that electron transfer occurs between gold and platinum. The peroxidase mimicking effect of PtNPs, AuNRs and Au/Pt NRs by catalyzing the oxidation of colorless 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to blue oxidized 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethylbenzidine (oxTMB; a quinone) in the presence of H 2 O 2 . The catalytic activity of Au/Pt NRs is higher than that of sole AuNRs or PtNPs by factors of 4.2 and 2.1, respectively. Thus, Au/Pt NRs have been used for the detection of peroxide and the limit of detection is 0.04 μM. This work provides an approach to integrate the peroxidase mimicking effect with SERS enhancement for potential application in detection. A schematic diagram for the laser-induced growth of Au/Pt NRs and the colorimetric determination of hydrogen peroxide concentration with their peroxidase mimicking properties. The limit of detection is 0.04 μM based on the use of Au/Pt NRs as a catalyst.

Integrated Nanorod-Mediated PD-L1 Downregulation in Combination with Oxidative-Stress Immunogene Therapy against Cancer

Shuaiying Wu,Jianzhong Zhang,Jie Pan,Shuang Bai,Ziying Wang,Yulun Chen,Dazhuang Xu,Yibo An,Chao Liu,Chengchao Chu,Qixuan Dai,Lai Jiang,Zhixiang Lu,Gang Liu

It is an engaging program for tumor treatment that rationalizes the specific microenvironments, activation of suppressed immune system (immune resistance/escape reversion), and synergistic target therapy. Herein, a biomimetic nanoplatform that combines oxidative stress with genetic immunotherapy to strengthen the therapeutic efficacy is developed. Ru-TePt nanorods, small interfering RNA (PD-L1 siRNA), and biomimetic cellular membrane vesicles with the targeting ability to design a multifunctional Ru-TePt@siRNA-MVs system are rationally integrated. Notably, the Fenton-like activity significantly enhances Ru-TePt nanorods sonosensitization, thus provoking stronger oxidative stress to kill cells directly. Meanwhile, immunogenic cell death is triggered to secrete numerous cytokines and activate T cells. The effective catalase characteristics of Ru-TePt enable the in situ oxygen-producing pump to improve tumor oxygen level and coordinately strengthen the therapeutic effect of SDT followed. More importantly, anti-PD-L1-siRNA mediated immune checkpoint silence of the PD-L1 gene creates an environment conducive to activating cytotoxic T lymphocytes, synergistic with boosted reactive oxygen species-triggered antitumor immune response. The experimental results in vitro and in vivo reveal that the Ru-TePt@siRNA-MVs nanosystems can effectively activate the oxidative stress-triggered immune response and inhibit PD-1/PD-L1 axis-mediated immune resistance. Consequently, this orchestrated treatment paradigm provides valuable insights for developing potential oxidative stress and genetic immunotherapy.
